There is no universal, documented reset or abandon control for Diablo 4 seasonal quests. If a seasonal objective is frozen, its marker has vanished, or an NPC is missing, use reversible refresh steps first: leave the activity, return to town, unpin and repin the quest, relog from the character-select screen, verify the seasonal realm and campaign state, and only then test a difficulty change. Do not delete the character or repeatedly abandon and reacquire the quest; current player reports do not establish either action as a safe fix.
What “reset the quest” actually means in Diablo 4
Players use “reset” to describe several different problems: refreshing a missing map marker, making an NPC appear, clearing a party-progression error, or starting an objective over after leaving an event. Those are not necessarily the same state. A local journal or map display can be stale, while the objective may also depend on the character’s seasonal realm, campaign status, difficulty, party state, or a patch-level bug.
The available reports do not show a single button that safely resets every seasonal quest. One Season 9 player said they could not continue the season quest and could not find an option to quit it. Another report asked Blizzard to reset a quest after its marker disappeared. Treat any workaround below as a recovery attempt, not a guaranteed reset command.
Use this low-risk recovery sequence first
Perform the steps in order. Each one is reversible and gives you a clear checkpoint before you try a more disruptive change.

- Leave the dungeon, event, or quest area. Finish any activity you can safely exit, then travel to a town. Do not delete the character or intentionally abandon unrelated quests while testing the seasonal one.
- Refresh the journal tracking. Open the quest journal, unpin the seasonal quest, then pin it again. A player report about the Bryona objective lists unpinning and repinning as a way to refresh the quest display.
- Relog from character select. Log out to the character-selection screen rather than merely opening a menu and closing it. Sign back in with the same seasonal character and check the journal, map, objective text, and NPC location.
- Verify the realm and campaign requirement. Confirm that the character is on the seasonal realm, not an Eternal character. Check whether the campaign has been completed or skipped if the seasonal quest requires that state. Seasonal progression and enduring Eternal progression are separate paths, so a correct quest name alone does not prove that the character meets the unlock condition.
- Test one difficulty change only if the marker is still missing. Change difficulty once, relog, and inspect the map again. Reports describe a marker returning after moving from Torment I back to Hard, and another report says Penitent restored a marker. These are player observations, not guaranteed behavior for every quest or patch.
- Escalate when the objective remains frozen. If the NPC is absent, the objective text cannot advance, the quest vanished after a patch, or the error returns after the sequence, submit a Blizzard support request or bug report. Include the details listed in the support section below instead of repeatedly cycling the quest.
Which action should you try?
The table separates display refreshes from changes that might affect party or progression state. Start with the top rows and stop when the quest returns to a usable state.

Fixes for the most commonly reported failure patterns
“Taste of Power” says “Cannot progress due to party’s progression”
A player reported the exact message, “Cannot progress due to party’s progression,” while playing solo. That wording does not prove that another player is present; it may indicate that the quest’s progression state is inconsistent with the current session. In the report, leaving the area, resetting the game, and changing World Tiers did not resolve the problem.
Use the standard sequence once: leave for town, refresh the journal pin, relog to character select, and confirm the seasonal realm and campaign state. If the same message remains while you are still solo, record the exact text and submit it to Blizzard. Do not create or delete characters merely to test whether the party message clears.

“In the Name of the Tree” has no marker
Reports connected this missing marker with difficulty changes. In one account, moving from Torment I back to Hard and relogging brought the marker back; another account reported that Penitent restored it. These accounts do not establish a universal required difficulty, and the behavior may change between patches.
After the journal refresh and relog, change difficulty once, relog again, and inspect the map. If the marker returns, continue the objective normally. If it does not, capture the quest name, current difficulty, character, realm, platform, and the last objective you completed for a support or bug report.
Bryona is missing from “The Embers Yet Smolder”
A player report about Bryona listed several checks: campaign completion or skip, unpinning and repinning the quest, changing towns, relogging, and reloading the NPC. The report treats these as troubleshooting suggestions rather than a guaranteed restoration method.

Visit a town, perform the journal refresh, relog, and verify the campaign requirement before searching repeatedly. If Bryona still does not load, report the missing NPC and state exactly where the objective expects you to find her. An absent NPC after those checks is a reason to escalate, not to delete the character.

The seasonal quest disappeared after a patch
A separate report describes a seasonal quest disappearing after a patch and indicates that a fix was expected. When a patch changes or removes an objective for many players, local relogging and difficulty changes may not be enough. You can still perform the reversible sequence to rule out a stale session, but treat a post-patch disappearance as a possible game-side defect.
In the report, the practical next step was Blizzard intervention. Include the patch context in your ticket, such as when you last saw the quest, when it disappeared, and whether the journal entry, map marker, NPC, or objective text is missing.

How to verify the character before troubleshooting further
Confirm the seasonal realm
Seasonal characters and Eternal characters do not share the same progression path. Open the character information or selection view and verify that the affected character is marked as seasonal. If you are testing with a different character, make sure it has the same seasonal status; a quest that is available on one realm may not be available on the other.
Check campaign completion or skip status
Some seasonal progression is gated by completing or skipping the campaign. The Bryona report specifically identifies this as an unlock check. If the quest is absent on a newly created seasonal character, verify that the campaign requirement has been satisfied before treating the absence as a bug. If the requirement is already satisfied, note that fact in your support report.

Record the exact objective
Write down the objective exactly as shown, including capitalization and punctuation. “Slay the Demons,” “find Bryona,” and “marker missing” identify different failure points. Also record whether the quest remains in the journal, whether it is pinned, and whether the map shows any marker at all.

What not to do
- Do not delete the character. The available evidence does not show character deletion as a safe quest-reset procedure, and it can remove progress you may need.
- Do not assume there is a hidden abandon button. A Season 9 player explicitly reported being unable to find an option to quit the seasonal quest. The absence of a visible control is consistent with there being no universal abandon workflow.
- Do not repeatedly abandon and reacquire the quest. The reports do not establish that cycling the quest repairs server-side state. Repeating it can make it harder to identify the original failure and may remove useful context from your support request.
- Do not treat a difficulty workaround as a rule. Hard, Torment I, and Penitent were mentioned in individual reports. They are not documented requirements for every seasonal quest.
- Do not keep changing unrelated settings. Use one controlled change at a time so you know which action preceded any recovery or new symptom.
What to include in a Blizzard support or bug report
A complete report lets support distinguish a local display problem from a progression or patch issue. Provide:
- The seasonal quest name and the exact objective that will not advance.
- Your character name or character ID, with confirmation that the character is seasonal.
- Platform and region, if the support form requests them.
- Current difficulty and the difficulty used when the problem first appeared.
- Whether the campaign was completed or skipped.
- Whether you were solo or in a party when the error appeared.
- The exact error text, such as “Cannot progress due to party’s progression.”
- What remains visible: journal entry, pin, map marker, NPC, or objective text.
- The sequence you already tried: leaving the area, returning to town, unpinning and repinning, relogging, changing town, and any single difficulty change.
- When the problem began and whether it followed a game patch.
Keep the report factual. Say that a workaround restored a marker only if it actually did so on your character, and label an unresolved case as unresolved. A screenshot of the objective or error can help when the text is difficult to reproduce.
A decision path for specific symptoms
The quest is in the journal but has no map marker
- Leave the activity and return to town.
- Unpin and repin the quest.
- Relog from character select.
- Check the seasonal realm and campaign state.
- Test one difficulty change and relog.
- If the marker remains absent, report the quest and the last difficulty tested.
The NPC or interaction target is missing
- Verify that the quest is pinned and that its prerequisite campaign state is complete or skipped.
- Change towns once, then relog.
- Return to the location and check the objective again.
- If the NPC is still absent, submit the location, objective, character, realm, platform, and patch timing to Blizzard.
The objective says party progression even when solo
- Leave the current area and return to town.
- Relog to character select with the same seasonal character.
- Confirm that no party member is connected and repeat the objective once.
- If the message persists, stop changing World Tiers repeatedly and report the exact error. The “Taste of Power” report remained unresolved after those kinds of local attempts.
The quest vanished after an update
- Relog once and verify the seasonal realm.
- Check the journal and map for the quest name rather than relying only on a notification.
- Record the patch timing and whether the quest disappeared for one character or all characters you can check.
- Submit a bug report or support request; a patch-related disappearance may require a game fix.
Quick checklist before you contact support
- Returned to a town after leaving the dungeon or event.
- Unpinned and repinned the seasonal quest.
- Logged out to character select and back in.
- Verified the character is seasonal.
- Verified campaign completion or skip where required.
- Tested no more than one difficulty change, followed by a relog.
- Captured the exact objective, error text, NPC or marker status, platform, difficulty, and patch timing.
If all of those checks are complete and the quest is still blocked, there is no evidence-based universal abandon procedure to perform safely. Preserve the character and escalate the case with the recorded details.
