To restore an uninstalled app on a Google Pixel, open the Google Play Store and go to Profile icon > Manage apps & device > Manage. If necessary, change the filter to This device > Not installed, select the app, and tap Install. If the app was disabled rather than deleted, the button will be Enable instead. Use the Google Account that originally downloaded or purchased the app.
Restore the app directly on your Pixel
Google’s current Play Store instructions use the Manage apps & device screen. Follow these steps on the Pixel that should receive the app:
- Open Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner.
- Choose Manage apps & device, then tap Manage.
- Review the apps shown. If the missing app is not visible, tap the device filter at the top and select This device > Not installed.
- Tap the app’s name and choose Install.
These labels follow Google Play Help’s current Android directions: Google’s reinstall and re-enable instructions. The app must still be available for your Pixel and Android version; a previous download does not override compatibility limits.

A missing icon does not always mean the app was deleted. Android distinguishes between an app that was uninstalled and a preinstalled app that was turned off.

Install downloads the app again. Enable turns an existing preinstalled package back on; it does not download a separate replacement.
If the app is not listed
Check the device filter
The Manage screen can initially show only apps currently installed on the Pixel. Tap the filter at the top and choose This device > Not installed. That view is designed to surface apps previously associated with the device but no longer installed.

Check the Google Account
Play Store history is tied to the Google Account used for the original download or purchase. Tap the profile icon and verify that account before searching again. If the app was obtained with a different account, switch to that account and repeat the Manage steps.
Consider compatibility
Google says a purchased app can generally be reinstalled on compatible Android devices signed in to the same account without paying again. Compatibility can still determine whether the app is offered for the Pixel, so an app absent from the list may no longer support that device or Android version. What to do if Play Store asks you to pay again
- Stop before completing the purchase.
- Open the Play Store profile menu and identify the signed-in Google Account.
- Switch to the account that originally downloaded or purchased the app.
- Return to Manage apps & device > Manage and select This device > Not installed.
- Open the app listing and look for Install rather than a purchase button.
Google’s guidance states that eligible purchases can be reinstalled on compatible Android devices under the same account without another charge. A payment prompt commonly means the Play Store is using a different account, although availability and compatibility still apply. Do not buy the app again until the account has been checked.

- Go to Google’s instructions for installing apps on another Android device and open Google Play on your computer, or visit
play.google.com. - Sign in with the Google Account associated with the app if prompted.
- Find the app’s Play Store listing.
- Choose the available action: Install, Installed, or Enable.
- Select the Pixel from the device list, then choose Install.
The computer route is useful when typing or searching is easier on a larger screen. It still depends on the Pixel being a compatible target and on the correct Google Account being signed in.

Understand what “restore” does to app data
Reinstalling or re-enabling the app restores its software package, not necessarily its former local state. Google’s installation instructions do not promise recovery of an app’s previous settings, downloaded files, saved games, messages, or other data.

- If the app synchronized data to its own online account or supported backup, that data may return after you sign in, according to the app’s design.
- Data stored only on the Pixel may have been removed when the app was uninstalled and may not return with a fresh installation.
- Enabling a disabled preinstalled app is different from reinstalling it, so information associated with the existing package may remain available; the app itself determines what is retained.
Because backup behavior differs by app, treat the Play Store procedure as an installation method, not a guaranteed data-recovery method.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
The app still does not appear
- Confirm that the filter says This device > Not installed, not only the installed-app view.
- Verify the active Google Account against the account used for the original download or purchase.
- Check whether the app is compatible with the Pixel. Google’s account history does not make an incompatible app installable.
The listing shows Enable instead of Install
The app is being treated as disabled, typically because it was preinstalled and switched off. Tap Enable; do not look for a second download unless the listing later offers an update or installation.
The listing shows a price
Do not assume the original purchase has been lost. Recheck the Google Account, then reopen the listing or the Not installed list. Google’s no-second-charge rule applies to compatible devices using the account that made the purchase; a different account or an app that is no longer compatible can produce a different result.
The computer cannot find the Pixel
Make sure you are signed in to Google Play with the same account used on the phone and select the intended Pixel when Google presents the device list. If the Pixel is not offered as a target, compatibility or account association may be preventing the remote install.
Why older “Library” instructions can be confusing
Some older guides tell readers to open a Play Store Library tab. A 2021 Google Android Community response used that wording in answer to the question “how to restore a deleted app,” but Google’s current official directions use Manage apps & device > Manage. The historical wording is useful for recognizing an old instruction, not for choosing the current menu path. The community thread is available at Google Android Community.
