Start in Settings > Device health & support for a general health check and the tests your Pixel supports. For repair-oriented checks, open the Phone app, tap the dial pad, enter *#*#7287#*#*, and follow the prompts. These are separate tools, and their availability varies by model; some checks also have a US-only limit.
Where to find Pixel device health and diagnostics
On a Pixel 6 or later, including Pixel Fold, open Settings > Device health & support. The page shows an overall device status, feature summaries such as battery health and phone temperature, and links to available diagnostic checks and support options. You can also scroll through the page or search Settings for “diagnostics,” “battery,” “charging,” or “touch.” Google documents this hub for Pixel 6 and later; a missing menu or test can reflect model or software availability rather than a fault. Google’s Device health & support guide has the current overview.
Which tests are available on which Pixels?
| Feature | Availability stated by Google | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Device health & support and most diagnostics | Pixel 6 and later, including Fold | Settings > Device health & support |
| Touch diagnostics | Pixel 9 and later | Settings > Device health & support |
| Calls, mobile data, and Wi-Fi diagnostics | Pixel 11 series in the US | Settings > Device health & support |
| Pixel Repair Diagnostics app | Pixel 3 and later phones and Pixel Tablets | Phone app dial pad; tablets use a separate computer-assisted process |
| Bluetooth diagnostics | Pixel 6 and later, including Fold | Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth diagnostics |
Availability statements and menu paths are Google’s published guidance and may change with newer models or software. In particular, the calls, mobile data, and Wi-Fi diagnostic scope is limited to Pixel 11 series in the US. Google’s health and support guide and Google’s troubleshooting index list these feature limits.
How to open Pixel Repair Diagnostics
- On the Pixel phone, open the Phone app and tap the dial pad.
- Enter
*#*#7287#*#*. - When the Pixel Repair Diagnostics app opens, follow the on-screen instructions and tap Confirm when prompted.
Google describes this separate app as a way to check a device before and after repair. It is available on Pixel 3 and later phones and Pixel Tablets. Tablet diagnostics use Google Pixel Update and Software Repair with a USB connection, rather than the phone dialer route. The checks cover categories such as visual, sensor, connectivity, camera, audio, and screen functions, but the exact checks can vary by device; some manual tests require you to interact with the phone. See Google’s Pixel Repair Diagnostics instructions and the Pixel Repair Diagnostics manual.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
How to check a Pixel that will not charge
For a charging problem, start with the Settings health hub and look for battery or charging diagnostics if they are offered on your model. Google’s Ask Pixel Help example uses the query “Can’t charge phone”; describing the symptom in plain language is a useful way to begin. Follow any available prompts, then use the result to decide whether to continue with software troubleshooting or seek repair. A diagnostic result is a troubleshooting aid, not a guarantee that it has found every hardware fault.
How to run touch diagnostics when the screen misses taps
Touch diagnostics are available only on Pixel 9 and later. Open Settings > Device health & support and run the touch check if it appears. Google’s guidance for Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL includes that test; for Pixel 8a and earlier, including Fold, it instead recommends ordinary troubleshooting steps.
Rank #2
- Google Pixel 10a is a durable, everyday phone with more[1]; snap brilliant photography on a simple, powerful camera, get 30+ hours out of a full charge[2], and do more with helpful AI like Gemini[3]
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]
- The Actua display with 3,000-nit peak brightness shows up clear as day, even in direct sunlight[5]
- Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
- Clean the display and check whether touch response improves.
- Temporarily remove the case or screen protector to see whether either interferes. A screen protector may not be reusable once removed.
- Check for software updates and settings that could affect touch response.
- If an app may be responsible, use safe mode where appropriate to help isolate the cause.

On Pixel 6 and later, including Fold, open Settings > Connected devices > Bluetooth diagnostics and follow the prompts for the connection problem you are experiencing. This is a distinct route from the repair app and the general Device health & support page. The test can help with troubleshooting, but it should not be treated as a complete fault detector for every phone or connected device. Google lists the route and model coverage in its troubleshooting index.

Device health & support also links to repair options, warranty information, and Google support. Before handing a device in, review current repair preparation instructions. Repair Mode is designed to protect personal data while a device is being serviced, avoiding the time-consuming process of backing up, wiping, and restoring data; it does not replace the need to follow current preparation guidance. Google introduced the feature in its June 2023 Pixel update announcement.
If you choose self-repair, Google’s US Store repair page says authorized parts are available through iFixit and recommends self-repair only for people with relevant technical expertise. Use the manual and parts information for your specific model; a tool kit is not required to run software diagnostics. Repair availability and parts options on that page are specific to the US.
