If a game you bought is missing from your PS5 library, start with Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses, then select the relevant license. When the title is visible on the Home screen or in Game Library, you can also highlight it, press the Options button, and choose Restore License. Sony states that restoring licenses does not affect your saved data or other console data.
License restoration is an account-entitlement check, not a download-repair tool. Before using it, verify that you are signed in to the account that made the purchase and that the transaction succeeded. A hidden game, another user’s sharing settings, a lapsed PlayStation Plus benefit, or a catalog title that is no longer available requires a different check.
What a PS5 license is—and what restoring it changes
A digital PlayStation purchase gives your account an entitlement to use the game. Your PS5 checks that entitlement when it displays the title in Game Library or starts the game. If the console cannot currently match the installed or expected title with the account that owns it, the game can appear to be missing, locked, or unavailable.
Restore Licenses makes the console re-check the digital licenses associated with your account. It does not buy the game again, change the owner of a purchase, convert a PlayStation Plus benefit into a permanent purchase, or recover a title that was never successfully added to the account. Sony’s support guidance explicitly says the operation will not affect your data.

There are two entry points:
- The account-wide route is Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Use it when several titles are missing or when the game is not visible.
- The game-specific route is to highlight the title on the Home screen or in Game Library, press Options, and select Restore License. Use it when the title is visible but locked or behaving as though you do not own it.
The menu names and service behavior described here follow Sony’s PS5 support workflow as available in October 2026. Sony can change labels or account requirements by region or system-software version.
Identify the kind of access you expected
The correct fix depends on how the game entered your library. A standalone Store purchase, a game shared by another account, a PlayStation Plus benefit, and a hidden title can look similar at first but have different ownership rules.

1. Confirm the account and transaction
Use the account that actually purchased the game
On a shared console, it is easy to open Game Library under a different user. A purchase belongs to the PlayStation account that completed the transaction, not automatically to every account on the PS5. Switch to the purchaser’s account before deciding that the license is missing.

If the transaction was made by another account, restore licenses while signed in to that account first. If the game is intended for other users on the console, review Console Sharing and Offline Play as described below.
Check transaction history
Open the purchasing account’s transaction history and look for the game, the edition you expected, and the date of purchase or voucher redemption. Sony’s missing-content troubleshooting guidance recommends confirming that the transaction succeeded before moving to license restoration.
- A completed transaction supports the conclusion that the account owns a digital entitlement.
- A pending, reversed, or failed transaction does not prove that a license was created.
- If you bought an edition with separate add-ons, confirm that you are checking the correct base game and the relevant add-on entitlement.
Do not assume that seeing a charge on a bank statement alone proves which PlayStation account received the purchase. The account’s own transaction history is the useful reference for this troubleshooting path.

2. Check whether the title is hidden
Game Library can hide a title without removing its license. Sony notes that games hidden in Game Library are hidden in the libraries of all consoles using that account. Therefore, a game absent on one PS5 may also be absent on another PS5 even though the purchase remains valid.

Open Game Library, review the hidden-games area, and search for the title. If you find it, unhide it and return to the library. You do not need to purchase the game again, and restoring licenses is not the first remedy for a title that was deliberately hidden.
If the game is not hidden and the purchasing account’s transaction history is correct, continue with the entitlement-specific checks and then restore licenses.
3. Check Console Sharing and Offline Play
When this check applies
Use this section when one user bought the game and another user is trying to play it. The purchaser’s account must have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled on the PS5 that other users are using. With the setting enabled, users of that PS5 can play the purchaser’s downloaded games and use purchased media even when the console is offline.
Rules that commonly cause a missing game
- The purchaser’s account—not the secondary player’s account—must be the account that enabled the setting.
- Only one PS5 can have Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled for an account at a time.
- The first PS5 on which the purchaser signs in is automatically allowed to use the setting.
- When moving the entitlement to a new PS5, the setting must be disabled on the old PS5 before it can be activated on the new one.
If another PS5 is still activated for that account, a new console may show the game as unavailable to other users even though the purchaser can see it while signed in. Sign in as the purchaser, open Settings > Users and Accounts, and review the Console Sharing and Offline Play setting. Follow the on-screen option to enable it on this PS5, or disable it on the previous PS5 first if Sony prevents activation.
This setting does not transfer ownership. It only determines whether other users on the selected PS5 can use the purchaser’s downloaded games and media. If the purchaser’s account never completed the transaction, enabling sharing cannot create the missing entitlement.

4. Restore licenses on the PS5
Account-wide method
- Sign in to the account that bought the game or received the relevant entitlement.
- From the PS5 home screen, open Settings.
- Select Users and Accounts.
- Choose Other.
- Select Restore Licenses.
- Choose the relevant licenses when the console presents the list, then confirm the operation.
Use this method when the game is missing from Game Library, when several purchases are affected, or when you are not sure which individual title needs a refresh. Wait for the console to finish before checking the library again.
Per-game method
- Find the game on the PS5 Home screen or in Game Library.
- Highlight the title without launching it.
- Press the controller’s Options button.
- Select Restore License.
The per-game route is convenient when the title is visible but displays a lock or refuses to start. If the title is completely absent, use the account-wide route instead.
What the operation does not do
Restoring licenses does not delete saves, installed games, captures, or other data. It also does not download a game, repair a damaged installation, change the account that owns a purchase, or extend a PlayStation Plus subscription. If the license check succeeds but the installed files are damaged, you will need to follow Sony’s separate download or installation troubleshooting rather than repeatedly restoring the same license.

Monthly or claimed Plus benefits
If you claimed the game as a PlayStation Plus benefit rather than buying it independently, verify that the subscription associated with that benefit is still active. The game can remain visible while access is blocked when the qualifying subscription has ended.
Restoring licenses can refresh the account’s recognition of an active benefit, but it cannot turn a lapsed subscription into an active one. It also cannot establish that a game was claimed if the transaction or benefit record is absent.
PlayStation Plus catalog titles
Catalog access is time-dependent. Check both the subscription tier required for the title and whether the game remains in the current catalog. A title that has left the catalog is not restored by the license tool, even if it was previously downloadable through the service.

Keep this separate from a standalone purchase. If the transaction history shows that you bought the game outright, catalog membership and subscription status are not the reason that ownership exists or disappears; continue with the account, hidden-game, sharing, and license checks instead.
6. If the game is still missing after restoration
Check PlayStation service status
Temporary account or Store service problems can prevent a console from confirming an otherwise valid entitlement. Sony’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the PlayStation status page when purchased content cannot be found. If an outage is reported, wait for the service issue to clear before treating the missing title as a permanent account problem.
Install current PS5 system software
Run the PS5’s system-software update check and install any available update. Menu behavior and Store entitlement handling can depend on the system software version. After the update completes, repeat the license check once rather than changing several account settings at the same time.
Recheck Console Sharing and Offline Play
For a game purchased by another user, return to the purchaser’s account and confirm that sharing is enabled on this specific PS5. If the purchaser recently moved from another console, make sure the old console is no longer the one holding the account’s single active sharing slot.
Use Safe Mode only through Sony’s documented procedure
Sony’s troubleshooting path also includes Safe Mode options to clear the console cache and rebuild the database. These operations are intended for broader system or library problems, not as a substitute for checking the purchase account. Enter Safe Mode and choose only the cache-clearing or database-rebuilding option described in Sony’s current PS5 guidance. Read every warning on the console before confirming; do not select a reset or data-erasing option when your goal is only to recover a license.

Contact PlayStation Support with useful evidence
If the title remains inaccessible after the account, transaction, hidden-library, entitlement, sharing, service-status, software, and license checks, contact PlayStation Support. Give the support representative enough detail to reproduce the problem:

- The account type and region used for the purchase, without sharing your password or security codes.
- The exact game name and edition, including whether it was bought outright, shared by another user, claimed through a Plus benefit, or downloaded from a catalog.
- The transaction date or voucher-redemption date shown in transaction history.
- Any error code displayed by the PS5.
- The exact steps that lead to the missing or locked title.
- The date and time of the failed access attempt.
- A screenshot or video of the library entry, lock icon, error message, or transaction record if possible.
Sony specifically recommends providing an error code, reproduction steps, the time of the attempt, and a screenshot or video when available. This information helps Support distinguish an account-entitlement issue from a Store outage, sharing configuration problem, or damaged installation.
Decision guide for common situations
The game was purchased minutes ago
Stay on the account that completed the purchase, verify the transaction succeeded, and then restore licenses from Settings > Users and Accounts > Other. If the transaction is not present, do not assume the license is merely delayed; resolve the purchase or voucher issue with Support.
The purchaser can play, but another user cannot
Check Console Sharing and Offline Play on the purchaser’s account. The setting must be enabled on this PS5, and no other PS5 can hold the active sharing slot for that account.

The game is visible but has a lock icon
Use the title’s Options > Restore License route while signed in to the account that owns the access. Then verify whether the entitlement is a standalone purchase, a Plus benefit, a catalog title, or another user’s shared purchase.
The game disappeared from every console using the account
Check whether it was hidden in Game Library. Sony says hidden games are hidden across the account’s console libraries, so unhide the title before changing licenses or subscriptions.
The game came from a Plus catalog
Confirm that the qualifying subscription is active and that the game remains in the current catalog. A license refresh cannot override catalog removal.
What to record before changing settings
Keep a short record of the account used, the transaction-history result, the game edition, the console on which sharing is enabled, the exact error text, and the time of each attempt. This prevents repeated checks under the wrong user and gives Support a clear timeline if the normal restore route fails.

Bottom line
For a purchased game missing on PS5, verify the purchasing account and transaction first. Check hidden games, identify whether access comes from a standalone purchase, Console Sharing and Offline Play, or a PlayStation Plus benefit, and then use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses. Sony says the process does not affect data. If the title is still unavailable, check service status and system software, use Sony’s documented Safe Mode troubleshooting when appropriate, and contact Support with the error code and evidence of what happened.
