Short answer: A vehicle-powered outlet or inverter can run a compatible RYOBI charger only when the charger, inverter, power source and vehicle are all rated for that arrangement. A RYOBI automotive power source that accepts a ONE+ battery is not automatically a tool-battery charger. The RYi120A is specified for small electronics, while removable tool packs must be charged with a compatible RYOBI charger and according to the exact battery and charger manuals.

The safest road setup is therefore a chain of verified components: identify the battery platform, use the charger approved for that pack, confirm the inverter’s output for its particular input source, and keep the battery and charger within the temperature limits stated for that model.

Powering a device is not the same as charging a tool battery

Road-power products create several easy-to-miss distinctions. An adapter may provide an AC outlet or USB ports for a phone, laptop, light or other small electronic device without containing the electronics needed to charge a removable RYOBI tool pack. Conversely, a vehicle inverter may provide enough AC power for a charger but still be unsuitable because of its input connection, wiring, waveform, duty rating or the vehicle manufacturer’s restrictions.

RYOBI describes the RYi120A as a 120-watt automotive power source. It can draw power from a 12-volt vehicle power port or a compatible 18V ONE+ battery and provides one 120V outlet plus two USB-A outlets. Its stated use is powering or charging small electronic devices. That description does not establish that it charges removable RYOBI tool batteries.

The RYi8030A is a different product: an automotive power inverter that can use an 18V ONE+ battery, a 12V vehicle power port or a 12V car battery. Its available output changes with the input source, so the headline maximum is not available from every connection. Neither product should be described as a tool-battery charger unless the current product manual explicitly says so.

Identify the battery platform before choosing equipment

Start with the model label on the battery and charger, not with the tool’s color or the shape of the connector. The evidence here concerns U.S. 18V ONE+ products. It does not establish compatibility with RYOBI 40V, USB Lithium, older or newer charger generations, or international versions.

Check the battery label

  • Record the exact battery model and voltage family.
  • Confirm whether it is an 18V ONE+ lithium-ion pack or another RYOBI platform.
  • Look for damage, swelling, cracked housing, bent contacts or a loose label. Do not put a damaged pack in a charger or inverter system.

Check the charger label

  • Match the charger to the battery family and model instructions.
  • Note the charger’s required input voltage, frequency and wattage.
  • Use the charger’s own manual to determine whether it is approved for the particular pack; a connector that fits is not proof of compatibility.

When the battery, charger or power source is from a different voltage family, stop and obtain the applicable manual before connecting anything.

RYi120A 120W automotive power source 12V vehicle power port or 18V ONE+ battery 120W; one 120V outlet and two USB-A outlets; intended for small electronic devices Useful for electronics. Its product description does not say it charges removable RYOBI tool packs.
RYi8030A automotive power inverter 18V ONE+ battery, 12V vehicle power port or 12V car battery Manufacturer-listed search-result details distinguish up to 120W from a car power port, up to 300W from an 18V pack and up to 800W from a car battery Choose the rating for the actual input connection, not the 800W headline. Verify the current manual before relying on these figures.
PCG002 18V ONE+ charger 120V, 60Hz AC input; the product page identifies a 60W input Charges compatible 18V ONE+ lithium-ion batteries and has a temperature indicator for packs that are too hot or too cold It needs a suitable 120V AC source and a compatible ONE+ pack. The cited specifications do not approve any particular vehicle outlet or inverter arrangement.

The table separates documented specifications from assumptions. A 120V receptacle on an inverter tells you the nominal voltage at the outlet; it does not by itself prove that a particular charger, vehicle circuit or battery is approved for use.

Use the RYi120A for small electronics, not as an assumed tool charger

The RYi120A is the straightforward choice when the goal is to power a small electronic device from a vehicle or from a ONE+ battery. Its stated 120W capacity applies to the product as specified by RYOBI; the vehicle outlet, connected battery and any attached load still have to remain within their own ratings.

Before connecting a load

  1. Confirm that the device is a small electronic load appropriate for the outlet or USB-A ports.
  2. Check the device’s input requirement and compare it with the RYi120A outlet or USB specification.
  3. If using the vehicle port, confirm in the vehicle manual that the port and its fuse are suitable for the intended load.
  4. If using a ONE+ battery, install only a compatible 18V ONE+ pack and secure the power source so it cannot fall or short against metal objects.
  5. Connect one device at a time initially and watch for an overload indication, unusual heat or a shutdown.

Do not plug a removable-battery charger into the RYi120A merely because the product has a 120V outlet. The manufacturer description supports small-electronics use, not a general claim that it charges RYOBI tool packs.

Understand the RYi8030A’s source-dependent output

The RYi8030A can be fed three different ways, and the documented output changes accordingly:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Input connection Manufacturer-listed maximum in the supplied product details Important qualification
12V vehicle power port Up to 120W Use the vehicle port’s own fuse and rating as the limiting factor; do not apply the 300W or 800W figures to this connection.
18V ONE+ battery Up to 300W The pack, inverter and connected device must all be compatible. A larger output number does not make the inverter a tool-battery charger.
12V car battery Up to 800W This is a different connection from a dashboard outlet. Follow the inverter and vehicle battery instructions exactly; verify current documentation before installation or use.

These figures are manufacturer-listed details surfaced in product information and should be checked against the current RYi8030A manual. They are not a promise that every load can run continuously at the maximum. The input source, cable arrangement, protection devices and vehicle documentation determine what is actually permissible.

If you want to run a charger from the inverter

First determine the charger’s AC input requirement. The PCG002 page identifies 120V, 60Hz input and 60W input power. Then compare that requirement with the RYi8030A rating for the specific input source you will use. A numerical comparison is only a preliminary check; the product manuals must also permit the arrangement, and the vehicle must permit the connection.

Do not connect an inverter directly to vehicle-battery terminals unless the inverter instructions specify that connection and explain the required cables, protection and procedure. A dashboard 12V outlet and a direct 12V battery connection are not interchangeable.

How to charge an 18V ONE+ pack on the road

The following procedure keeps the roles of the components separate. It does not declare any universal vehicle-and-inverter combination safe; that determination belongs to the exact manuals.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Confirm the platform. Read the battery and charger model labels. Continue only if the charger is specified for that battery family.
  2. Read the charger input specification. For PCG002, the documented input is 120V, 60Hz and 60W. Use the specification printed on your own charger if it differs.
  3. Select a documented AC source. Determine whether your inverter is being powered from a 12V vehicle outlet, an 18V ONE+ pack or a 12V car battery. Use only the output rating assigned to that input.
  4. Check both manuals. The charger manual and inverter manual must allow the proposed use, and the vehicle manual must allow the outlet or battery connection. If any manual is silent or contradictory, do not proceed.
  5. Place the equipment safely. Keep the inverter and charger dry, stable and ventilated as their manuals require. Route cables where they cannot be crushed, pulled across hot surfaces or caught by moving parts.
  6. Connect the power source to the inverter. Use the specified connector and polarity. Do not substitute improvised cables or adapters.
  7. Connect the charger to the inverter’s AC outlet. Leave the charger switched off if its design includes a switch until the inverter is stable.
  8. Insert the battery into the compatible charger. The charger’s indicator should behave as described in its manual. A temperature indication means the pack is outside the charger’s permitted charging range, not that the battery should be forced to charge.
  9. Monitor the first cycle. Stop for an unexpected alarm, repeated shutdown, excessive heat, odor, sparking or damaged insulation. Do not leave an improvised road setup unattended.
  10. Shut down in reverse order. Remove the battery when charging is complete, disconnect the charger, turn off the inverter and then disconnect the vehicle or ONE+ input as directed by the manuals.

The 60W charger input is not the same thing as a guaranteed 60W continuous draw from the vehicle. Inverter losses and startup behavior vary, which is why the manuals and source-specific ratings matter.

Keep the pack and charger within the specified temperature range

One RYOBI ONE+ operator manual in the cited material instructs users to avoid extreme heat and cold and states: “The charger and battery pack should be placed in a location where the temperature is more than 50°F but less than 100°F.” It also directs the user to let a hot battery pack cool for approximately 30 minutes before recharging.

That is model-specific guidance, not a universal temperature rule for every RYOBI battery platform or charger generation. Use the exact manual for your pack. In practical road use, do not charge a pack that has been sitting in a freezing vehicle or in direct sun until the manual’s permitted range is restored. The PCG002 charger’s temperature indicator is designed to signal when a compatible pack is too hot or too cold to charge; treat that indication as a reason to pause, not to bypass the charger.

Road-use checklist

  • Battery voltage family and model match the charger.
  • Charger input voltage, frequency and wattage are known.
  • Inverter output is checked for the actual input source.
  • Vehicle outlet, fuse, battery connection and cables comply with the vehicle and inverter manuals.
  • No damaged battery, charger, cord, plug or connector is in use.
  • Equipment is protected from water, loose metal objects and excessive heat.
  • The battery and charger are within the temperature range stated for that model.
  • The inverter is not being treated as a charger unless its manual explicitly provides that function.
  • The setup is monitored for abnormal heat, odor, noise, alarms or repeated shutdowns.

Common mistakes and what to do instead

Mistake: treating every 120V outlet as interchangeable

A nominal 120V outlet can be supplied by different inverter designs with different limits and protections. Check the inverter’s source-specific rating and the charger’s input requirements; do not rely on the receptacle label alone.

Mistake: using the 800W figure from the RYi8030A on a dashboard outlet

The documented 800W figure applies to the 12V car-battery input in the product details. The same details list up to 120W from a 12V car power port and up to 300W from an 18V ONE+ pack. Use the figure for the connection you actually make.

Mistake: assuming a ONE+ input means a product charges ONE+ packs

The RYi120A and RYi8030A can use an 18V ONE+ battery as a power source, but that does not establish that either product performs the controlled charging function of a ONE+ battery charger.

Mistake: bypassing a temperature warning

Allow the pack to return to the temperature range in its manual. For the cited operator manual, a hot pack should cool for about 30 minutes before recharging. Never defeat a charger’s temperature protection.

Mistake: mixing platforms

Do not infer that an 18V ONE+ charger works with a 40V or USB Lithium pack, or that a U.S. product is approved for a non-U.S. electrical system. Check the exact model documentation.

What is and is not established for different vehicles and regions

The documented products and instructions center on U.S. 18V ONE+ equipment. They do not establish a single safe wiring method for every car, truck, recreational vehicle or fleet electrical system. Vehicle outlet ratings, battery access, grounding, fusing and inverter installation requirements differ by vehicle. The same caution applies outside the United States, where mains voltage, frequency, plugs and product versions can differ.

For a roadside setup, the authoritative combination is the model label, the current product page, the operator manual for the battery and charger, the inverter manual and the vehicle manual. If those documents do not clearly cover the proposed connection, use a manufacturer-approved charging solution rather than experimenting with adapters or direct wiring.

Bottom line

Use the RYi120A as a 120W source for small electronics, not as an assumed RYOBI tool-battery charger. Treat the RYi8030A’s 120W, 300W and 800W figures as dependent on whether it is fed by a vehicle outlet, an 18V ONE+ pack or a 12V car battery. To charge a removable pack, use the compatible charger—such as the PCG002 for supported 18V ONE+ lithium-ion batteries—and proceed only when the charger, inverter, power source and vehicle manuals agree. Keep the pack within its specified temperature range and stop whenever the equipment shows a fault or abnormal heat.
