If Nothing OS 5.0 is unstable on your phone, the supported rollback is started in Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub. Tap Check Version, request a rollback when the option is offered, then install the downgrade OTA from System updates. The official flow is a factory-reset-style operation: it erases the phone’s local data, so back up first and make sure you can sign back in to your accounts.

The exact destination build is not universal. Nothing delivers the eligible downgrade as a system OTA for the specific model, region and installed build, so use the version shown on your phone rather than expecting one fixed OS number.

What the Nothing OS 5.0 rollback actually does

Nothing’s supported downgrade is not an ordinary uninstall or an option that preserves your current installation. Beta Hub requests a system OTA package, and the phone then installs that package through the normal System updates screen. The process resets the device and erases local content.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That means a rollback can remove photos that were stored only on the phone, locally saved messages, call history, authenticator data, downloaded files, app data and settings. Cloud-synchronized information can usually be restored after setup, but you should not assume that every app or service has a complete backup. Treat the operation like a factory reset.

Nothing’s official wording says the downgrade is handled through a system OTA update. The target version depends on the eligible device and region; the official instructions do not define one build number that applies to every Nothing phone.

Check whether your phone can roll back

The Request Rollback control appears only when Beta Hub considers the device and installed software eligible. Open the hub before making plans to downgrade.

Supported-flow check

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap System.
  3. Open Nothing Beta Hub.
  4. Tap Check Version.
  5. Look for Request Rollback. If it is displayed, the official rollback route is available for that phone at that time.

Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of major software support and will not receive Nothing OS 5.0. If one of these models is running another version, it should not be treated as an OS 5.0 rollback candidate. Eligibility can also vary by region and by the build installed on the phone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If Request Rollback is missing

Do not substitute a random firmware package or assume that a file for another model is safe. A missing button means the official server is not offering the supported downgrade to that installation. Check that the phone has an internet connection, run Check Version again, and verify the model and region. If the device still is not eligible, contact Nothing Customer Support for model-specific guidance.

Back up and prepare before you request the downgrade

Finish the preparation before tapping the final confirmation. The OTA may be delivered later, but the reset occurs when you confirm the rollback.

Data to preserve

  • Photos and videos, including folders that are not part of your normal cloud photo backup.
  • Contacts, messages and call logs.
  • Authenticator accounts, recovery codes, passkeys and other two-factor authentication data.
  • Documents, downloads, voice recordings and files stored only in local app folders.
  • Notes, game saves and app-specific exports that do not synchronize automatically.
  • Any eSIM, banking or workplace information that requires a reactivation step after a reset.

Verify the backup by checking it from another device or a web account where possible. Record the Google account credentials used on the phone and make sure you can complete two-factor authentication after setup. A reset can leave you unable to finish activation if you no longer have access to the account or its second factor.

Connection, power and storage

  • Connect to reliable Wi-Fi; Nothing’s update instructions recommend Wi-Fi for system updates.
  • Charge the phone above the required threshold. Nothing Support says the battery must be at least 40% for an OTA upgrade to be allowed.
  • Keep enough free storage for the downloaded package and the installation process.
  • Remove avoidable interruptions: do not begin while travelling between networks or when you may need to use the phone.

What you should see before proceeding

After you request the rollback, Beta Hub should display Request Successful. The request remains valid for 48 hours and can take up to five minutes to synchronize. Do not interpret a short delay as a failed request; wait for the synchronization period, then continue from Beta Hub.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Official step-by-step rollback procedure

Use this sequence on the phone that is running the eligible Nothing OS 5.0 software.

  1. Open Beta Hub: go to Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub.
  2. Check eligibility: tap Check Version.
  3. Send the request: tap Request Rollback.
  4. Wait for synchronization: when Request Successful appears, tap OK. Allow up to five minutes for the request to synchronize. The approval remains usable for 48 hours.
  5. Open the rollback action: after synchronization, tap Go to Rollback.
  6. Read the warning: confirm that you understand all data will be erased and that the phone has been backed up.
  7. Start the downgrade: tap Confirm & Rollback.
  8. Install the OTA: the phone redirects to System updates. Download and install the downgrade package shown there.

The phone may restart during installation. Leave it connected to power where practical, keep the network stable and do not press the power button or perform other actions while the OTA is being applied. Interrupting a system update can leave the installation incomplete.

What happens after the downgrade

When the installation finishes, the phone starts the target software and presents the initial setup experience. Complete setup with the Google account you backed up, restore cloud data, reinstall apps and re-enrol security keys or authenticator accounts as required.

Restore in a controlled order

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi and finish the device setup screens.
  2. Sign in to the Google account associated with your backups.
  3. Restore contacts, photos and messages, then confirm that the restored items are present.
  4. Reinstall essential apps before optional ones so you can test the phone without adding unnecessary variables.
  5. Recreate authenticator entries and passkeys using the recovery methods you prepared before the reset.
  6. Check calls, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, camera operation and notifications before restoring every app.

The downgrade target is whatever eligible OTA Nothing offers for that model and region. If you need to know the resulting build, check the phone’s software information after setup instead of relying on a build number from another device.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using Import File as a fallback

Nothing says the former Import File option remains at the bottom of Nothing Beta Hub as a backup method, but recommends Request Rollback. The request-based OTA is the preferred path because Beta Hub determines the package for the eligible device.

Use Import File only when you understand the file’s model, region and signing requirements and the option is presented by Beta Hub. Do not load a package obtained for a different phone or region. If you are uncertain which file is appropriate, stop and use the request-based method or ask Nothing Support rather than guessing.

If the 48-hour request window expires

An approved request is not permanent. If the 48-hour window passes before you start the downgrade, return to Settings > System > Nothing Beta Hub, tap Check Version and request rollback again. Wait for the new Request Successful message and synchronization, then use Go to Rollback.

Troubleshooting a failed or stalled rollback OTA

Most recovery actions depend on whether the phone can still reach the System updates screen. Do not repeatedly force-restart the phone while it is actively installing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The rollback request does not synchronize

  • Wait the full five-minute synchronization period after Request Successful appears.
  • Confirm that Wi-Fi has a good signal and that the phone is not switching between networks.
  • Return to Beta Hub and run Check Version again.
  • If the 48-hour approval has expired, submit a new request.
  • If the control never becomes available, the device or current build may no longer be eligible; contact Nothing Customer Support.

The OTA will not download

  • Move to a network with a reliable signal.
  • Free storage for the package and installation workspace.
  • Charge the phone to at least 40%, the minimum identified by Nothing Support.
  • Keep the phone on Wi-Fi and avoid starting other large downloads.

The installation was interrupted

Nothing Support advises restarting and trying the upgrade again if the process was interrupted. Once the phone has returned to a usable screen, reconnect to a reliable network, confirm sufficient storage and battery, then reopen Settings > System > System Update or follow the rollback prompt back to System updates. Do not press the power button or use the phone during the next installation attempt.

The phone cannot complete the update

If repeated attempts fail after the network, storage and battery checks, stop experimenting with unrelated firmware files. Record the model, current software version, the screen or error message and whether the phone can boot normally, then contact Nothing Customer Support. Support is the appropriate next step for a persistent OTA failure or a phone that no longer starts normally.

Rollback, staying on OS 5.0 or waiting for a fix

Rollback is not automatically the best choice for every problem. Use the following differences to decide before accepting the erase confirmation.

Choice Data impact Reliability path Time and effort Eligibility or dependency
Roll back Local data is erased as part of the official flow. Installs the stable OTA offered to the eligible device. Requires a verified backup, reset, OTA download and app restoration. Beta Hub must show Request Rollback; the request is valid for 48 hours.
Stay on Nothing OS 5.0 Preserves the current installation and its local data. Leaves the current problem in place while you troubleshoot or monitor updates. No reset; investigate the specific fault and wait for another update. No rollback approval is needed.
Wait for a fix Preserves the current installation and local data. A future patch may address the problem, but its timing is not guaranteed by the rollback instructions. Requires monitoring System updates and tolerating the current issue meanwhile. Depends on Nothing publishing an update for the model and region.

Choose rollback when the current software prevents normal use and Beta Hub offers the supported OTA, and when you have completed the backup and account checks. Waiting is less disruptive when the issue is tolerable and preserving the current setup matters more than returning to the offered stable build.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping the backup: the confirmation is a real erase warning, not a routine update notice.
  • Expecting one universal target version: the offered downgrade can vary by model and region.
  • Starting without account access: a reset can require the previously used Google credentials and two-factor authentication.
  • Ignoring the 40% battery requirement: the OTA may not be allowed below that threshold.
  • Using an unverified file: Import File is a backup option inside Beta Hub, not permission to install arbitrary firmware.
  • Interrupting installation: do not press the power button or use the phone while the OTA is being installed.
  • Repeating requests after a short delay: allow up to five minutes for synchronization before deciding that the request failed.

Quick decision checklist

  • Does Nothing Beta Hub > Check Version show Request Rollback?
  • Are photos, contacts, messages, call logs, authenticator data and local files backed up?
  • Can you access the Google account and two-factor method needed after reset?
  • Is the phone on reliable Wi-Fi, with enough storage and at least 40% battery?
  • Can you leave the phone untouched while the OTA downloads and installs?
  • Have you accepted that the exact target build will be the one Nothing offers to this device and region?

If every answer is yes, follow the Beta Hub sequence and let System updates complete the downgrade. If any answer is no, finish that preparation first or wait for a fix instead of confirming the rollback.
