To report a spam, harassment, or scam message in Discord, right-click it on desktop or press and hold it on mobile, choose Report Message, then select the closest policy category. For a server-level response, you can also contact its moderators; that is separate from reporting the content to Discord.
How do I report someone in a Discord server?
Report the specific message if the problem is something a person posted. Discord’s Safety Center instructions, updated January 22, 2026, give these steps:
- Find the message you want to report.
- On desktop, right-click the message. On mobile, press and hold it.
- Select Report Message.
- Choose the policy violation that best fits. If another screen offers more specific categories, select the closest one. You can go back and change your first choice if needed.
Describe the conduct accurately. Discord prohibits misleading, false, or malicious reports, duplicate reports about the same issue, and coordinating a group to report the same content. Do not guess at someone’s motive or exaggerate what happened. Discord’s reporting instructions explain the in-app process.
What should I report as spam, harassment, or a scam?
Discord’s Community Guidelines, effective September 29, 2025, prohibit harassment, unsolicited bulk messages (spam), phishing, financial scams, threats, and sharing someone’s personal information without consent. They apply across Discord, including content, behavior, servers, and apps.

Choose the category that most closely describes what the message does. For example, report a deceptive link that tries to steal account details as phishing, or a message pushing an apparent financial fraud as a financial scam. If you are unsure which category fits, report the behavior plainly rather than selecting a more severe category without evidence.
Should I tell the server mods too?
Yes, if you want a response within that community. Discord recommends contacting the server’s moderators, who may be able to act locally; an in-app report alerts Discord to a suspected platform policy violation. These routes serve different purposes, and neither guarantees a particular outcome.

How do I report content on someone’s profile?
If the problem is represented in profile content rather than in a particular message, open the person’s profile, select the three-dot menu, and choose Report User Profile. Select the profile elements that are relevant (you can select more than one), then identify the policy violation. Use Report Message for a specific message and the profile flow for profile content, as described in Discord’s Safety Center guide.
Do I need a message link to report it?
For the ordinary in-app message-report flow described above, Discord’s instructions do not say that you must copy a message URL first. There is a separate process for reports under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA): EU users go through verification and provide report details, and a message URL is required for a DSA message report.

To copy a link for a DSA report, right-click the message or use its ellipsis menu on desktop and choose Copy Message Link. On mobile, press and hold the message and choose Copy Message Link. Keep this requirement specific to DSA reporting; it is not stated as a requirement for every in-app report worldwide.
How can I limit further contact?
Ignore or block the person
Discord’s Ignore feature hides a user’s messages and notifications in DMs, group chats, and servers, while still allowing you to reveal hidden messages. Discord says an ignored user cannot visually detect that they have been ignored. You can use Ignore after submitting a report; blocking is a separate option if you want to limit interaction more fully.

Filter spam DMs
To adjust the direct-message spam filter, go to User Settings > Content & Social. Discord’s Safer Messaging help article lists three choices: filter messages from non-friends (the stated default), filter all DMs, or do not filter DMs. This setting concerns suspected spam in direct messages; it does not replace reporting a message that violates Discord’s rules.

Server-owner option for explicit images
Server owners can configure an explicit-image filter under Server Settings > Moderation > Safety Setup. It can block messages that may contain explicit images in channels not marked age-restricted, and can apply to all members or only members without assigned roles. It is not a general spam or scam filter. Details are in Discord’s Safer Messaging on Discord article.

What if someone is in immediate danger?
Discord advises contacting local law enforcement if there is a credible threat of violence and someone is in immediate danger, or if someone is at immediate risk of self-harm. In the United States, its Safety Center lists Crisis Text Line: text DISCORD to 741741. Elsewhere, Discord points users to ThroughLine Care to find free, confidential chat, text, or phone support in their country. See Discord’s Safety Center guidance for these urgent situations.
What happens after a report?
Discord does not promise a particular enforcement outcome or a fixed response time for ordinary in-app reports. For EU DSA reports, Discord says it sends a system DM or email confirming receipt and uses automated and human review. Its stated targets are review within 24–48 hours for high-harm reports, such as child safety, extremism, or imminent harm, and within a week for lower-harm examples, such as harassment, hate speech, or cybercrime misinformation. Complex investigations may take days to weeks. Discord cautions that these DSA review times can fluctuate with process changes, report volume, technical problems, and backlogs; they are targets, not guarantees, and do not apply to every reporting route.
