AnyPS5 can make some decrypted PS5 games launch on a 64-bit Windows or Linux PC, but it is an experimental relinking project—not a universal PS5 emulator. It converts a game’s executable for the host platform and supplies replacement implementations of console system libraries. Whether you reach a menu or sustained gameplay depends on the individual game, build, graphics driver, and the system functions that game uses.
You need an authorized, decrypted dump of the game: its main ELF executable and the accompanying sce_module/ directory. AnyPS5 cannot open an encrypted disc or store download, and it does not provide games, firmware, keys, or a dumping method.
What AnyPS5 does—and what it does not do
AnyPS5 rewrites, or relinks, a PS5 game’s executable so it can run against host implementations of PlayStation system libraries. The project also rebuilds parts of the console graphics and system-function interface for Windows and Linux. This is different from the usual emulator workflow: you are not loading an encrypted console image into a finished virtual PS5, and a successful conversion does not prove that the game will be playable.

The project documentation describes its workflow as supported steps rather than a guarantee for any particular title. Games can stop at conversion, fail before a window appears, reach a title screen, render incorrectly, stall during loading, or progress into gameplay with serious defects. Treat every game report as evidence for one title, one platform, and one tested build—not as a promise for other configurations.

Check these requirements before downloading anything
Use a current game report first
Open the project’s live compatibility index and find your game before spending time on conversion. Record the reported operating system, status, tested build, and milestone. An Unlisted game has no report in that index; it is not a declaration that the game is incompatible.
Reports can be based on the public release, a self-built revision, a patched build, or a fork. Those distinctions matter. A result achieved with a private patch may not be reproducible with the current release package.
PC and graphics requirements
- A 64-bit Windows or Linux installation.
- A graphics card and driver supporting Vulkan 1.1.
- Enough system memory and virtual memory for the title and conversion process. A separate requirements page has suggested 16 GB of RAM or more and warned that Windows RAM plus page file may need to cover a reservation of up to 13.8 GB. Those figures can change, so verify the current official guidance rather than treating them as a guarantee.
- Storage for the decrypted game dump, generated executable, converted modules, shader cache, and logs.
Vulkan support alone does not supply missing game functions. A card can meet the API requirement while a particular title still fails because its system calls, shaders, rendering path, or media features are not implemented.

You must have a game you are allowed to use and a decrypted dump containing:
- the game’s main executable, normally a plain ELF file; and
- the game’s
sce_module/directory and its contents.
AnyPS5 does not decrypt files directly from a disc or store download. It does not ship Sony firmware, encryption keys, games, or a dumping utility. Dumping and circumvention rules differ by country; the project’s own legal explanation is not legal advice. Use only material you are authorized to possess and run.

Download only the real project files
The setup documentation identifies the project’s GitHub releases as the official download source and warns that look-alike repositories, fake installers, and packages bundling games, firmware, or keys exist. Verify the repository owner, release assets, and checksums or signatures when the project supplies them. Do not run an installer that claims to include a PS5 game or Sony system files.
Release information is volatile. The documentation updated on 11 October 2026 referred to release v0.1.1, dated 28 September 2026, while noting that many newer game reports used current self-built code. Check the release page at the time you install rather than pinning your setup to that older number.

1. Read the title’s report and choose a realistic goal
Write down the exact combination reported for your title: Windows or Linux, public release or custom build, and the observed milestone. “Playable” is reserved for explicit upstream gameplay confirmation on the recorded platform. “Testing” means a milestone was reached without a concrete blocker being the current main conclusion. “Issues” records a reported obstacle. A title-screen screenshot is not equivalent to sustained gameplay.
2. Get the relinker and replacement libraries
Download the relinker and the replacement PRX or system-library package for your target operating system from the project’s actual release assets. Keep the files from one compatible build together. Mixing a relinker from one revision with libraries or a game report from another can create failures that look like game incompatibility.
3. Put the executable and modules together
Create a working directory containing the game’s main ELF and its sce_module/ folder. Preserve the game’s relative paths and filenames. Do not rename an encrypted file to make it look like an ELF; the relinker needs a genuinely decrypted executable.

4. Run the relinker for your host platform
Launch the relinker from a terminal so that errors remain visible. When producing a Windows executable, select the Windows output option. Without that flag, the relinker emits a Linux ELF even if you give the output a filename ending in .exe. On Linux, leave the output as an ELF and later mark it executable.
Use the command syntax and option names shipped with your downloaded build; they can change between revisions. If the tool reports a missing module, unsupported import, or invalid ELF, stop and correct the input rather than continuing with a partially generated file.
5. Build the generated directory layout
After conversion, arrange the guest modules under the generated app0/ layout expected by the relinked executable. Copy the game’s remaining resources—assets, data files, and other content—into the corresponding locations under that layout.
Place AnyPS5’s replacement libraries in libs/. Do not put the original PS5 modules in libs/; that directory is for the host replacements supplied by AnyPS5. Keep a backup of the untouched dump so you can rebuild cleanly after changing builds.
6. Start the converted program
On Windows, run the generated executable from PowerShell or launch it normally from its working directory. Starting it from PowerShell is preferable during first tests because the terminal retains log output. On Linux, make the generated ELF executable, start it from a terminal, and watch the messages for missing libraries, import failures, Vulkan errors, or crashes.

Use the working directory that contains the expected app0/ and libs/ folders. Launching the file from another directory can make valid resources appear to be missing.
7. Allow time for shader preparation
The first launch can take longer while shaders are translated and cached. The first launch after an AnyPS5 or graphics-driver update can repeat that work. A black screen during this preparation may be normal, but it is not proof that the process is healthy: leave the terminal visible and check whether the log is progressing or reporting an actual error.
How to interpret compatibility evidence
The compatibility index is a curated set of title-specific tests. Compare entries using all of the following dimensions rather than the status word alone:

Status terms in the index
- Playable: explicit upstream confirmation of gameplay for the recorded platform. It does not mean every PC configuration works.
- Testing: a reported milestone without a concrete blocker being the current main conclusion. It is an active experiment, not a promise of completion.
- Issues: a known obstacle has been reported.
- Unlisted: no entry was found in the index. Compatibility is unknown.
At the time covered by the documentation, Dreaming Sarah was listed as Playable on Windows. Other entries showed a mixture of gameplay reports, title screens, first frames, rendering defects, stalls, and crashes. Those examples demonstrate the range of experimental progress; they do not predict results for an untested game. The FAQ also distinguished one title verified in the upstream table from additional community reports obtained under testing conditions. Keep official table entries, community observations, patched runs, and menu-only results separate when judging evidence.

The setup guide documents an import audit that classifies imports as implemented, stubbed, absent, or game-owned. Run or inspect that audit before assuming your hardware is at fault. An absent import can explain a failure before the game creates a window; a stubbed import signals that the call exists but may not behave as the title expects.

The audit is a diagnostic aid, not a compatibility certificate. It cannot establish that every system function, shader, audio path, or gameplay loop will work. If the audit identifies an unsupported function, look for a title-specific report or a newer compatible build instead of copying random libraries from another project.
Controls: controller optional, keyboard and mouse supported
AnyPS5 supports SDL-recognized gamepads, and the guides document configurable keyboard and mouse controls. A controller is therefore a convenience, not a prerequisite. It cannot add missing system functions or repair graphics support, so changing input devices will not solve a conversion or rendering failure.
Start with the default mapping, confirm that the game receives input at its first menu, and then edit the documented keyboard or mouse bindings if needed. Record your mapping changes separately from the generated files so an update does not erase them.

Troubleshooting common outcomes
The relinker rejects the input
- Confirm that the main file is a decrypted ELF, not an encrypted disc or store package.
- Check that
sce_module/is present and located beside the executable as expected. - Use the relinker and replacement-library package from the same compatible build.
- Re-copy the dump from an untouched backup if files were renamed or partially converted.
A Windows file will not start
- Rebuild with the Windows output option; a Linux ELF can still have an
.exesuffix but cannot run as a Windows PE executable. - Launch from PowerShell in the directory containing
app0/andlibs/so you can read the error. - Verify Vulkan 1.1 support and update the graphics driver through the hardware vendor’s normal channel.
- Check that the replacement libraries, not original PS5 modules, are in
libs/.
Linux reports permission or library errors
- Mark the generated ELF executable and run it from a terminal.
- Keep the expected directory layout beside the executable.
- Read the first missing-library or import error; later messages may only be consequences.
The screen stays black
- Allow extra time on the first launch or after an update for shader translation and caching.
- Watch the log for continued shader work versus a genuine crash or missing Vulkan feature.
- Compare your build and operating system with the title’s report; a menu result on another platform does not establish support for yours.
The game reaches a menu but fails in play
This is a compatibility boundary, not necessarily a bad installation. Menus may exercise only a small subset of imports and shaders. Check the report for the exact milestone, inspect the import audit, and avoid describing the title as playable unless the upstream report explicitly confirms gameplay on the same platform and build.
Legal, safety, and download boundaries
The project describes AnyPS5 as intended for interoperability, research, and preservation. It says the code contains no Sony code, firmware, keys, or games and is intended for games the user owns and dumped personally. Laws governing dumping and circumvention vary by country, so confirm the rules that apply where you live. These statements describe the project’s position; they are not a universal legal determination.
Never download a package advertised as a complete “PS5-on-PC” bundle containing games, firmware, or keys. Such packages are outside the documented workflow and carry both legal and malware risks. Use the actual project release channel and keep your own dump separate from tools obtained online.
What to expect from AnyPS5 today
AnyPS5 is worth trying when your title has a recent, reproducible report for your operating system and you are comfortable reading logs and rebuilding files. It is a poor fit if you need a one-click library in which every PS5 game works, if you only have encrypted retail or store files, or if you expect a controller to overcome unsupported console functions.
Recheck the live compatibility index, release page, supported platforms, and hardware guidance immediately before setup. Compatibility reports, build revisions, and implementation coverage can change quickly; the result you obtain is tied to the game, build, operating system, drivers, and hardware you actually use.
