To revive a friend in Don’t Starve Together, have a living player craft a Telltale Heart from 3 Cut Grass and 1 Spider Gland, then give it directly to the dead player’s ghost. Crafting costs the rescuer 40 health; the rescuer gains 80 sanity, and the revived character returns with a 25% maximum-health penalty. A Booster Shot removes that penalty.
Other revival routes include haunting a discovered Touch Stone, using a prepared or attuned Meat Effigy, haunting a dropped Life Giving Amulet, or using the Florid Postern/Celestial Portal when the server has enabled the relevant setting.

A Telltale Heart is the standard co-op rescue when at least one teammate is still alive. The ghost cannot create or use the heart by haunting it; a living player must craft the item and give it to the ghost.
What the living rescuer needs
- 3 Cut Grass
- 1 Spider Gland
- Enough current health to absorb the 40-health crafting cost
- A dead teammate’s ghost within reach for the handoff
Craft and use the heart
- Open the crafting menu as the living character.
- Select the Telltale Heart recipe.
- Spend 3 Cut Grass and 1 Spider Gland. The crafting action costs the rescuer 40 health and grants that rescuer 80 sanity.
- Move next to the teammate’s ghost.
- Give the Telltale Heart directly to the ghost. Haunting the heart does not revive the ghost, so the living player must perform the transfer.
- After the revival completes, help the returned player recover the items dropped at the death location.
What happens after a Telltale Heart revival
The revived character has a 25% reduction to maximum health. This is a maximum-health penalty, not merely temporary damage. Use a Booster Shot to remove it. The health penalty is the price of the heart’s speed: it lets a team rescue someone immediately without first finding a special structure or arranging a pre-death item.

Alternative revival methods
Touch Stone
A ghost can haunt a Touch Stone to revive. Touch Stones are discovered in the world and provide a limited, one-use opportunity, so they are best treated as emergency resources that should be located and remembered before a teammate dies. This route does not depend on a living player carrying grass and a Spider Gland at the moment of death.
- Living player required: No; the ghost activates the Touch Stone.
- Preparation: Find the structure and know where it is before the crisis.
- Availability: Limited to a Touch Stone that exists and has not already been used.
- Maximum-health penalty: The Touch Stone method is not described as applying the Telltale Heart’s 25% penalty.
Meat Effigy
A Meat Effigy must be prepared before death. In Don’t Starve Together, the player must craft or attune another Meat Effigy to become eligible to revive with it. Merely having an unprepared effigy somewhere in the world is not enough; complete the required preparation while the character is alive.

Life Giving Amulet
A Life Giving Amulet can revive a ghost when the ghost haunts the dropped amulet. This differs from a Telltale Heart: the amulet is activated by haunting, and it does not impose a maximum-health penalty.

- Availability: Limited to a Life Giving Amulet in the world and accessible to the ghost.

Florid Postern or Celestial Portal
Portal revival is controlled by the server’s customization settings. The Florid Postern/Celestial Portal can revive players only when the server operator enables the “Revive At Florid Postern” option. If that option is disabled, reaching the portal will not provide this revival route, so check the setting before relying on it.
- Living player required: The portal setting determines access; a living teammate is not the defining requirement.
- Preparation: Confirm the customization option and know the portal location.
- Availability: Entirely dependent on the server operator’s setting.
- Maximum-health penalty: The supplied game information does not assign the Telltale Heart penalty to portal revival.

What death changes and what revival restores
Death turns the character into a ghost and drops the character’s inventory at the death location. Revival restores the character, but it does not automatically put those dropped items back into the inventory. Plan a recovery trip and protect the route from the hazard that caused the death.
Hunger and sanity are reset according to the game’s resurrection behavior. Because the inventory remains at the death site, the revived player may return without the tools, food, armor or weapons needed for the recovery. A teammate should therefore escort the ghost’s returned character or bring replacement supplies when possible.

How to choose the right rescue
Use a Telltale Heart when someone is dead now
Choose the heart when one teammate is alive, the basic ingredients are available and waiting for a structure or a prepared item would be riskier than accepting the health penalty. It is the direct, repeatable emergency option for a team that has not planned another revival route.
Use a Life Giving Amulet when avoiding the penalty matters
If a Life Giving Amulet is available at the death site, it is preferable for a character whose maximum health must remain intact. The ghost activates the amulet by haunting it, so no living rescuer has to spend 40 health crafting a heart.
Use a Touch Stone when the location is known
A Touch Stone is useful when the ghost can reach a discovered, unused stone safely. It rewards exploration and map knowledge, but it is not an unlimited replacement for team supplies because each stone is a one-use opportunity.

Rely on a Meat Effigy only after confirming eligibility
Before depending on an effigy, verify that the character completed the required crafting or attunement step while alive. If that setup was skipped, the effigy does not serve as a last-second substitute for a Telltale Heart.

Ask the server operator whether “Revive At Florid Postern” is enabled. This check prevents a dangerous trip to the portal based on a setting the server does not allow.
Preparing a team before anyone dies
- Keep heart ingredients available: Maintain a reserve of Cut Grass and Spider Glands so a living player can craft the emergency item without a scavenger hunt.
- Mark Touch Stones: Locate them during exploration and communicate their positions to every player.
- Set up Meat Effigies correctly: Complete the required crafting or attunement while the character is alive; do not assume construction alone makes the character eligible.
- Track Life Giving Amulets: Know where an amulet is stored or dropped so a ghost can reach it.
- Confirm portal rules: Check the server customization for “Revive At Florid Postern” before treating the Florid Postern or Celestial Portal as part of the group’s plan.
- Plan item recovery: Note where deaths occur and keep spare equipment available, because revival does not retrieve the inventory dropped at the death location.
Troubleshooting a failed rescue
The ghost cannot revive with a Telltale Heart
Check that the item was crafted by a living player and given directly to the ghost. Haunting the heart is not a substitute for the living player’s handoff. Also verify the recipe used exactly 3 Cut Grass and 1 Spider Gland.

The rescuer is unexpectedly damaged
The 40-health crafting cost is intentional. The rescuer receives 80 sanity, but health is spent to create the heart. After the handoff, account for the rescuer’s reduced health before taking on another dangerous task.
The revived character has less maximum health
That is the Telltale Heart’s 25% maximum-health penalty. A Booster Shot removes the penalty; ordinary healing does not change the maximum-health reduction.

The team cannot find a usable Touch Stone
A Touch Stone is a discovered, one-use world opportunity. If the stone has already been used or its location is unknown, switch to the Telltale Heart or another prepared method instead of delaying the rescue.
A Meat Effigy does not provide the expected revival
Confirm that the player crafted or attuned another Meat Effigy before death. The required eligibility preparation is part of the DST method.
The portal does nothing
Ask the server operator to verify the “Revive At Florid Postern” customization option. Portal revival is unavailable when that setting is disabled.
