If you own the copyright in material used in a GTA 6 video—or are authorized to act for the owner—you can ask YouTube to remove a specific video through its copyright removal-request form in YouTube Studio. A takedown is a legal request, not a general report button: you must identify the protected work and the video, provide required contact details, and make truthful legal statements. Rockstar’s general fan-content policy allows some gameplay sharing, so a particular upload’s status must be assessed on its facts.
First check whether you can file
YouTube’s copyright removal process is for the copyright owner or an authorized representative, such as a lawyer acting for the owner. A viewer who does not own the relevant rights and has no authority to represent the owner should not submit or sign a request as if they do.
Before filing, consider whether the video may be authorized or covered by fair use, fair dealing, public domain, or another applicable exception. The answer depends on the material, the way it is used, and applicable law; the presence of GTA 6 footage alone does not establish infringement. - Open the removal-request form. In YouTube Studio, use the copyright removal-request process. YouTube may ask for more information if it cannot assess the request from what you submit.
- Identify the video. Provide the direct URL of the specific video you believe infringes your rights. A request targets a particular allegation; YouTube says a separate request is required for each allegedly infringing video, rather than reporting an entire channel or playlist as a substitute.
- Describe the protected work. Explain clearly what copyrighted material is yours or belongs to the owner you represent, and how it appears in the video. Include the contact information the form requests.
- Complete the legal statements truthfully. The form asks you to confirm: “I have a good faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.” It also requires this statement: “The information in this notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, I am the owner, or an agent authorized to act on behalf of the owner, of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.” These are formal attestations, not optional wording to copy without considering whether they are true.
- Sign with a full legal name. YouTube requires the owner’s or authorized representative’s physical or electronic signature. For the online form, enter the signer’s full legal name.
- Choose immediate or scheduled removal, if offered. YouTube’s scheduled request takes effect after seven days, giving the uploader time to act before the video is removed and a strike is applied. Review the form’s available choices before submitting.
Know what information may be shared
YouTube says the claimant’s name may be shown in connection with a removal. The uploader may receive the claimant’s full legal name, primary email address, and description of the protected work. If disclosure of your personal information is a concern, an authorized representative can submit on the owner’s behalf. Do not provide false information or misuse the process; YouTube warns that doing so can have consequences. See YouTube’s explanation of the removal process and disclosure.

Understand the possible result
YouTube reviews whether a request appears valid and may ask for additional details. If it is valid, YouTube removes the video and applies a copyright strike to the uploader’s channel. A scheduled request delays that result for seven days, as described above; it is still a copyright removal request.
YouTube does not decide who owns disputed copyright. If the uploader contests the claim or ownership is disputed, the platform is not a court or mediator for deciding the underlying rights. YouTube explains copyright removal requests and counter notifications here.

Do not confuse a Content ID claim with a takedown

What Rockstar’s fan-content policy means for GTA 6 uploads
Rockstar says it welcomes fan gameplay footage and sometimes shares fan clips. Its guidelines address occasional, non-commercial use of in-game content by individual members of its fan community. That general policy is not a guarantee that every upload is authorized, and it does not prove that a particular video infringes. Monetization is a separate question. YouTube says monetizing game footage depends on commercial-use rights granted by the publisher. That guidance does not, by itself, determine whether a video infringes copyright. YouTube’s monetization guidance for gaming addresses that issue.
