To reset a saved Wi-Fi connection on a Fire TV Stick, forget the network and reconnect: open Settings > Network, highlight the saved network, press Menu, then press Select/OK to forget it. Select the network again and enter its password. This removes the saved connection; it is not a factory reset and does not change your router password or Amazon account.
Before you change the saved connection
Make sure the Wi-Fi network is available to another device, and have the correct network name and password ready. Forgetting the network removes its saved credentials from the Fire TV Stick, so you will need the password to reconnect. Amazon’s Wi-Fi troubleshooting instructions describe the forget-and-reconnect procedure.
How to forget and reconnect to Wi-Fi
- From the Fire TV home screen, open Settings > Network.
- Highlight the Wi-Fi network the Fire TV Stick is using.
- Press the remote’s Menu button, then press Select/OK to forget the network.
- Select the same network from the list and enter its password.
Remote button names and menu wording can vary by device and software version. Follow the equivalent on-screen prompt if your remote labels the confirmation button differently.

1. Check Network Status
If an Unable to Connect screen appears, choose Network Diagnostics. Otherwise, open Settings > Network, highlight the network, and press Play/Pause to open status on supported devices. The Fire TV Network Status tool can help distinguish a failure between the Fire TV and router from a router-to-internet problem, and may show recommendations. Some compatible devices also provide details such as download speed, data usage, or a repeatable speed test; those options are not available on every model.
2. Restart the Fire TV Stick
For general Wi-Fi troubleshooting, Amazon advises disconnecting the Fire TV’s power, waiting 10 seconds, then reconnecting it. Allow it to restart before testing Wi-Fi again.

5. Restart the modem and router
Unplug both devices and wait one minute. Reconnect the modem first and wait about a minute for internet connectivity; then reconnect the router and wait about a minute. These are Amazon’s suggested intervals, not a guarantee that every provider’s equipment will be ready within that time. If several devices cannot get online, check for a broader network or provider outage rather than treating the Fire TV as the only problem.
6. Consider a factory reset only after these steps
Amazon places factory reset after diagnostics, restarting the Fire TV, toggling Wi-Fi, forgetting and reconnecting to the network, and restarting the modem and router. A factory reset is separate from forgetting Wi-Fi and is a broader troubleshooting escalation. Consult the official reset instructions for your exact Fire TV model before proceeding; the Wi-Fi guidance does not establish the reset sequence or its full consequences for every model.

If the Fire TV is still in setup
If the desired Wi-Fi network does not appear during setup, press Back to refresh the network list. Amazon’s setup-specific Wi-Fi troubleshooting advises restarting the Fire TV, then restarting network equipment and moving the Fire TV and router closer if possible. In that setup context, Amazon says to wait one minute when restarting the Fire TV; its general Wi-Fi troubleshooting instead specifies a 10-second power disconnect. Use the interval for the situation you are troubleshooting.

When the problem appears to be signal or coverage
If the Fire TV connects near the router but struggles at its usual location, distance or interference may be involved. Amazon recommends moving the Fire TV and router closer where possible. For broader coverage or performance issues, Amazon also discusses capable Wi-Fi 6E-or-higher routers or mesh systems for larger homes, but these are optional network considerations—not a remedy required to forget and re-enter a saved password.
Amazon’s guidance also suggests using the same network name (SSID) across the router’s 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands so a Fire TV can select a band based on signal strength. Router capabilities and Fire TV support vary, so check the options available on your equipment before changing band or SSID settings.
