Yes, you can ask for a refund, but a Sega game’s delisting does not automatically create a refund entitlement. Submit the request to the storefront that charged you, not usually to Sega. Explain when you bought the game, when it disappeared, what access or feature stopped working, and the remedy you want. Steam, PlayStation Store, and Xbox/Microsoft Store apply different eligibility tests, while consumer law in your country may provide additional rights.
Keep your receipt, transaction ID, platform account, and evidence of the delisting before you start. A clear factual record gives a support agent something specific to review, especially when the purchase is outside the storefront’s normal time limit.
What a delisting changes—and what it does not
When a game is removed from a store, new customers can no longer buy it there. That is different from removing an existing entitlement. In many cases the title remains in the purchaser’s library and can still be downloaded; in other cases a download link, license check, online feature, or promised functionality may fail. The result determines how you should describe the problem.
Valve’s retirement guidance says purchases remain covered by the normal Steam refund policy, although Valve may offer refunds when a developer retires a game. PlayStation and Microsoft likewise assess requests under their own digital-content rules. Therefore, do not write that a delisting itself guarantees approval. Ask for a review and identify the concrete loss of access, a fault, or inaccurate store information.

First identify who processed the payment
Look at the receipt or bank statement. A purchase made through Steam, PlayStation Store, or Xbox/Microsoft Store should normally be handled by that storefront because it controls the transaction record and refund mechanism. Contact Sega directly when you bought from Sega itself, or when the storefront tells you that publisher-specific information is required.
Use the account and country that made the purchase. Store rules, payment options, and statutory rights can vary by region, so a policy shown for another country may not apply to you.

The table describes the published baseline, not a promise that every delisted Sega title will be approved. Keep the wording of your request tied to the facts of your transaction.

Gather the following in one folder or note. Screenshots should show the date where possible, and files should be readable without an agent having to infer what happened.
- The exact Sega title, edition, platform, and region.
- Your platform account name or sign-in email, without sending a password.
- Receipt, order number, transaction ID, purchase date, price, and payment method.
- A screenshot or store page address showing that the title is no longer offered for sale.
- The error message, failed-download notice, missing-library entry, or broken entitlement.
- The date you first noticed the problem and the date you contacted support.
- A short statement of the remedy you want: a refund to the original method, a wallet credit where that is the available option, or another remedy offered under local law.
Do not send unrelated account data or a full payment-card number. If support asks for verification, use only the secure upload or form it provides.
Steam: submit the request through Steam Help
Standard eligibility
Steam’s published standard is a request within 14 days of purchase with less than two hours of play. That is the clearest route for a recent purchase. A delisting does not reset the clock, and downloading a game is not the same as playing it for the purpose of the two-hour limit.

Step-by-step path
- Sign in to Steam Help with the account that owns the game.
- Open Purchases and select the Sega title.
- Choose the problem that best describes the situation.
- Select I’d like to request a refund.
- Choose Steam Wallet or the original payment method, then submit the form.
In the explanation, give the purchase date, the date you observed the retirement, and the practical consequence. For example, say that the game no longer appears in the store and that you cannot redownload it from your library, rather than simply writing “delisted.” Attach the error or missing-download screenshot.
Older purchases or more than two hours played
Valve says requests outside its 14-day or two-hour criteria can still be submitted for review. Use the same workflow and explain why the normal rule does not address your situation: a failed entitlement, loss of a promised feature, or another specific defect. State how much you played only if it helps the reviewer understand the timeline; never guess.
If the title was formally retired
Describe the retirement and the resulting loss in separate sentences. Steam’s retirement guidance says all purchases remain under the normal refund policy and notes that Valve may offer refunds when a developer retires a game. That language supports asking for discretionary review, not claiming an automatic entitlement.
PlayStation Store: use Transaction History
Standard checklist
For games and downloadable content, PlayStation’s normal rule is a request within 14 days and no download or streaming. The exception is faulty content. If you downloaded the Sega game, identify the actual defect or loss of promised access instead of relying on the delisting alone.
Step-by-step path
- Open your PlayStation account’s Transaction History.
- Select the transaction for the Sega game.
- Choose Request Refund and follow the on-screen questions.
- Describe the delisting, the access problem, and the date you first encountered it.
- Submit any requested evidence and save the confirmation or case reference.
If the transaction is not shown, check that you are using the purchasing account and the correct regional store. If self-service cannot find an eligible transaction, use the PlayStation Support route in the same refund guide and provide the order number manually.

Downloaded content and faulty-game claims
PlayStation’s no-download condition is aimed at ordinary change-of-mind requests. A downloaded game can still warrant review when it is faulty or when the seller’s information no longer matches what was purchased. Explain exactly what fails: for example, a missing entitlement, an inability to launch after an ownership check, or a feature that was represented as included but is no longer available. Include reproducible steps and the relevant error text.

Timing and payment method
PlayStation says refunds may take 30–60 days. If the original payment method cannot receive the refund, the store may credit the PlayStation wallet instead. Keep the confirmation until the money or credit appears, and contact support with the case reference if that period passes.
Xbox and Microsoft Store: use the digital-game refund form
Step-by-step path
- Open Microsoft’s Xbox digital-game refund page and sign in with the account that bought the game.
- Select the Sega item from the list of purchases.
- Choose Request a refund.
- Enter the reason, including the purchase date, the evidence of delisting, and the access or functionality problem.
- Select Next, review the details, and submit.
Microsoft says a request may take up to 72 hours to process. Save the submission confirmation and any case number.
How Microsoft evaluates the request
Microsoft states that digital goods are not refundable unless the offer or applicable law makes the customer eligible. It also notes that online returns are not available in every market. The form is therefore a case-by-case request, not a guaranteed result triggered by a store removal.
Use the description field to connect the facts: “I purchased this title on [date]. It was removed from sale on [date or evidence]. I can no longer [download, launch, or use the specified feature].” If the form is unavailable or rejects the request without addressing the problem, contact Xbox or Microsoft support and provide the saved transaction details.
When Sega itself is the seller
SEGA’s end-user licence agreement says that if you reject the agreement within 14 days after purchasing the product, you may contact Sega customer service to inquire about a full refund. The same agreement says digital content is made available immediately after the order is accepted. Those statements do not replace a storefront’s rules when Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox processed the payment.
For a direct Sega purchase, quote the order number and the relevant EULA timing in your customer-service request. For a platform purchase, start with the platform and mention Sega only as the publisher whose title was removed.

Write a request that an agent can act on
Use a chronological, neutral explanation. Avoid accusations, repeated policy quotations, or a demand that delisting automatically qualifies. The following template keeps the essential facts together; replace the bracketed fields inside the code block.

I purchased [exact Sega title and edition] on [date] through [Steam, PlayStation Store, or Xbox] using account [account identifier]. The transaction ID is [ID]. The title was removed from sale, as shown by [screenshot or store-page address], and I can no longer [describe the failed download, launch, entitlement, or feature]. I first noticed this on [date]. Please review this refund request under your store policy and any consumer-law rights that apply in [country/region]. I am requesting [refund to the original payment method or available wallet credit].Attach only evidence that supports those sentences. If the game still launches and all purchased functions work, say so; a truthful request is easier to evaluate than an overbroad claim.

Check the account and transaction
Confirm the platform account, region, edition, and transaction ID. A common cause of a missing transaction is signing in with a family, secondary, or different regional account. Do not create a second request with contradictory dates; correct the record and refer to the original case number.
Ask for human review
When a form applies only the standard time or download rule, submit the case anyway if the service allows an explanation, then request support review. Point to the specific loss of access or fault and include the evidence list. On Steam, explicitly ask for review outside the published limits; on PlayStation, use Support when Transaction History cannot produce a refund option; on Xbox, preserve the case number and ask support to review an unavailable or declined digital-game form.
Use local consumer-law rights
Store policies are not the only possible source of rights. Depending on your country, digital content that is faulty, not supplied as described, or no longer usable may be covered by consumer law. Tell the storefront where you live and describe the defect or missing service factually. Do not cite a legal remedy unless you know it applies to your jurisdiction; ask the relevant consumer authority or a qualified adviser if the amount is significant.

The game vanished from the store but is still in your library
Explain that the purchase remains listed but identify the exact action that fails, such as a download button that produces an error or an ownership check that will not complete. If nothing fails, ask support to confirm continued access rather than asserting a refund entitlement based solely on the listing’s removal.

You bought the game years ago
Provide the original date and transaction ID. The normal storefront windows may have passed, but Steam accepts out-of-window requests for review, and local law may offer a separate remedy for faulty digital content. Focus on what changed recently and why the original purchase no longer delivers the represented access.
You downloaded or streamed the PlayStation version
State that fact and then describe the concrete fault or loss of promised access. A simple change-of-mind explanation generally does not satisfy PlayStation’s no-download condition, while a documented fault may be reviewed under its exception.
The Xbox form does not list the item
Verify the Microsoft account and region, save a screenshot of the missing transaction or delisting, and contact Xbox/Microsoft support with the receipt and order number. Ask for a case number so later messages remain attached to the same request.

Follow the payment trail. The company named on the receipt is the first contact for a refund. Sega can clarify publisher information or handle a purchase made directly from Sega, but it normally cannot reverse a transaction processed by another storefront.
What outcome to expect
Possible outcomes include a refund to the original payment method, a platform-wallet credit when that method is unavailable, a request for additional evidence, or a denial under the store’s policy. None of the published policies guarantees approval for every delisted title. Your strongest case is one that identifies the transaction, proves the listing or entitlement changed, documents the resulting problem, and states a remedy that the storefront can actually issue.
