Delisting normally stops new sales; it does not automatically cancel a purchase you already own. SEGA Support’s notice, updated November 19, 2025, says the affected SEGA Classics games and bundles will leave virtual stores but remain in existing owners’ libraries for download and play. A refund is a separate decision made by the store that processed your payment. Use the platform-specific process below, provide complete order details, and do not assume that delisting alone guarantees approval.

What a Sega delisting changes—and what it does not

SEGA’s November 19, 2025 support notice concerns selected SEGA Classics games and bundles on Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. It says those products become “unavailable for new purchases” starting December 6 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time. The same notice says, “Your owned games will still be available in your library,” and that existing owners can continue to download and play them.

That creates two separate questions:

  • Can you still access a game you bought? According to SEGA’s notice, an owned copy remains associated with your library and should remain downloadable and playable.
  • Can you get your money back? The answer depends on Steam, PlayStation Store, Microsoft/Xbox, or Nintendo eShop rules, plus any consumer rights that apply where you live.

If the title is still visible in your library, a delisting by itself is not evidence that your license disappeared. First check your library and download history. If the game is missing, a download fails, or the content is defective, document that specific problem in your support request rather than describing the situation only as “the game was delisted.”

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A delisted listing and a deleted entitlement are not the same event. The store page can disappear from search while an install button, purchase record, cloud entitlement or download entry remains. Conversely, a title can be listed as owned but fail during download or launch. Support needs to know which of those situations applies to you. Take a screenshot of the library entry, the failed download or the error message before changing accounts or reinstalling anything.

Refund rules at a glance

Store Where to request Published standard Download, streaming or play restriction Faulty-content or local-law qualification Typical processing information
Steam Steam Help > Purchases Within 14 days of purchase and under two hours of playtime Online, offline and shared-library playtime count toward the two-hour limit Requests outside the standard rule can still be submitted for review; EU/UK statutory withdrawal for digital content generally ends after 14 days or when downloading starts, whichever is sooner Confirmation is sent when submitted and again when processed
PlayStation Store Transaction History > transaction > Request Refund Games and DLC normally within 14 days Content must not have been downloaded or streamed Faulty-content and local-law exceptions may apply Approved refunds may take 30–60 days and normally return to the original payment method, or to wallet funds when that is not possible
Xbox/Microsoft Store Microsoft’s digital-game refund request flow Eligibility is determined under Microsoft/Xbox Digital Game Purchase Refund Terms Requirements and availability vary by market and item Use the request form and explain any failed download, loss of access or defect Requests may take up to 72 hours to process; approved refunds generally take 3–5 business days to reach the original payment option
Nintendo eShop Nintendo Support Nintendo’s published support article says mistaken downloaded purchases are not refundable or exchangeable No general Steam-style 14-day/two-hour guarantee is stated Contact support about an unresolved fault or loss of access; the published rule does not promise a delisting exception Not stated in Nintendo’s cited support guidance

These are policy descriptions, not approval guarantees. Store terms can vary by country, product type, payment method and account history.

Before you submit a request

Confirm whether the game is actually inaccessible

Open the library for the account that made the purchase. A removed store listing may still leave an install button, download entry or owned-games record. Check the account, console profile and region used for the original transaction. If you can download and launch the game, explain that fact accurately; do not claim a loss of access that has not occurred.

Check both the platform library and the transaction history. A bundle may show under the bundle name rather than the individual game name, and a PC purchase may appear in Microsoft Store records instead of an Xbox console list. If another family member purchased the item, the account that owns the transaction—not merely the account that played it—usually has to submit the request.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Collect the transaction record

  • Storefront and device: Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Microsoft Store for PC, or Nintendo eShop.
  • Exact Sega title, edition and bundle name.
  • Order or transaction number.
  • Purchase date and payment method.
  • Date you first learned of the delisting.
  • Whether the title is still listed in your library.
  • Whether you downloaded, streamed, launched or played it, and approximately when.
  • A concise description of any failed download, error message, defect or loss of access.

Attach a receipt or transaction-history screenshot when the form allows it. Redact unrelated payment information, but leave the order number, date, product and amount readable. Save the original receipt separately in case the support page accepts only one attachment.

Describe the timeline, not just the outcome

A useful explanation states: “I purchased [title] on [date]. It was delisted on or around [date]. It is [still in my library / no longer available to download]. I [did/did not] download or play it. Please review whether a refund is available under your policy.” This gives support the facts needed to distinguish a normal delisting from a failed entitlement or defective product.

If you are asking outside a standard deadline, explain why the timing matters without overstating it: you bought the game before the December 6 delisting, then discovered a missing download or defect afterward. Ask for a review rather than asserting that the date creates an automatic refund right.

How to request a Steam refund

Understand Steam’s normal eligibility rule

Valve’s standard policy accepts requests made within 14 days of purchase when the game has less than two hours of playtime. Online, offline and shared-library playtime all count. A later delisting does not restart the 14-day clock. If you bought the game long before it was removed, the request is outside the normal window, but Valve says you may still submit it for review.

The two-hour calculation concerns playtime recorded by Steam, not merely the time since installation. If you tested the game offline and Steam later synchronized that activity, include the most accurate total you can. Do not omit shared-library use if it appears in the account’s play record.

Submit the request

  1. Open Steam Help and sign in to the purchasing account.
  2. Choose Purchases.
  3. Select the Sega game or bundle.
  4. Choose the problem that best describes your situation.
  5. Select I’d like to request a refund.
  6. Complete the explanation, including the purchase date, delisting date, access status and playtime.
  7. Choose Steam Wallet or the original payment method when offered.
  8. Submit the form and keep the confirmation message.

For an old purchase, ask for a discretionary review and explain the sequence plainly: purchase, subsequent delisting, and any current inability to download or use the content. Do not describe the request as automatically eligible. Valve’s policy permits review outside the stated limits but does not promise approval.

EU and UK digital-content rights

Valve explains that statutory withdrawal for digital content in the EU and United Kingdom generally ends 14 days after purchase or when downloading starts, whichever is sooner. That statutory rule is separate from Steam’s voluntary 14-day/two-hour refund policy. Other local consumer protections may also apply, particularly when content is faulty or not supplied as promised.

Because statutory rights depend on facts and jurisdiction, give the country tied to the transaction and describe any defect precisely. A delisting alone is not the same as a product being faulty or unavailable to an existing owner.

How to request a PlayStation Store refund

Check the transaction first

  1. Open Transaction History for the PlayStation account that paid for the game.
  2. Select the Sega transaction.
  3. Choose Request Refund.
  4. Follow the on-screen questions and submit the request.

If the automated option does not appear or fails, contact PlayStation Support or use its online assistant. Have the transaction ID and account information ready.

PlayStation’s game and DLC conditions

PlayStation’s checklist generally requires a request within 14 days of purchase and says the game or DLC must not have been downloaded or streamed. Faulty content can be treated differently, and PlayStation notes that local law may provide additional rights. A delisting, without a download failure or defect, is not identified in the published checklist as an automatic exception.

That means you should not download or stream the content while deciding whether to submit a routine request if you are still inside the normal window. If you already did so, report it honestly; the support team can assess whether a faulty-content or local-law route applies.

After approval

PlayStation says an approved refund may take 30–60 days. It normally goes back to the original payment method; when that is not possible, PlayStation may credit the wallet. The processing period is separate from the time it takes support to decide the request.

How to request an Xbox or Microsoft Store refund

Use the digital-game refund flow

For Xbox purchases, Microsoft directs customers to its Request a refund for digital games page and the applicable Xbox Digital Game Purchase Refund Terms. For Microsoft Store PC games, the documented sequence is:

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft account that made the purchase.
  2. Select the Sega item.
  3. Choose Request a refund.
  4. Enter the reason and select Next.
  5. Verify the details.
  6. Select Submit.

Online returns are not available in all markets, and eligibility can differ by country and product. If the page does not offer a request, use the support route shown for your market rather than submitting a duplicate order or chargeback immediately.

What to write in the explanation

Include the title, edition or bundle, order number, purchase date, date you noticed the delisting, and whether the game is unavailable to download or merely unavailable to buy. State whether you downloaded, streamed or played it. If access is broken, describe the exact error and when it began. Ask for review under the applicable policy and request the original payment method where that option is allowed.

For a console purchase, identify the Xbox profile and console. For a Microsoft Store PC purchase, identify the Microsoft account and PC app or device involved. This helps support distinguish a licensing problem from a store-page change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Processing times

Microsoft says a request may take up to 72 hours to process. When approved, the refund generally takes 3–5 business days to reach the original payment option. These are published processing estimates, not a promise that every case will resolve within those periods.

How to approach a Nintendo eShop request

Nintendo’s published rule is restrictive

Nintendo’s support guidance for downloaded games and DLC says, “We are unable to provide refunds or exchanges for mistaken purchases.” It does not promise a special exception when a Sega title is delisted, and it does not provide Steam’s 14-day/two-hour guarantee.

Contact Nintendo Support for an unresolved problem

If the game cannot be downloaded, has disappeared from the purchasing account or is demonstrably faulty, contact Nintendo Support with the order number, title, account, console, purchase date and a description of the failure. Frame the contact as a request for support review, not as an assumed entitlement to a refund. Explain whether the problem is a mistaken purchase, a technical fault or loss of access; those are different situations.

If the game remains downloadable and playable, say so. A truthful access report gives support a clearer basis for deciding what remedy, if any, is available under the rules for your region. Keep the wording factual and avoid claiming that SEGA’s delisting notice overrides Nintendo’s own refund policy.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to do when the automated request is rejected

Check for a simple eligibility mismatch

  • Verify that you are signed in to the purchasing account, not a family or secondary account.
  • Confirm whether the item was a game, DLC, bundle, subscription benefit or physical purchase; each can have different terms.
  • Review download, streaming and play activity, because those events can close a platform’s standard window.
  • Check the purchase date, currency and region shown in the transaction record.
  • Make sure you selected the correct order when multiple editions have similar names.
  • Check whether the title is merely hidden from the storefront or actually absent from the library.

Escalate with evidence

Use the platform’s support channel when the automated form refuses the request or the game is missing from the library. Include the receipt, transaction-history screenshot, error text and a short timeline. Ask support to review the specific access or fault issue and cite the relevant local-law concern only when it genuinely applies. Avoid threats, repeated submissions and unsupported claims that delisting itself requires a refund.

If the first response says only that the request is outside policy, reply once with the missing facts: the order number, the date you discovered the issue, whether the game can still be downloaded, and any reproducible error. Keep every case number and response so a later agent can see the same chronology.

Do not start with a chargeback

A bank or card chargeback is a separate process and can place an account or payment relationship at risk. Use the storefront’s support process first, unless your payment provider or local law gives you a specific reason to proceed otherwise. Keep copies of every case number and response.

Refund request checklist

  • Correct storefront, account and device identified.
  • Exact Sega title and edition or bundle recorded.
  • Order number, purchase date and payment method available.
  • Delisting date or the date you first learned of it noted.
  • Library status checked: downloadable, playable, missing or failing.
  • Download, stream and play history described accurately.
  • Error messages or defect evidence attached when relevant.
  • Request directed to the original payment method where the platform permits it.
  • Submission confirmation and support case number saved.

Key takeaways by platform

  • SEGA says affected owned Classics titles remain in the owner’s library for download and play; delisting normally removes the sale listing, not the entitlement.
  • Steam’s usual threshold is 14 days and under two hours, with an option to request an out-of-policy review.
  • PlayStation normally requires a request within 14 days and no download or streaming, subject to faulty-content and local-law exceptions.
  • Xbox and Microsoft use an online request flow, with market-dependent availability and published processing estimates.
  • Nintendo’s published rule excludes refunds or exchanges for mistaken downloaded purchases; unresolved access or fault problems should go to Nintendo Support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Sega delisting automatically qualify me for a refund?

No. SEGA says selected Classics titles become unavailable for new purchases while owned copies remain in the library. Refund eligibility is decided by the storefront that processed the payment.

Can I still play a Sega game after it is delisted?

SEGA’s November 19, 2025 notice says owned games remain available in the library for download and play. Check the purchasing account if the title is not visible.

Will Steam’s 14-day period restart when Sega delists the game?

No. Steam’s normal period runs from the purchase date. A later delisting does not restart it, although Valve says an out-of-policy request can still be submitted for review.

What if I downloaded or streamed the PlayStation version?

PlayStation’s normal checklist says games and DLC must not have been downloaded or streamed and the request should be within 14 days. Faulty-content and local-law exceptions may be different, so describe the facts accurately.

How long does an approved PlayStation refund take?

PlayStation says an approved refund may take 30–60 days and normally returns to the original payment method, or to wallet funds when that is not possible.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why can’t I submit an Xbox refund online?

Microsoft says online returns are not available in all markets. Check the Xbox Digital Game Purchase Refund Terms and use the support route shown for your country if the form is unavailable.

Does Nintendo offer a standard 14-day refund for a delisted game?

No such guarantee is stated in Nintendo’s cited guidance. Nintendo says mistaken downloaded purchases are not refundable or exchangeable and directs unresolved situations to Nintendo Support.

What evidence should I send to support?

Provide the storefront and device, exact title and edition, order number, purchase date, payment method, delisting date or discovery date, library status, download or play history, and any error or defect evidence. Attach a receipt or transaction screenshot when permitted.

The Bottom Line

Start with the store, not the delisting announcement. Confirm whether the Sega game is still in your library, gather the order record and describe any actual access failure. Steam allows an out-of-policy review, PlayStation has a 14-day/no-download standard with faulty-content and local-law qualifications, Microsoft uses a market-dependent online process, and Nintendo’s published rule is restrictive. None of the cited policies promises a refund solely because Sega removed the game from sale.
