Start by identifying the placement. A sponsored result, display unit, Shopping listing, YouTube promotion, or partner-site ad follows an advertising-report route. An ordinary, unpaid search result follows a separate search-quality route. On Google, use the ad’s More or Info control, My Ad Center, the Ads Transparency Center, or Google’s ad-report form. For a malicious Bing ad, use Microsoft Advertising’s Report a Concern form and provide the ad’s rlink, the search query, a screenshot, your country or region, and the relevant concern category.
Reporting is an escalation, not an instant takedown. Google says that reporting an ad does not block it, although it acknowledges reports by email and says its Trust & Safety team reviews them. The Microsoft form reviewed here does not promise a response time or a particular result.
First decide whether it is an ad
Look for a sponsored label, an advertiser name, or the controls that appear when you select the item. Google identifies ads across Google Search and Shopping, YouTube, and partner sites and apps. On a partner site or app, an AdChoices control can indicate that Google delivered the ad. Google’s advertising guidance explains its ad-reporting paths here: How to report an ad.

If you cannot establish that the item was sponsored, preserve a screenshot showing the page and its labels before leaving it, then use the route that matches the placement you can document.
| What you saw | Correct route | What to preserve |
|---|---|---|
| Sponsored Google Search or Shopping result, YouTube ad, or Google ad on a partner site or app | Google’s on-ad control, My Ad Center, Ads Transparency Center, or Google’s ad-report form | Screenshot, advertiser or ad text, page or app where it appeared, and a factual description of what happened |
| Sponsored Bing result or another ad on Microsoft properties or the Microsoft Advertising Network | Microsoft Advertising’s Report a Concern form | The ad’s rlink, search query, screenshot, country or region, and concern category |
| Ordinary, non-sponsored Google result | Google Search’s problem-report route; use the advertising route only when the result is actually sponsored | Result URL, query, screenshot, and the problem you observed |
| Ordinary, non-sponsored Bing result | Microsoft Support’s Bing concern route | The particular URL or information in the result and an explanation of the issue |
Google Search Help describes the distinction for phishing pages that appear as sponsored links, while Microsoft Support separates Bing search-result concerns from advertising support. See Report a problem with Google Search and How to report a concern or contact Bing.
Report a malicious Google ad
Use the control on the ad
Reporting while the ad is still visible usually gives you the clearest context. The exact control depends on where the ad appeared.
- On a Google service, locate the suspicious sponsored item and select its More or Info control.
- Choose Report ad.
- Select the reason that best matches what you observed and complete the form shown.
- Submit the report. Describe observable facts rather than guessing about the advertiser’s code or infrastructure.
On a Google partner site or app, select AdChoices, choose Why this ad?, then select Report ad. These labels and the partner-site flow are documented in Google My Ad Center Help: Report an ad.
Use My Ad Center when the ad has disappeared
If you closed the page or the ad rotated away, open My Ad Center and check Recently seen ads. Select the ad, open its details, and use the report option. This is useful when you remember seeing the ad but cannot reproduce it in the original search or video.

My Ad Center is also the place to review the ad’s identity and why it was shown. Do not alter prefilled report fields. If the ad appears to impersonate a company, site, or organization, include the impersonated site’s name as additional detail, because Google gives that kind of information as a useful example.
Use the Ads Transparency Center or Google’s form
Google also directs users to the Ads Transparency Center, where you can look up an advertiser and locate the ad, and to its standalone ad-report form. Use one of these routes when the in-product control is unavailable, the ad appeared in a context where the control is difficult to reach, or you need to investigate the advertiser identity before submitting.
Begin at Google’s official ad-reporting instructions and follow the currently displayed link to the form. Forms and labels can change, so use the live page rather than an old bookmarked form.

Describe malicious behavior accurately
Google’s malicious-software policy covers more than an obvious fake download. Its examples include an ad that forces a redirect to an unknown malware-infected site without requiring an ad click and an HTML5 ad that steals credentials from a publisher page. The policy is at Malicious Software.

You do not need to diagnose the underlying code. State what you saw: for example, “Selecting the sponsored result redirected the browser to a page asking for account credentials,” or “The page redirected without an ad click.” Include the destination domain exactly as displayed if it is safe to do so, and explain whether the behavior occurred once or repeatedly. Avoid claiming that a file is malware unless you have evidence; “the page displayed a malware warning” is more precise than a technical diagnosis you cannot verify.
Report a malicious Bing ad through Microsoft Advertising
Open the Report a Concern form
For low-quality or infringing ads on Microsoft properties or the Microsoft Advertising Network, use Microsoft Advertising’s Report a Concern form: https://about.ads.microsoft.com/en/forms/policies/report-spam-form. Microsoft uses “malvertising” for ads with malicious intent to harm or defraud users.
This is the direct route for a suspicious paid Bing ad. It is not the same as sending a general complaint about an unpaid URL through Bing Search support.
Copy the ad’s rlink, not the display URL
The form asks for the ad’s rlink from the Bing results page. Microsoft specifically distinguishes this tracking destination from the visible display URL.
- Return to the Bing results page while the ad is visible.
- Right-click the ad title.
- Choose Copy Link.
- Paste the copied value into the form’s rlink field.
Do not type the domain you remember seeing in the ad unless the form separately asks for it. The copied rlink gives Microsoft the ad reference it requests and helps distinguish the paid listing from another page that happened to use the same domain.

Complete every useful context field
Enter the exact search query that produced the ad. Upload a screenshot showing the ad, its sponsored label, and enough of the results page to establish where it appeared. Select the concern that matches your evidence, such as Fraud, phishing or scam or Virus, spyware or malware. The form reviewed requires a country or region; a contact email is optional.
Keep the wording concrete. Explain what the ad promised, what happened after selecting it, whether a warning or credential request appeared, and any destination that differed from the visible advertiser message. If you did not click the ad but it appeared to redirect or display harmful content, say exactly that instead of inferring why it happened.

Review the rlink, query, screenshot, country or region, and category before submitting. Save a copy of your description and the submission confirmation if one is provided. The Microsoft form reviewed does not state a guaranteed response time or removal outcome, so do not interpret the absence of an immediate change as confirmation that the complaint was rejected.
When the suspicious item is an organic result
Google Search
An unpaid result that leads to phishing or another harmful site is a search-quality or safety concern, not an ad report. Use Google Search’s reporting route at Report a problem with Google Search. If the same page appears with a sponsored label, switch to Google’s advertising route so the complaint reaches the appropriate ad-review process.
Bing Search
Microsoft Support’s Bing concern page handles particular URLs or other information in search results. It cautions that submitting a concern does not necessarily remove a URL. For a paid ad, use Microsoft Advertising’s Report a Concern form instead of assuming the general Bing route is an equivalent ad escalation. The separation is explained in Microsoft’s Bing support guidance.
Build an evidence package before you submit
A clear report lets the platform reproduce the placement and evaluate the conduct without requiring you to speculate. Gather only information you can safely obtain.

- Placement: Record whether it was Google Search, Shopping, YouTube, a partner site or app, Bing, or another Microsoft property.
- Sponsored status: Capture the “Sponsored” or equivalent label and the advertiser name.
- Time and context: Note the date, approximate time, country or region, device or app context, and the exact search query when a search produced the ad.
- Ad identity: Save the visible headline and text. For Bing, copy the rlink as Microsoft instructs; do not substitute the display URL.
- Behavior: Describe redirects, credential prompts, downloads, warnings, impersonation, or other observable events. Say whether an ad click was required.
- Screenshot: Include the ad and enough surrounding page context to show that it was paid. Redact unrelated personal information before uploading.
Do not enter passwords, payment details, or one-time codes merely to investigate an ad. If you already submitted credentials to a suspicious destination, stop interacting with that page and use the account provider’s established recovery and security controls separately from the ad report.
Choose the right concern category
Use the category that describes the harm you can support. Categories can change as a form is updated, but Microsoft’s form includes examples such as:
| Observed issue | Best-fitting description | Evidence to emphasize |
|---|---|---|
| Fake login page or an ad posing as another organization | Fraud, phishing or scam | Impersonated organization, credential request, misleading claim, and destination |
| Malware warning, harmful download, or malicious redirect | Virus, spyware or malware | Warning text, redirect sequence, file or page behavior, and screenshot |
| Ad violates another stated policy but is not clearly malicious software or fraud | The closest available concern in the form | The exact policy-like behavior without adding an unsupported diagnosis |
Google’s form similarly works best when the selected reason and narrative match the behavior you actually observed. If an ad impersonates a site, name that site; if you only saw a suspicious domain, call it a suspicious domain rather than asserting ownership or criminal intent.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What happens after reporting
Google says it acknowledges an ad report by email and that its Trust & Safety team reviews it. It also states plainly: “Reporting an ad doesn’t block that ad.” The ad may therefore remain visible to you or other users while the review is pending, and a report is not a substitute for blocking or filtering controls available in your account.

Microsoft Advertising
The Report a Concern form requests the information needed for an ad-quality escalation, but the reviewed Microsoft guidance does not promise a particular review time, response, or removal decision. Keep your evidence and do not repeatedly submit identical forms unless new information materially changes the report.
Common mistakes and fixes
Reporting the display URL instead of the Bing rlink
Problem: The visible domain is pasted into the rlink field. Fix: Right-click the Bing ad title and select Copy Link; paste that value exactly.
Using an organic-result form for a paid ad
Problem: A sponsored listing is sent through a general search-result complaint path. Fix: Confirm the sponsored label, then use Google’s ad controls or Microsoft Advertising’s Report a Concern form.
Leaving out the search query or screenshot
Problem: The reviewer cannot reproduce which auction or result page showed the ad. Fix: Record the exact query and upload a screenshot that includes the ad and its paid-placement context.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Making a technical claim you cannot prove
Problem: The report labels code as malware without an observable basis. Fix: Describe the redirect, warning, download, credential prompt, or impersonation exactly as encountered and let the platform investigate the underlying cause.
Expecting an immediate disappearance
Problem: The ad remains visible, so the report is assumed to have failed. Fix: Retain the confirmation and evidence. Google explicitly says reporting does not block an ad, and Microsoft does not state an instant-removal commitment for the form.
Google and Bing reporting compared
| Comparison point | Bing / Microsoft Advertising | |
|---|---|---|
| Primary malicious-ad route | More or Info on the ad → Report ad; alternatives include My Ad Center, Ads Transparency Center, and Google’s report form | Microsoft Advertising Report a Concern form |
| Where the route applies | Google Search and Shopping, YouTube, and Google ads on partner sites or apps | Ads on Microsoft properties or the Microsoft Advertising Network |
| Distinctive evidence request | Ad details and a factual explanation; impersonated site name can be useful | Ad rlink, not display URL; search query; screenshot; country or region; concern category |
| Follow-up stated by the platform | Email acknowledgment and Trust & Safety review; reporting does not block the ad | No response time or outcome promise stated on the reviewed form |
| Organic-result handling | Google Search problem-report route | Separate Bing concern route; ad questions go to Microsoft Advertising |
The practical rule is simple: identify the placement first, preserve the ad context, then use the platform-specific route. That prevents a paid-ad complaint from being mixed with an organic-result report and gives reviewers the identifiers they request.
