Yes. Open the Flock-camera map on a desktop browser, wait for the camera dots to appear, set the area with zoom and pan, then either print the page to a PDF or capture the visible map with your operating system’s screenshot tool. The browser-print method preserves a printable page; a PNG or JPG is usually better for slides, documents and messages.
Choose the right export method
Your choice depends on what you need to do with the result:

Both approaches save only the current visible extent. Zoom and pan before exporting, and record the map page and access date because the underlying community data can change.

Prepare the Flock-camera map
- Open the Flock-camera map in a desktop browser.
- Wait until the map finishes loading and the red camera dots appear. The map says cameras load automatically for the area being viewed.
- Zoom in or out and drag the map until the complete area you need is visible. Leave enough margin around the outermost pins so they are not cut off.
- Click a red dot if you need to inspect its available details before saving. Details are shown only where the map has them.
- Close or collapse side panels, cookie notices and floating controls. A larger map area produces a cleaner print preview and a more useful screenshot.
Do not interpret an empty spot as proof that no camera exists there. The Flock Camera Locations page describes its data as an independent, volunteer-built map based on observations added to OpenStreetMap; coverage may be incomplete or out of date.

Save the map as a PDF in a browser
Standard browser print workflow
- With the map positioned, open your browser menu and choose Print. You can also use the standard print shortcut for your operating system.
- In the printer or destination list, choose Save as PDF. On Windows, Microsoft Print to PDF provides the equivalent output.
- Set Landscape orientation when the map is wider than it is tall. Portrait can work for a narrow area or a vertical route.
- Enable Background graphics (the wording varies by browser) if the preview omits the basemap, shaded roads or colored camera pins.
- Check every page in the preview. Make sure the outer pins, labels and map attribution are not clipped.
- Click Save or Print, choose a folder, and use a descriptive filename such as
flock-camera-map-place-2026-10-16.pdf.
Browser print engines differ. One may place the map on a page with browser-generated margins, while another may scale it to fit. Use the preview rather than assuming the on-screen layout will be reproduced exactly.
If you are printing a MapQuest route page
MapQuest’s documented route-print flow is separate from exporting a third-party camera layer. For a route that includes a map, MapQuest Customer Support (August 31, 2015) gives this sequence:
- Create the route.
- Choose View Route Directions.
- Click Print.
- Select Directions & Map.
- Click the green browser Print button and choose your PDF destination.
That support article documents route printing; it does not promise a one-click export for an independent Flock-camera layer. For the camera map itself, use the browser print workflow above and verify the preview.
Fix a PDF that lost pins or the map background
The preview is blank or only text appears
- Return to the map and wait for all camera dots and tiles to finish loading.
- Collapse overlays and sidebars that may be covering the map.
- Open print settings again and turn on Background graphics.
- If the map still does not render, reduce browser zoom slightly, wait, and retry. A very large interactive canvas can exceed the printable area.
The map is clipped at an edge
- Switch to landscape orientation.
- Reduce browser zoom before opening Print, then inspect the new preview.
- Pan the map so the important pins are farther from the viewport edge.
- Use the browser’s scale setting only after confirming that labels remain readable.
Some camera dots are missing
First distinguish a loading problem from a data limitation. Reload after the map has had time to fetch its tiles, then check a wider zoom level. If a location remains empty, the map’s own description is the relevant qualification: it is compiled from community reports and may not contain every camera or may contain records that are no longer current. Save the access date with your PDF rather than presenting it as a complete official inventory.

Save the visible map as a PNG or JPG
Windows
- Set the extent and zoom as described above.
- Start the built-in screen-capture tool and choose a rectangular selection.
- Drag around the map, including the pins and any necessary legend, while excluding browser tabs, the address bar and floating controls.
- Open the capture in the tool’s editor and crop or annotate only if necessary.
- Save as PNG for sharp labels or JPG for a smaller file.
macOS
- Position the map.
- Use the system screenshot shortcut for a selected portion of the screen.
- Drag the selection around the map and release to capture it.
- Open the resulting image if you need to crop out a stray control, then export as PNG or JPG.
Linux and other desktop systems
Use the desktop environment’s built-in rectangular screenshot command, select the map rectangle, and save the resulting file. If your environment captures the entire screen first, open the image in an editor, crop the browser chrome, and export to PNG or JPG.
A public GIS help guide describes the same general process: use Print Screen, paste into an image editor, crop to the map and save as JPG or PNG. The important distinction is that a screenshot records what is visible; it does not export hidden map features or a larger geographic extent.
Make the image readable and defensible
Use PNG when information matters
PNG normally keeps small labels, road lines and red camera dots cleaner than JPG. Choose JPG when the image must be lightweight for email or a chat service and slight compression is acceptable.
Keep attribution and context
Do not crop away the map attribution, legend or a scale indicator if your audience needs to interpret the image. Add a caption or a text note containing the map page, the geographic area, the access date and the fact that the data is community reported. This prevents a static image from being mistaken for a live, official Flock Safety publication.

Capture at a useful size
Before taking a screenshot, maximize the browser window and hide unnecessary toolbars. If labels are too small, zoom in and make several overlapping captures instead of shrinking one very wide view. For a single-page PDF, landscape orientation usually gives a better balance between geographic coverage and legibility.
What the Flock-camera map represents
The Flock Camera Locations page describes a live interactive map of Flock Safety cameras and other automated license plate readers across the United States. It attributes the camera data to OpenStreetMap contributors and warns that coverage may be incomplete. The page’s 2026 figures report more than 150,000 cameras, reports in all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., and about 77% of entries explicitly tagged as Flock Safety devices. Those are live counts and can change; if you quote one in a report, include the date you accessed the page.
The map’s FAQ says Flock Safety does not publish a public map of its cameras. Instead, volunteers document cameras they see from public roads and add them to OpenStreetMap. A Flock camera is described as an automated license plate reader that photographs the rear of passing vehicles and records plate, vehicle-detail, time and place information. Saving a map therefore preserves a snapshot of an independent data set, not a guarantee that every camera is shown or still installed.

The API returns a page without pins
Interactive maps may need time to load tiles and markers. Request a wait for network idle or a relevant selector, use a longer delay, and make sure the target URL is the map page rather than a route that redirects elsewhere. Inspect the response headers to see the page verdict and billing result.
The result contains a consent dialog or chat bubble

The file is too large or the map is cut off
Set a deliberate viewport, use a device preset or retina scale only when needed, and capture the map element rather than the entire page. For PDFs, choose the paper size, margins, orientation and page range explicitly.
A request failed or was blocked
Check the URL, authentication and custom headers, then review the page-verdict and billing headers. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts and failed loads are not billed as clean shots, so retry after correcting the page setup rather than treating a failed response as a successful map record.
