To revoke a risky Polygon approval, open a Polygon-compatible approval manager, inspect the token, spender and allowance, then submit a revocation transaction from your wallet. The transaction normally sets an ERC-20 allowance to zero or turns an NFT approval off. It costs Polygon network gas, and it does not disconnect your wallet from a website.
What a Polygon token approval actually allows
A token approval is an on-chain permission. For an ERC-20 token, you authorize a specific spender—usually a smart-contract address used by a decentralized application (dapp)—to move up to a specified amount of that token from your address. The amount may be a small cap or an effectively unlimited allowance.
NFT permissions work differently. An approval can authorize a contract or operator to transfer a particular non-fungible token, or to manage every NFT in a collection. Revoking that permission changes the approval state on-chain; it does not erase the contract, reverse an earlier transfer or recover assets already moved.

When a site asks you to connect a wallet, it learns your public address and can request signatures or transactions. A token approval is a separate permission recorded in the token or NFT contract. Disconnecting the wallet in a site’s interface does not set an allowance to zero, and revoking an allowance does not remove the site from your wallet’s connected-site list.

When revoking makes sense
Review an approval when you no longer use the protocol, granted a larger allowance than necessary, cannot identify the spender, or suspect that a dapp or its domain has been compromised. Old approvals can remain valid even after you stop visiting a site.
Do not treat every approval as proof of fraud. A legitimate exchange, lending protocol or marketplace may need an allowance to execute a trade or transfer. Removing it improves control but means you may have to approve the token again during your next interaction.
A practical risk screen
- Recognized spender and active use: Keep the approval only if you recognize the contract and still need the workflow.
- Recognized spender but excessive cap: Revoke an unlimited or unnecessarily large allowance, then approve a smaller amount when needed.
- Unknown spender: Treat it as unsafe until you can independently verify why it has permission.
- Already-used or suspicious wallet: Revocation limits that particular permission; it does not prove that no other approval, signature or compromise exists.
What you need before starting
- The wallet address whose approvals you want to review.
- Access to the wallet, including the ability to sign a transaction.
- The Polygon network selected in the approval interface.
- A small amount of Polygon’s native gas token in that same wallet. The exact cost varies with network conditions, so do not rely on a fixed fee estimate.
- A way to verify the transaction after it is mined, such as the approval interface or a Polygon block explorer.
Use a wallet and approval tool reached through a source you trust. Phishing pages can imitate a checker and request a dangerous approval instead of a revocation.

Choose an approval interface
Several web interfaces can inspect Polygon permissions. Their labels and coverage can change, so use the current Polygon selector and transaction controls shown by the service rather than relying on an old button name.

Step-by-step: revoke an ERC-20 approval on Polygon
1. Open the checker and select Polygon
Launch the approval manager you chose, connect the wallet you want to inspect, and choose Polygon (sometimes shown as Polygon PoS) in the network selector. A list for Ethereum or another chain is not a list of your Polygon permissions; approvals are chain-specific.
2. Locate the token and spender
For each row, read all of the available fields:
- Token: Confirm the symbol and, when possible, the token contract address. Symbols can be reused by unrelated contracts.
- Spender: This is the contract address that can call the token’s transfer function under the allowance.
- Allowance or cap: Note whether the amount is finite, unlimited, or already zero.
- Last-use or related details: Treat these as clues, not proof of legitimacy. Verify the spender independently.
Do not approve a transaction simply because the token name looks familiar. The spender address and the network must match the permission you intend to change.
3. Decide whether to keep or remove it
Keep a permission only when you recognize the spender and expect to use it. For an old or unnecessary allowance, select the revoke control. If the interface offers an edit-to-zero or set-limit option, setting the allowance to zero is the effective ERC-20 revocation state.
4. Review the wallet prompt
Your wallet should show a transaction that changes the allowance rather than a new token approval. Check the destination contract, network, estimated gas and the token or spender named by the interface. Reject the request if it asks for an unrelated transfer, a new unlimited approval or a network you did not choose.
5. Confirm and wait for settlement
Confirm the transaction in the wallet. Revocation is an on-chain write, so the wallet must have enough Polygon gas and the transaction must be mined. Keep the transaction hash if you need to investigate a pending or failed result.

6. Verify the allowance is zero
Refresh the checker after the transaction is confirmed and inspect the same token-spender row. A successful ERC-20 revocation should show a zero allowance or remove the active permission. If the interface still shows the old value, wait for its indexer to update, then verify the transaction status in a Polygon explorer.

1. Identify the approval scope
An NFT permission may apply to one token ID or to an entire collection. Read whether the interface is showing a single-token approval or an operator approval that covers every NFT in that collection.
2. Select the exact approval
Choose the collection, token ID or operator you no longer trust. Avoid revoking a different collection with a similar name; verify the NFT contract address where the interface provides it.
3. Confirm the state change
The wallet transaction should disable the selected approval. In the resulting on-chain state, the relevant NFT approval is false or the operator is no longer authorized. The transaction still consumes gas and may require a separate revocation for another collection or token.
4. Recheck the collection
After confirmation, refresh the interface and verify that the selected approval is disabled. If an operator approval covered an entire collection, confirm that the operator entry—not merely one token ID—has been removed.

Gas, timing and transaction costs
Every revocation is a Polygon transaction. You pay gas even though you are removing a permission and are not receiving tokens. The amount depends on the transaction’s computational work, Polygon’s current demand and the gas settings offered by your wallet; no fixed fee is reliable.
A pending transaction can remain unresolved while the network or wallet fee settings change. Do not submit repeated revocations immediately, because multiple pending transactions can create confusion. Check the original hash first. If the wallet provides a speed-up or replacement option, use it only when you understand which pending transaction it replaces.
What revocation does—and does not—fix

If you signed a malicious permit, sent funds, exposed a seed phrase or installed compromised software, allowance revocation alone is not a complete incident response. Move remaining assets to a secure wallet when appropriate and investigate every relevant permission and signature separately.

The wrong network or address is selected
Switch the checker to Polygon and confirm that the connected address is the one that granted the permission. A wallet can contain several accounts, and a permission on another chain will not appear in Polygon’s list.

Approval checkers rely on contract patterns they can recognize. Some non-standard approvals may not appear. Absence from one checker therefore does not establish that every kind of permission is gone.

The index has not refreshed
After a confirmed transaction, refresh the page or allow time for the service to update. Use the transaction hash and a Polygon explorer to distinguish an indexing delay from a failed transaction.
The allowance is already zero
A row may remain visible as historical data even when its current allowance is zero. Read the current value rather than assuming that the existence of a row means the spender can still move tokens.
How to handle failed or unsafe revocations
Insufficient gas
Add enough Polygon gas to the same wallet and retry from the original interface. Never send gas to an unfamiliar address merely because a pop-up requests it; fund the wallet through a method you already trust.
Transaction rejected in the wallet
No on-chain change occurs when you reject the signature. Reopen the checker, verify the network and spender, and start again only after the wallet prompt matches the intended revocation.
Transaction failed
Inspect the failure in a Polygon explorer. Confirm that the approval still has a non-zero or active value before retrying. If the contract is non-standard or the checker repeatedly fails, consult the protocol’s documented method rather than signing an unrelated transaction.
The prompt asks for a new approval
Cancel it. A revocation should change an existing permission; a request for a new unlimited approval is a different operation. Recheck that you opened the genuine approval-management interface and selected the correct row.
Security checklist for every revocation
- Use the correct wallet account and select Polygon explicitly.
- Match the token contract, spender address and allowance shown by the checker.
- Independently verify an unfamiliar spender before deciding whether to keep it.
- Read the wallet transaction details; reject any request that transfers assets or grants a new allowance.
- Confirm that the wallet has enough gas without relying on a fixed-price promise.
- Save the transaction hash and verify the resulting allowance or approval after mining.
- Disconnect the website separately if you no longer want the site listed as a connected dapp.
Using a protocol again after revocation
Revocation is reversible in the practical sense that a protocol can request a new approval later. When you next trade, lend, mint or list an asset, the dapp may ask for another allowance. Review the amount and spender at that time instead of automatically granting an unlimited cap. A smaller, task-specific allowance reduces the amount that contract could move if the permission is later abused, while requiring more frequent approvals.
Bottom line
Open a trusted Polygon approval checker, inspect each token or NFT permission by spender, revoke only what you no longer need, and confirm the resulting on-chain transaction. ERC-20 revocation produces a zero allowance; NFT revocation disables the selected approval. Budget variable Polygon gas, verify the final state, and remember that allowance management and wallet-site disconnection are separate controls.
