If you find a post containing alleged Grand Theft Auto VI footage, do not download, save, repost, mirror, embed, or link to the video. Record only the platform, exact post or video URL, uploader name, date and time you saw it, and a brief description. Then report that specific post through the host platform’s copyright or unauthorized-content form, notify Rockstar Customer Support, and, for copyright questions or a direct request to Take-Two, email copyright@take2games.com. A formal DMCA notice is appropriate only for the copyright owner or an authorized agent who can truthfully make the required declarations.
Choose the right reporting route first
Your role and the location of the material determine which route to use. Ordinary viewers, journalists, moderators, and community members should report the post without claiming to own the footage. The copyright owner or an authorized agent can additionally send a formal DMCA notice.

Using the wrong route can slow a legitimate takedown or expose you to liability. A platform report is the practical option for someone who discovered a leak; the formal DMCA path is a rights-holder procedure, not a stronger version of an ordinary complaint.

Do not handle the leaked file
Do not open additional mirrors, download the file, create a screen recording, take screenshots that capture substantial footage, or paste the clip into another service. Do not quote or reproduce story dialogue. Redistribution creates more copies and can make the original report harder to evaluate.

Capture only identifying information
Write down the minimum information a reviewer needs to locate the post:
- The service or platform name.
- The exact URL of the post, video, channel item, account page, or file listing. Copy it directly rather than typing it from memory.
- The uploader’s display name, handle, channel name, or account identifier.
- The date and time you observed the material, including your time zone.
- A short neutral description, such as “post appears to show pre-release in-game footage,” without reproducing plot details.
If the page is visible without downloading anything, note whether it is public, age-gated, or behind an account login. Do not attempt to bypass a privacy setting or access control to gather evidence.
Preserve the URL without amplifying it
Keep the URL in a private note or in the report form. Do not place it in a public reply, group chat, article, livestream description, or social post. Publicly repeating the address can send more viewers to the material and may cause copies to appear before the platform reviews your complaint.
Report the exact post through its host platform
Platforms change button names and menu locations, but the process is broadly similar. Use the report control attached to the specific post rather than reporting only the uploader’s profile.
- Open the post page without downloading the media. If the post is already unavailable, report the URL you recorded and explain that it was previously accessible.
- Select the report control. It may appear as a three-dot menu, a flag icon, a help link, or a copyright form in the service’s legal or trust-and-safety center.
- Choose the closest category. Select copyright infringement, intellectual-property violation, unauthorized content, or an equivalent option. Do not choose a more dramatic category simply to obtain faster handling.
- Provide the exact location. Paste the post or video URL, then add the uploader name and observation time if the form allows extra context.
- Describe the issue briefly. State that the item appears to contain pre-release Grand Theft Auto VI footage and is being reported for unauthorized distribution. Avoid attaching the footage or linking to other copies.
- Submit and save the confirmation. Keep the case number, confirmation email, or submission date in your private notes. Do not open duplicate tickets repeatedly unless the service instructs you to do so.
If the platform asks whether you own the copyright
Answer accurately. If you are not the owner or an authorized representative, use the service’s ordinary report or tip route instead of checking a box that requires a rights-holder declaration. You can explain that you are reporting suspected unauthorized material for the owner’s attention. A false statement can undermine the request and create legal risk.

If the form has no copyright category
Use the platform’s general safety, legal, or unauthorized-content route and identify the post precisely. Ask the service to forward the report to its copyright or legal team. A generic abuse report is still more useful when it includes the exact URL, account name, date, and a concise description.
Notify Rockstar Customer Support
Rockstar’s Terms of Service direct users to report issues through in-game reporting tools or related Customer Support websites. For a web leak, use the live Rockstar Support site’s contact flow and choose the option for user material, conduct, or another category that accepts a report about content hosted outside the game.

- Explain that you are reporting a suspected GTA 6 pre-release footage leak hosted on another service.
- Include the platform, exact post URL, uploader or account name, date and time observed, and a short description.
- State that you have not downloaded or redistributed the footage, if that is accurate.
- Ask Rockstar to review the URL and route it to the appropriate copyright or enforcement team.
- Keep the support ticket number and any reply for your records.
Rockstar’s terms require a reporter to have a good-faith belief that the material violates the agreement. That means you should report what you actually saw and avoid asserting facts you cannot verify, such as the identity of the uploader or the exact source of the file.
Contact Take-Two at the official copyright address
Rockstar’s copyright policy lists copyright@take2games.com for copyright questions. You can use this address for a direct request about a suspected leak, especially when a platform’s reporting form is unavailable or when you need to identify the correct rights contact.
Keep the email factual and compact. Include the platform, exact URL, account name, observation time, and a short description. Explain whether you are a viewer, moderator, journalist, or rights holder. If you are not the owner, say so; do not sign a rights-holder declaration. Do not attach the video, a downloaded copy, or a mirror link.

Suggested subject and message structure
A subject such as “Suspected pre-release GTA 6 footage on [platform]” identifies the issue without reproducing the material. In the message, put the exact URL and account details near the top, followed by the observation time and a neutral description. State that you are requesting review and removal by the host or rights holder. If you filed a platform report, add its case number.

When a formal DMCA notice is appropriate
Use a formal DMCA notice only if you are the copyright owner or an authorized agent. Rockstar’s Terms of Service list six information elements. You must provide all of them and make the declarations truthfully:
- Your contact information: name, physical address, telephone number, and email address.
- Identification of the copyrighted work: a detailed description of the work you claim has been infringed.
- Location of the allegedly infringing material: the URL or a detailed description that allows the recipient to find it.
- Good-faith statement: a statement that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, the owner’s agent, or the law.
- Accuracy and authority statement: a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
- Signature: a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or authorized agent.

Send the notice through the contact method you choose and retain a copy of the exact text and attachments. Include only material needed to identify the work and location; sending the leaked file itself is unnecessary.

What Rockstar’s policy says about leaked footage
Rockstar Games Customer Support’s copyright policy, last updated January 10, 2025, states: "Any posting of in-game footage from leaked copies of the game prior to its official release date will be taken down, regardless of how the game was obtained."

The same policy identifies other material that can receive takedown notices, including isolated videos showing a story ending, edited cutscenes or compilations of plot dialogue, and isolated in-game entertainment. The list is not exhaustive and may change, so check the live policy when you submit a request rather than assuming that an item outside these examples is permitted.
The policy’s wording supports reporting the post itself. It does not give a viewer permission to obtain a copy, verify its authenticity by downloading it, or distribute it to prove that it exists.
If the post disappears or the uploader changes the URL
Leaks often move between accounts. If the original URL returns an error, keep the original address and note when it became unavailable. Do not hunt through mirrors to collect a larger list. If you encounter another public post, report that exact URL separately and provide the original case number when the platform allows it.
When a platform asks for a live URL but the material has already been removed, explain that the link was active at the time you observed it and provide the account name, post identifier, and observation time. Rockstar or Take-Two may still be able to use those details to identify related copies.
Legal and privacy cautions
Do not misrepresent ownership
A viewer cannot turn an ordinary report into a DMCA notice by copying the owner’s language. The required perjury statement is meaningful: it asserts both that the information is accurate and that the sender owns the copyright or is authorized to act for the owner.

Understand the risk of inaccurate claims
Rockstar’s DMCA section warns that knowingly misrepresenting infringement can create liability for damages, including costs and attorney fees. It also warns that information in a notice may be provided to the person responsible for the material. Use a private email address only if you understand that the notice may be shared, and provide contact details that are accurate and appropriate for a formal legal communication.
Separate suspicion from proof
You can report a post that appears to contain leaked footage without proving who created it, how it was obtained, or whether every frame is genuine. Describe observable facts and use terms such as “appears to show” when authenticity is uncertain. Do not accuse an individual of hacking, theft, or other crimes based solely on a clip’s appearance.
Guidance for journalists, moderators, and community managers
Editorial or moderation duties do not create copyright ownership. If you are documenting the existence of a leak, keep the URL and account details in a restricted record, do not embed the video, and use the platform and Rockstar Support routes. A report can identify the material without displaying it to readers or community members.

Moderators should remove user-submitted copies from their own communities under the community’s rules, preserve only the minimum metadata needed for an internal record, and avoid reposting the clip in staff channels. If a platform provides a moderator escalation form, include the original post URL and the time the moderation team acted.
What the 2022 incident does—and does not—establish
Take-Two’s Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2024 says: "In September 2022, we experienced a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from Rockstar Games’ systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto."
That filing confirms the earlier intrusion and the existence of early development footage in the incident. It does not authenticate a particular current upload, identify its uploader, or prove that every file labeled “GTA 6 leak” came from that event. Report the current URL and describe what you observed instead of relying on the historical incident as proof.
Troubleshooting common reporting problems

Final checklist
- Did you avoid downloading, reposting, embedding, mirroring, and publicly linking the footage?
- Do you have the exact platform and post URL?
- Did you record the uploader or account name and the date, time, and time zone observed?
- Did you use the host platform’s copyright or unauthorized-content category?
- Did you send the identifying details to Rockstar Customer Support?
- If you contacted Take-Two, did you use copyright@take2games.com?
- If you sent a DMCA notice, are you genuinely the copyright owner or an authorized agent, and did you include all six required elements?
- Did you avoid unsupported claims about the uploader, the source, or the authenticity of the footage?
Rockstar’s published policy says pre-release leaked footage will be taken down. The safest and most effective response is therefore to report the exact host URL through the platform and Rockstar Support, adding a formal DMCA notice only when you have the legal authority and accurate information required for one.
