Report the error to the company whose map shows it, using that service’s feedback tool. Choose the closest issue type, pinpoint the location, and state what is wrong and what the correct information should be. A report requests a review; the providers’ instructions do not promise a correction deadline or guarantee acceptance.
First, identify the type of map error
Different problems need different report categories. Before submitting, distinguish the issue you see from the correction you want:
- Missing road: A road exists but does not appear on the map.
- Removed road: A road is shown but no longer exists.
- Incorrect road or turn: The map has a wrong name, connection, or driving instruction.
- Incorrect address or place pin: The address or mapped location is wrong.
- Missing place: An address, business, transit stop, or other feature is absent.
- Closed place or road: A business or road is unavailable; for a road, specify whether the closure is temporary or permanent if the reporting form asks.
Send the report to the provider displaying the problem. A correction submitted to one map service should not be assumed to update other navigation apps.

Google Maps: incorrect route step
Google’s documented procedure is for an incorrect step in a driving, walking, cycling, or other supported route. It is available on a computer in some countries or regions, and does not cover transit directions. Google Maps Help: Report wrong directions.

- On a computer, open Google Maps and select Directions.
- Enter the starting point and destination, then choose the affected route.
- Select Details.
- Choose Send Product Feedback and flag the incorrect step, following the prompts.
This is the documented route-step flow, not a universal method for missing roads, wrong addresses, or incorrect place pins. For those, use the relevant map feedback or place-editing option in Google Maps and follow the labels currently shown in your app or browser.
Waze: road, address, turn, or other map issue
Waze provides a Live Map reporting flow and an in-app Talk to report feature. Its listed issue types include a general map issue, incorrect turn, incorrect address, incorrect route, missing roundabout, and missing road. Waze Help: Report a map issue.

- On the Waze Live Map, log in and search for the address.
- Right-click the map pin and select Report a problem.
- Choose the problem type, add a description, and submit the report.
Alternatively, use Waze’s in-app Talk to report feature to describe what you see on the road in everyday language. Waze says, “A volunteer map editor may contact you to get more information about your report.” Waze Help: Report a map issue.

Apple’s instructions below apply to Maps on iPhone; menus may differ on other Apple devices or software versions. Apple lists reports for missing addresses, businesses, transit stops and other features, incorrect directions steps, and businesses that have closed. Start either way:
- Touch and hold the map until a pin appears. Scroll to the bottom of the pin’s card and tap Report Something Missing; or
- Tap your profile picture or initials beside the search field, choose Reports, then tap Report a New Issue.
Choose the issue type and follow the on-screen steps.
TomTom: use MapShare Reporter for a map correction
TomTom’s consumer MapShare Reporter lets users select a road or other map location, enter correction information, and submit it. For a road closure, the form distinguishes temporary from permanent closures. TomTom Support: Reporting map changes.

TomTom also documents a separate Map Feedback API for integrations. It can submit feedback and monitor issue status, but access is not included in free evaluation or Pay As You Grow plans and must be requested from sales. That API is not the consumer reporting route; use MapShare Reporter for an ordinary map correction. TomTom Map Feedback API: Access.

HERE’s official feedback categories cover missing or incorrect roads, roads that no longer exist, missing or incorrect addresses, missing or incorrectly located places, and closed places. For a U.S. road closure, the Department of Transportation describes online tools for agencies to send closure updates to Waze, HERE, and TomTom. This is agency-oriented guidance, not evidence that individual drivers can submit a closure to each provider through the same channel. Make the report easy to interpret: identify the exact location, describe the error plainly, and give the correct information. Waze’s flow asks for a description, and TomTom’s reporter asks for correction details. Waze Help: Report a map issue; TomTom Support: Reporting map changes.
- Choose the most precise category available: for example, missing road rather than incorrect turn, or closed business rather than misplaced pin.
- For a road closure, say whether it is temporary or permanent when the form provides that choice.
- Keep the description concise and factual: what the map currently shows, what is wrong, and what it should show instead.
The provider instructions reviewed here do not establish photos, proof of ownership, or other supporting documents as universal requirements. Attachments may be useful if a particular reporting form requests or allows them, but do not assume they are mandatory.
What happens after you submit
A submission is a request for the map provider to review an error, not a guaranteed edit. The cited provider pages do not publish a dependable correction deadline or promise that every report will be accepted. Waze specifically notes that a volunteer map editor may follow up for more information; the cited instructions do not establish an equivalent follow-up process for every provider.
If reporting from a vehicle, wait until you are safely stopped or ask a passenger to submit the report. This is practical safety advice, not a provider-specific requirement.
