Research Toast, Inc. (NYSE: TOST) by starting with its latest SEC filings, then tracking location growth, payment volume, revenue mix, profitability, cash generation, risks, and valuation across multiple periods. Toast’s Q2 fiscal 2026 results show growth, but those historical figures are not a current valuation or a recommendation to buy or sell.
Start with Toast’s latest filings
Use Toast’s investor-relations results page to identify the latest reported quarter, then read the matching Form 10-Q and the most recent Form 10-K. As of the company’s Q2 fiscal 2026 reporting, its 10-Q covered the three and six months ended June 30, 2026. Verify the period again when you research: later filings may supersede these results. Toast combines restaurant and retail software, payment processing, financial technology services, and hardware. Its measures are linked: adding locations can expand the installed base; customer sales processed through Toast contribute to gross payment volume (GPV); and GPV generally drives financial technology solutions revenue. Product adoption and subscription services are another part of growth. The key question is whether expansion and adoption produce durable gross profit, cash generation, and GAAP earnings—not simply whether the platform is getting larger.

The following are company-reported Q2 fiscal 2026 figures for the quarter or date shown. They are historical disclosures, not forecasts. Toast cautions that interim results do not necessarily indicate results for the full year or future interim periods.

Build a multi-period picture of growth and economics
Put the operating measures beside the financial statements for several quarters and years. A compact spreadsheet can make it easier to distinguish a growing business from a business whose growth is translating into stronger economics.

- Locations and customer retention: Track the company-defined Location count, additions, churn, and customer expansion where disclosed. Location growth indicates scale, but does not by itself prove profitable customer economics.
- Payment volume and revenue: Follow GPV, Toast Processing Locations, financial technology solutions revenue, and associated costs. Consider whether GPV growth reflects a larger installed base, higher customer sales, or both.
- Subscriptions: Compare subscription revenue growth and gross profit with total business growth. Rising subscription revenue is useful context, not a standalone measure of overall profitability.
- Hardware and professional services: Track this category separately so its smaller contribution does not obscure changes in the larger revenue streams.
- Profit and cash: Review GAAP income, operating cash flow, capital expenditures, stock-based compensation, capitalized software, and working-capital movements. Adjusted EBITDA and ARR do not replace GAAP results.
- Share count: Examine diluted shares over time, including the effects of stock-based compensation, repurchases, and other changes. Revenue or earnings growth per share can differ from growth in the underlying totals.
Account for seasonality and business risks
Toast says financial technology revenue is largely driven by GPV and is seasonal. Historically, revenue per Toast Processing Location has been stronger in the second and third quarters, when customer sales may be higher in warmer months; the effect varies by region. Compare like quarters across years and avoid treating a strong Q2 as a normalized run rate. Toast’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q also discusses exposure to global financial, economic, and political events, inflation and interest rates, tariffs, consumer spending, and restaurant operations.

The same filing reported no material changes to the risk factors in Toast’s 2025 annual report, while noting that other risks may arise and historical results may not predict future performance. Its forward-looking-statement section cautions: “You should not rely upon forward-looking statements as predictions of future events.”

A share price or valuation multiple is meaningful only with a date and a defined denominator. First choose a market-price date, then calculate or verify market capitalization and enterprise value using consistent, current inputs. Compare those figures with a clearly defined measure—such as earnings, gross profit, or cash flow—and, if using peers, explain why they are comparable.

The Q2 2026 filing does not establish a live share price, market capitalization, enterprise value, current valuation multiple, analyst expectations, or peer valuations. Do not infer that Toast is cheap or expensive from revenue growth, ARR, or a single quarter’s earnings alone.

Use a repeatable research checklist
- Open Toast’s latest Form 10-Q and Form 10-K through the SEC filing and note each filing’s period end and filing date.
- Read the business overview and management discussion, then inspect the financial statements, cash-flow statement, and risk factors.
- Build a time series for Locations, GPV, subscription revenue, financial technology solutions revenue, hardware revenue, GAAP net income, operating cash flow, capital expenditures, and diluted shares.
- Check Toast’s definitions before comparing ARR or other non-GAAP or operational measures with peers. ARR is an operating measure, not a forecast of future revenue.
- Choose a market-price date and a comparable valuation measure before drawing a valuation conclusion.
- Write down what supports an investment thesis, what could weaken it, and what remains unknown; do not turn company growth figures into an unsupported buy-or-sell claim.
