Use Samsung’s built-in storage analysis in My Files: open the app, tap Analyse storage, then review the Large files list. It gathers potential cleanup candidates in one place, so you do not have to inspect folders one at a time. Treat the list as a review tool, not a command to delete: a large file may still be important.
Find large files in My Files
- Open My Files. It comes pre-installed on most Galaxy devices. If you cannot see it, search your apps or check the Samsung folder.
- Scroll to the bottom of the My Files screen and tap Analyse storage. On some versions, tap More options and choose Analyse storage instead. Samsung describes this feature as an analysis of the storage used by files on the device (Samsung UK, updated 3 April 2024).
- Review the storage breakdown, then scroll to Large files to see the items the analysis found.
- Open or otherwise inspect each candidate before deciding whether to keep, move, or delete it.
Samsung’s guidance does not define a universal size cutoff for this list. It also does not promise that you will recover a particular amount of space; the result depends on the files present on your phone.
Try the Settings storage view if needed
On devices where the option is available, go to Settings > Device care > Storage. Samsung India documents this as another way to inspect storage, including duplicate, large, and unused files; tapping a data type can show more detail (Samsung India).

Find a file another way when you know what to look for
My Files also lets you browse by category or storage location. Use Videos, Images, Audio, or Downloads to narrow the search; if you know the filename, use Search. Samsung says camera photos may be in Internal storage > DCIM > Camera or the corresponding folder on an SD card (Samsung UK).
Keep the files you may need
Copy or move to external storage
Samsung documents copying or moving files from internal storage to an SD card or connected external storage. Copying leaves the original on the phone; moving transfers it off internal storage. SD-card support depends on the Galaxy model, so check compatibility before relying on that option (Samsung Canada, updated 15 August 2026).

Transfer to a computer
Connect the phone with a USB cable that supports data transfer, select the file-transfer option when prompted, and use the computer’s file browser to manage the files. Samsung’s cited instructions are for Canadian devices; screens and settings can differ in other countries (Samsung Canada).

Delete only after checking the selection
Confirm that each selected item is the one you intend to remove. Storage analysis identifies candidates; it cannot tell you whether a video, document, or download is disposable. Take extra care with bulk actions: Samsung UK warns that using a delete-all action after reviewing duplicate-file results can remove originals as well as duplicates (Samsung UK).

After deletion, check Trash in My Files if you need to restore an item. Samsung Canada says deleted files may remain there for 30 days before permanent deletion when Trash is available; the feature is not present on every model (Samsung Canada).

The storage figure shown for a Galaxy phone is not all available for personal files. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 manual explains that usable internal capacity is lower because the operating system and default apps occupy part of it. That is a model-specific explanation, not a quantified estimate for every Galaxy device (Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 user manual).
