If a traffic incident shown in Google Maps has cleared, answer No when Maps asks “Is this still here?” as you approach it during navigation. Tap Yes only when the incident is still present. Make the report or status vote only when it is safe to do so. This in-navigation response updates the status of a community-reported incident; it is not a general support ticket and does not provide a guaranteed removal time.
Choose the reporting path that matches the problem
Google Maps uses different workflows for a stale user-reported incident, incorrect underlying map information, and a wrong navigation instruction. Choosing the closest match gives Google the type of information its systems expect and avoids sending a map-data error through a product-feedback form.

Report a stale traffic incident while navigating
1. Wait for the in-navigation question
Google Maps may display an incident reported by another user as you travel toward it. As you move closer, Maps can show the prompt “Is this still here?” The question is a request for a current status check, not an invitation to edit the map or contact the person who made the original report.
The exact control placement and wording around the prompt can differ between a phone, a vehicle display, and different software versions. Look for the two status choices associated with the incident itself rather than a general feedback menu.

2. Confirm that responding is safe
Google’s Maps Help instruction is explicit: “Only make a report if it’s safe to do so.” Do not handle a phone while moving. If you are driving, let a passenger respond, wait until you are legally and safely parked, or skip the interaction. Never slow down, stop in a travel lane, or make an unsafe maneuver to submit a status vote.
3. Select the current status
- Tap No when the crash, debris, stalled vehicle, closure, roadwork, or other incident has cleared.
- Tap Yes when the incident is still present at the location shown.
Your response tells Maps and approaching drivers whether the report still appears accurate. It is a status contribution about the incident at that moment, not a statement that every nearby road condition is normal or that the original report was dishonest.
4. If the prompt never appears
A missing prompt does not necessarily mean the incident is still active. Google says incident features are limited to certain countries or regions, and availability can depend on the vehicle, region, and data plan when Maps is built into a car. The feature can also change as Google updates its software. Continue using the map safely; do not try to force a response through an unrelated menu.
The reviewed Google instructions do not promise that a stale incident will disappear immediately after a No vote, nor do they describe a guaranteed response to an individual report. Do not assume the original reporter can be contacted directly.

What the status vote does—and does not do
It is a current-condition signal
The Yes or No response helps Google evaluate whether a community-reported incident remains relevant to people approaching the location. Traffic and incident information used for route decisions can also come from anonymous phone data and licensed partners such as governments, nonprofits, schools, and businesses. Your response is therefore one input in a larger information system, not a command that independently deletes an item.
It is not a map edit
A temporary incident and a map feature are different kinds of data. A cleared collision report should be handled with the incident-status prompt. A road drawn in the wrong place, a missing address, or a closed business requires the map-data process described below. Sending the wrong kind of feedback can leave the underlying error unchanged.
There is no stated removal deadline
Google’s published instructions explain how to vote on an incident but do not state a guaranteed time for removal, a resolution rate, or a personal reply. If the item remains visible after you respond, that alone does not indicate that the vote failed. Avoid submitting repeated reports while traveling; respond once when it is safe and use the correct data-error route for a persistent map problem.

Use the data-problem route, not general product feedback
Google separates errors in map content from feedback about the Maps product experience. If the problem is a wrong or missing place, address, road, or other map information, Google’s Maps Help guidance directs you to report a data problem. General product-feedback steps are intended for problems with the product itself, not for correcting the map database.

Select the closest error category
Google’s data and content error guidance lists separate routes for several types of map issue:
- Places, such as a business or public facility that is missing, duplicated, closed, or incorrectly described.
- Addresses that point to the wrong position or cannot be found.
- Roads that are missing, incorrectly drawn, wrongly named, or have an incorrect restriction.
- Spam or bad data, including content that should not be on the map.
- Other content errors that do not fit the specific categories.
Choose the category that describes the map object or information itself. Do not classify a temporary crash, stopped vehicle, or short-term obstruction as a permanent road-data error unless the road information is actually wrong.
Describe what happened and what you expected
Google recommends being specific. State the visible problem, the location or map feature involved, and the correction you expected. For example, distinguish “the address pin is on the adjacent street” from “the road is closed today.” This distinction helps separate a lasting map error from a short-lived traffic condition.
Use the most precise location available and identify the affected feature by its displayed name or address. If the form offers a category, select the one that matches your explanation. Keep the description factual; do not include personal information about drivers, passengers, or other people unless the form expressly requires it.

Account for regional limits
Google notes that help for correcting map errors is available only in some countries and regions. A menu, category, or submission option visible to one user may not appear for another. If a data-error option is unavailable in your location, do not substitute an unrelated incident vote and do not infer that the map has been corrected simply because the form accepted a submission.
Report an incorrect driving-direction step on a computer
Use this workflow when the route itself gives an incorrect driving instruction—for example, a turn that cannot be made, a step that sends you onto a nonexistent road, or a direction that conflicts with the mapped road layout. Google documents this route for computers and says it is available in some countries or regions.
- Open Google Maps on a computer and select Directions.
- Enter the starting point and destination.
- Select the route that contains the incorrect instruction.
- Open Details for that route.
- Choose Send Product Feedback.
- Flag the specific step that is wrong.
- Select the problem type that best describes the error.
- Review the description and submit the feedback.
This process reports a wrong direction step; it is not the procedure for voting that a temporary traffic incident has cleared. If the route is merely slow because a crash has just been removed, use the incident-status prompt when it is offered. If the road geometry, turn restriction, or destination location is wrong, describe that lasting map problem through the appropriate data-error route instead.

Google Maps built into a car
The cited incident instructions specifically cover Google Maps built into a car. Google says functionality can depend on the vehicle manufacturer, region, and data plan. A car display may therefore show a different control arrangement or a different set of incident types than another vehicle.

Phone and other app versions
The consumer app’s labels and menu paths can change across operating systems and releases. Do not treat one platform’s exact button position as universal. The important identifier is the literal status question, “Is this still here?” If that question is not shown, follow the map-data or wrong-directions route only when your problem actually belongs to one of those categories.
Country and region availability
Some incident types are reportable only in certain countries. Regional restrictions also apply to portions of Google’s map-error and wrong-directions help. Before troubleshooting a missing option as a software failure, consider whether the feature is supported where you are using Maps.

Safety and privacy checklist
- Respond only when you can do so without handling a device while driving.
- Do not stop or change speed unexpectedly to reach a reporting control.
- Report what you can directly observe; do not guess about an incident outside your view.
- Separate temporary traffic conditions from permanent map errors.
- Use the most specific category and explanation available.
- Do not expect a way to message the original reporter; Google’s documented flows do not provide one.
- Do not assume that submitting feedback guarantees a correction, immediate disappearance, or individual follow-up.
What to expect after submitting
A status vote, map-data report, and wrong-directions report feed different parts of Google’s mapping and feedback systems. Google’s public instructions describe the submission actions but do not promise a processing schedule or a direct status update for an individual user. The practical outcome is that you have supplied the appropriate signal: a current Yes or No observation for an incident, a specific correction for map content, or a flagged route step for an incorrect direction.

A recurring temporary obstruction is not the same as a permanently misdrawn road, and a wrong destination pin is not the same as a bad turn instruction. Reclassifying the problem accurately is more useful than repeatedly sending the same generic feedback.
