To report an unsafe or harmful AI response, open the options on that specific answer, choose the closest safety, offensive-content, or abuse reason, and briefly explain the risk. If the service has no suitable in-product control, use its official support route or reporting form. Check what the report will include before submitting: it may send conversation history or related files and account-connected content, not just the displayed answer.
The right route depends on the product and the kind of concern. A thumbs-down for an unhelpful answer, a safety or abuse report, and a legal-content complaint are not interchangeable. The steps below cover ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini Apps, and Gemini in Workspace apps; other chatbot services may use different controls.
Choose the right kind of report
Chatbot interfaces often offer several ways to react to an answer. The right choice depends on whether the problem is ordinary answer quality, a safety concern, or a legal complaint. A report should identify the response and the issue without treating every mistake as abuse.

Use a safety or abuse report for the concerning content itself, rather than relying only on a general rating. Conversely, do not use a legal-content form for an ordinary quality complaint. The available labels differ by product and can change, so use the closest current option rather than assuming every chatbot uses the same categories.

There is also a practical difference in where reports go. ChatGPT offers an in-product report and a separate web form for specified content types. Claude safety issues can be emailed to Anthropic, while material in a shared Claude conversation has a standalone form. Gemini Apps uses response feedback for an individual answer and a separate legal-issue option; Gemini in Workspace apps has a Report abuse control. These routes are not evidence that one provider is faster or more likely to act than another.
How do I report an unsafe ChatGPT response?
OpenAI’s documented in-product route on web and iOS or Android starts at the specific response:
- Select the thumbs-down control below the response.
- Select Select an issue.
- Choose Safety or Legal concern.
- Follow the prompts to submit the report.
Starting from the answer matters: it associates your report with the specific output rather than leaving the provider to guess which response you mean. In the prompts, describe the safety or legal concern in clear, concise terms. Include only the additional context needed to understand why the answer is concerning.

Use that form if the in-product option is unavailable or the content you need to report is among the types it covers. The in-product route is not a substitute for a dedicated intellectual-property complaint: use an intellectual-property form only when the concern is specifically copyright, trademark, or counterfeit content.
In other words, first match the channel to the material. If the issue is a harmful answer in your own conversation, use the response control where possible. If you need to report one of the other covered content types, or cannot access the response control, check the content-reporting form. A general quality complaint does not become an intellectual-property claim simply because content is involved.
How can I report a harmful Claude answer?
Anthropic’s Claude Help Center directs users to report safety issues to usersafety@anthropic.com. Include enough detail for the company to understand and reproduce the issue. Keep the report centered on the concerning output and the context needed to make sense of it; avoid sending unrelated conversation material.
A useful email can identify the answer, explain briefly what makes it unsafe, and provide the prompt or surrounding exchange if that context is necessary to reproduce or interpret the problem. The key is enough detail to make the issue understandable, not a large amount of unrelated chat history.

If the content is within a shared Claude conversation, Anthropic provides a standalone reporting form for that content. Use the route that matches what you are reporting: an email for a safety issue, or the form for content in a shared conversation. If you are unsure whether the material qualifies as shared-conversation content, consult Anthropic’s current help information rather than assuming the two routes are identical.

Where is the report button in Gemini?
Gemini Apps
For a particular Gemini Apps response, select Bad response using the thumbs-down control. You can choose a reason such as Offensive / Unsafe, add feedback, and submit. For a legal complaint, use Report legal issue, which is distinct from the response-feedback route.
To report a general issue with Gemini Apps on the web, use Settings & help → Send feedback. Mobile menus can vary by app and operating system, so look for the current feedback or reporting control in the app if that path does not match your screen.
When the concern is one answer, use that answer’s Bad response control and select the closest available reason. When your concern is a legal complaint, use Report legal issue rather than treating ordinary feedback as a legal notice. If the problem is a general issue with the app rather than one particular response, the web feedback path may be more appropriate.

Gemini in Workspace apps
For an inaccurate or unsafe response in a Gemini Workspace app, choose Report abuse beside the answer. If you do not see the control, check More options. Select a reason and submit. Google distinguishes this abuse-reporting action from general feedback, which uses Good suggestion or Bad suggestion controls.
That distinction is useful when deciding where to click: use Report abuse for a response you believe is abusive or otherwise merits an abuse report; use Good suggestion or Bad suggestion to provide ordinary product feedback. Google describes abuse reports as including examples such as spam, fraud, or illegal content. Those examples help explain the report category, but they do not mean every inaccurate answer is abuse.
Will my conversation be sent with my report?
It may be. Google says Gemini Apps feedback includes the associated conversation, such as prompts and Gemini responses. The submission may also include uploaded files or images and personal content Gemini obtained from Connected Apps. Google says this information is handled consistently with its Privacy Policy. Work or school accounts may have limits on adding feedback or attachments.
Google also says a Gemini Workspace abuse report, for example about spam, fraud, or illegal content, includes the conversation, prompts, context documents or emails, and the Gemini response. That means a report can contain material beyond the answer visible beside the reporting control.
Before submitting any report, read the form’s attachment or data-sharing notice. If it shows conversation history, uploads, or connected-app material, check that this context is relevant and that you are comfortable sending it under the service’s applicable privacy terms. Do not assume that selecting one response sends only that response.

For Google products in particular, account context can matter. A Gemini Apps report may include Connected Apps content, and a Workspace abuse report may include documents or emails used as context. Work or school account settings can limit whether you can attach feedback or files. If the interface identifies material you did not expect to be included, pause and review the notice and available controls before submitting.
Do not assume that a report is anonymous, that submitted material will be deleted on request, or that only the named answer will be reviewed. The reporting instructions described here establish what some Gemini routes may include, but they do not make universal promises about anonymity or data retention for every provider. Review the relevant service’s privacy terms and submission screen.
What makes a report useful?
Provider instructions do not establish one universal evidence checklist. As a practical approach, give the service enough information to identify the output and understand the concern, while keeping the report focused.
- Point to the exact answer. Use the response’s own report control when available so the report is associated with the output in question.
- Describe the risk briefly. Explain what is dangerous, abusive, or otherwise harmful about the answer instead of submitting only a rating.
- Add necessary context. Include the prompt or surrounding exchange only to the extent it helps explain or reproduce the issue.
- Review what will be attached. Check whether the flow includes conversation history, uploaded material, or connected-app data before you send it.
Do not include unrelated sensitive details just to make a report longer. If the form already attaches a conversation, consider whether the surrounding context contains personal information that is not needed to understand the concern.
For example, if a response is unsafe because of how it answered a specific prompt, the prompt may be important context. If the answer is plainly harmful on its own, a short explanation may be enough. For Claude, Anthropic specifically asks users to include enough detail to reproduce a safety issue. For Google, the documented attachments can include broader context automatically, so check what is selected or included rather than adding duplicate material without need.
Keep the description factual. State what the answer said or did and why that creates a risk; avoid guessing at the chatbot’s intentions or asserting that a policy was definitely violated when you cannot tell. Select the nearest available category and explain the concern in your own words if the form allows it. A short, specific report is easier to understand than a long narrative containing unrelated messages.
What if the answer is wrong but not clearly unsafe?
Use ordinary feedback when the response is simply inaccurate, inappropriate, or unhelpful and you do not see a clear safety, abuse, or legal issue. Google cautions that Gemini Apps may produce inaccurate, offensive, or inappropriate information and recommends checking responses. Google also says not to rely on Gemini for medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice. A harmful-seeming response in a high-stakes area may merit a safety report, but a routine factual correction belongs in feedback if no policy or safety issue is apparent.

A wrong answer may also be dangerous if someone could act on it and be harmed. In that case, you can describe the risk and choose a safety-related option if the interface offers one. If it is a low-stakes error with no apparent abuse or danger, ordinary feedback is the better fit. A legal complaint is different again: use a legal route when you are making a legal complaint, not simply because an answer is wrong.

Should I use feedback or report abuse?
Use feedback to tell a provider that a response was poor, inaccurate, unclear, or not useful. Use a safety, offensive-content, or abuse category when the content itself raises a safety or policy concern. In Gemini Workspace apps, Google explicitly separates Report abuse from Good suggestion and Bad suggestion. Gemini Apps likewise has Bad response for feedback on an answer and a separate Report legal issue path for legal complaints.
If you are uncertain, describe the concrete problem rather than trying to diagnose the provider’s policy category. Choose the closest relevant option the interface offers. Do not submit multiple kinds of reports for the same issue unless the provider’s instructions indicate that more than one route is needed.
When a chatbot report is not enough
Provider feedback is not an emergency service. If a chatbot response relates to an immediate danger or an urgent medical, legal, or other real-world problem, contact appropriate local emergency services or a qualified professional rather than waiting for a platform report to be handled.

Keep a copy of any confirmation the interface provides, but do not treat submission as proof that content has been removed or that someone will respond.
