To run a local AI agent on an NVIDIA RTX Spark PC, you need three cooperating pieces: a local model runtime that answers inference requests, an agent application such as OpenClaw or Hermes Agent, and a permission policy that limits what the agent can read, execute, and reach over the network. Install and update those components for the exact Windows 11 on ARM system you own, point the agent at the runtime’s local endpoint, then test both an allowed task and a deliberately blocked task.

RTX Spark is a platform name, not one fixed computer. NVIDIA announced RTX Spark-powered Windows laptops and compact desktops from ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft Surface, and MSI, with Acer and GIGABYTE systems to follow. Memory, ports, firmware, drivers, and shipping status can differ by OEM. The instructions below therefore separate the parts that are common to Windows from the parts that must be confirmed on your particular PC.

What you are actually setting up

A local agent is not the same thing as a local language model. The model produces text or tool-call decisions; the agent application decides when to invoke the model and, if you permit it, can read files, run commands, call APIs, or operate other software. Keeping both on one computer can reduce dependence on a cloud service, but it does not make an agent harmless. A poorly scoped agent can still expose local data or execute malicious instructions.

The RTX Spark platform combines a Blackwell RTX GPU and Grace CPU in a Windows 11 on ARM PC design. NVIDIA lists up to 128 GB of unified memory, 6,144 CUDA cores, a 20-core Grace CPU connected through NVLink-C2C, and up to 1 petaflop of AI compute. Those are NVIDIA’s announced maximum or platform figures, not independent measurements and not specifications guaranteed for every partner system.

  • AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
  • OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
  • A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis

The three layers

  • Inference runtime: a service that loads a model and exposes an endpoint the agent can call. The endpoint may use an Ollama-compatible or OpenAI-compatible API, depending on the runtime.
  • Agent: software such as OpenClaw or Hermes Agent that turns your request into a plan, asks the model for decisions, and invokes tools you have enabled.
  • Policy and containment: controls that define which directories, commands, applications, and network destinations are available. NVIDIA describes OpenShell and Windows security primitives as policy and containment components in this ecosystem.

For a single-computer setup, you do not need NVIDIA PAIR. PAIR is an optional local-network proxy and routing layer for distributing independent inference requests among eligible computers.

Check the exact RTX Spark PC before installing anything

Identify the OEM model and memory

Open Settings > System > About and record the manufacturer, model, processor, installed RAM, and Windows edition. Also record the exact unified-memory amount shown by the OEM documentation or firmware. “Up to 128 GB” describes the platform ceiling; it does not tell you how much memory a particular laptop or compact desktop has.

Check the OEM support page for that model’s Windows 11 on ARM drivers, firmware updates, GPU package, and recovery procedure. Do not assume that a driver or installer for a similarly named x86 PC will work on an ARM system. Apply Windows updates from Settings > Windows Update, restart, and install the OEM-recommended firmware before loading models.

Confirm that the product is RTX Spark, not DGX Spark

RTX Spark and DGX Spark are different products. RTX Spark is the Windows 11 on ARM, OEM-PC route covered here. DGX Spark uses a Linux-based DGX OS workflow with its own first-boot and NemoClaw instructions. A DGX guide can contain commands, package names, and assumptions that do not apply to a Windows RTX Spark computer. If a page says “DGX Spark,” treat it as a separate procedure unless it explicitly states that the step is Windows-compatible.

Verify availability and peripherals

NVIDIA’s October 2026 arrival statement names partner systems, but it is not a verified inventory list. Before purchasing or configuring a machine, confirm the live product page for the exact model: memory, storage, display outputs, USB and network ports, wireless hardware, power adapter, Windows edition, and current driver support. Those details affect whether you can keep a model, agent dashboard, and development tools running together.

Choose the model and agent path

Select an inference runtime

Choose a runtime that supports the RTX Spark software stack and can expose an endpoint on Windows. The endpoint format matters more than the product name: your agent must support the runtime’s API, or you must place a compatible proxy between them. NVIDIA PAIR can expose Ollama-compatible and OpenAI-compatible proxy endpoints, but adding PAIR to a one-PC setup creates another service to configure and secure.

Install the current Windows/ARM build recommended by the runtime’s documentation. No single universal installer, model name, command, context limit, or quantization works on every RTX Spark configuration, so do not copy DGX Spark commands or assume that a model will fit simply because the platform advertises 128 GB as a maximum. Check the runtime’s release notes for supported Windows builds, GPU backends, model formats, and memory requirements.

Select an agent

NVIDIA and Microsoft identify OpenClaw and Hermes Agent as choices in the Windows agent ecosystem. Their release channels, tool sets, and configuration screens can change. Download the current Windows instructions for the specific agent version you intend to use, and confirm that it supports your selected runtime endpoint. Some OpenClaw material describes native Windows and WSL options; follow the branch that matches your installation rather than mixing Linux and Windows commands.

Decide whether you need WSL

Native Windows is the simplest starting point when the agent and runtime both provide Windows builds. WSL can be useful when a required component is distributed primarily for Linux, but it introduces a second environment, separate file paths, and additional network-boundary decisions. If you use WSL, document whether the model service listens only inside the Linux environment, on the Windows host, or on the local network. Do not bind a service to all interfaces merely to make a connection work.

Step-by-step: connect a local model to an agent

1. Prepare a clean Windows account and workspace

  1. Sign in with a Windows account that has only the privileges you need for setup. Keep day-to-day agent work separate from an administrator account.
  2. Create a dedicated working folder for models, agent configuration, logs, and test files. Avoid pointing an agent at your entire user profile or a drive containing passwords, browser profiles, SSH keys, or personal documents.
  3. Enable Windows updates and the OEM driver package, then restart before installing the runtime. A reboot ensures that a newly installed GPU driver is actually loaded.

2. Install and start the inference runtime

  1. Use the runtime’s current Windows instructions for your exact architecture. If it offers separate ARM64 and x64 packages, choose the package documented for the system and any compatibility layer it requires.
  2. Install one small, known-compatible model first. The goal is to prove the endpoint works, not to maximize model size. Confirm in the runtime’s console or dashboard that the model loaded without an out-of-memory, unsupported-kernel, or driver error.
  3. Keep the service bound to localhost or the Windows host address unless another computer genuinely needs access. Record the endpoint address, port, model identifier, and whether the API is Ollama-compatible or OpenAI-compatible.
  4. Send a harmless test prompt from the runtime’s own interface or documented client. Check that a complete response returns and that the log shows the expected model rather than a cloud fallback.

There is no single RTX Spark command that can be published safely for every OEM and software release. Runtime installers, service names, model identifiers, and API ports are version-specific; use the current command shown by the runtime’s own documentation.

3. Install the agent

  1. Install OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, or another supported agent using its current Windows instructions. If the installer offers a choice between native Windows and WSL, select the environment in which your runtime endpoint is reachable.
  2. Open the agent’s provider or model settings. Choose the provider type that matches the runtime endpoint: Ollama-compatible, OpenAI-compatible, or the agent’s native connector.
  3. Enter the local base URL, model identifier, and any required local authentication token. A token used only on the same machine still belongs in a protected credential store rather than in a shared text file.
  4. Disable cloud providers or remote fallback if your requirement is that prompts remain on the computer. A local model setting does not prove that an agent will never contact a remote service; inspect provider, telemetry, update, and tool settings.
  5. Save the configuration and run the agent’s connection test. The expected result is a response from the model you loaded, with no DNS or internet request required for inference.

4. Run one safe agent task

Start with a task that cannot damage data, such as asking the agent to create a new text file in the dedicated workspace containing a short checklist. Watch the agent’s plan and tool calls. Confirm that the file appears where expected and that the model name in the run details matches your local runtime.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not begin with email, shell administration, credential files, production repositories, or a directory containing irreplaceable data. A successful chat response is not evidence that every tool integration is correctly isolated.

5. Test a denied action

Before granting broader access, attempt a controlled action that your policy should reject—for example, reading a file outside the workspace or executing a command you have not allowed. The agent should explain that the action is blocked, and the policy or Windows security log should show the denial. If the action succeeds, stop and tighten the policy before continuing.

Set boundaries before enabling tools

Files and directories

Grant access to the smallest directory set that supports the task. Use a separate workspace for generated files, and make sensitive directories unavailable rather than relying on the model to ignore them. Review inherited Windows permissions and any WSL mount that could expose the Windows file system to a Linux-side agent.

Command execution

Shell access is a high-risk capability. Prefer an allowlist of specific commands and arguments, run with a non-administrator account, and require confirmation for destructive operations. Block commands that alter security settings, install software, delete recursively, or exfiltrate files unless you have a narrowly defined, supervised use case.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Network access

Keep the model and agent on loopback when possible. If another computer must connect, allow only the required private-network address and port through Windows Firewall. Do not expose an agent dashboard or API directly to the public internet. A local-network service is still reachable by other devices on that network if its firewall and authentication are weak.

OpenShell and Windows security primitives

NVIDIA presents OpenShell and Microsoft security primitives as ways to apply policy and containment around agents. Treat them as controls that need configuration and verification, not as a guarantee. Read the effective policy, inspect what it permits, and test both an allowed and a blocked operation. NVIDIA quoted Vincent Koc, chief architect at the OpenClaw Foundation, saying that running OpenShell and Microsoft security primitives on RTX Spark can enable a fully integrated stack for private, personal agents on the device. That is an ecosystem statement, not an independent security assessment.

Protect logs and credentials

Agent logs can contain prompts, file contents, command output, and tokens. Store them in a restricted directory, rotate or delete them according to your retention needs, and avoid uploading diagnostic bundles that include private data. Use separate credentials for local testing and production services, and revoke a token immediately if it appears in a log or generated file.

Optional: use NVIDIA PAIR for several local computers

PAIR is useful when one computer cannot efficiently serve every request or when you want independent requests routed among eligible local systems. It is not required to run an agent and model on one RTX Spark PC.

What PAIR changes

  • Single-PC path: the agent sends requests directly to the runtime on the RTX Spark computer. This has the fewest moving parts and the clearest failure boundary.
  • PAIR path: the agent sends requests to a PAIR endpoint, which can route independent requests to eligible computers on the local network. Each paired computer needs a compatible model source and engine.

NVIDIA describes Ollama-compatible and OpenAI-compatible proxy endpoints for PAIR. When the application, model source, engine, and paired computers are all local, NVIDIA says prompts and responses remain on the local network. That condition matters: a remote model provider, telemetry service, update checker, or misconfigured endpoint can still send data outside the network.

When PAIR is worth the complexity

  • Use direct local inference when you are learning the stack, debugging a model, or running one interactive workload.
  • Consider PAIR when you have multiple eligible computers, independent requests that can run in parallel, and a clear plan for authentication and firewall rules between them.
  • Avoid adding PAIR solely to solve an unknown endpoint problem. First prove that the runtime and agent work together on one machine.

What the announced RTX Spark figures mean for an agent

Figure How to interpret it
Up to 128 GB unified memory NVIDIA’s announced platform maximum. The OEM configuration may provide less; verify the exact system.
Up to 1 petaflop AI compute NVIDIA’s announced maximum figure, not an independent benchmark for every PC.
6,144 CUDA cores NVIDIA’s stated count for the Blackwell RTX GPU in the RTX Spark superchip.
20-core Grace CPU NVIDIA’s stated CPU configuration, connected to the GPU through NVLink-C2C.

These figures can indicate why local inference is the platform’s intended use, but they do not tell you which model will fit, how much memory Windows and the agent consume, or how quickly a particular quantization will respond. Measure those properties on the exact OEM configuration and software versions rather than importing numbers from DGX Spark or another system.

Troubleshoot the common failure points

The agent cannot connect to the model

  • Confirm that the runtime service is running and that the endpoint address and port match its current status page.
  • Check whether the agent is running in native Windows while the runtime is inside WSL, or the reverse. Use the network address documented for that arrangement instead of assuming that localhost refers to the same environment.
  • Verify that the provider type matches the endpoint’s API. An OpenAI-compatible endpoint will not necessarily accept an Ollama-specific path, and vice versa.
  • Inspect Windows Firewall and the runtime log. Permit only the required private or loopback connection.

The model fails to load or Windows reports insufficient memory

  • Stop other model servers and GPU-heavy applications.
  • Try a smaller or more aggressively quantized model supported by the runtime.
  • Check the installed unified-memory amount; the platform maximum is not the capacity of every OEM PC.
  • Review the runtime’s release notes for ARM64 support, GPU backend requirements, and known driver issues before changing system settings.

The agent performs an action it should not

  • Disable the affected tool immediately and preserve the relevant log.
  • Remove broad directory, shell, or network permissions and replace them with a narrow allowlist.
  • Rotate any credential visible in prompts, logs, command output, or generated files.
  • Repeat the denied-action test before restoring the agent to normal use.

Responses are unexpectedly remote

Inspect the agent’s provider list, fallback order, telemetry options, and update behavior. A local endpoint can coexist with a cloud fallback. Disable remote providers when privacy requires on-device inference, and use firewall rules or network monitoring to verify the resulting behavior.

Operate and update the setup safely

Keep a written inventory of the OEM model, Windows build, GPU and firmware versions, runtime release, model identifier, agent release, endpoint address, and effective policy. Recheck that inventory after every major update. Agent APIs, model loaders, OpenShell policies, PAIR behavior, and supported Windows versions can change.

Back up configuration without backing up secrets in plain text. Test updates first with the harmless file-creation task and the blocked-action task. If an update changes endpoint paths or permissions, treat that as a configuration change and review the firewall and policy rather than working around the error by exposing the service more broadly.

A successful RTX Spark installation is one in which the exact Windows PC is identified, the runtime returns a known local model response, the selected agent uses that endpoint without an unapproved fallback, and policy tests demonstrate that files, commands, and network services outside the intended scope remain inaccessible.
