If a Google AI Overview gives an inaccurate, misleading, biased, or otherwise problematic answer, use the Overview’s own feedback control: select Bad overview, choose Report a problem, pick the category that fits, explain the specific error, and submit. If those controls are not visible, use Google Search’s general More → Feedback option beside a result. Check important claims against multiple sources before reporting them; Google warns that AI responses may include mistakes.
Use the dedicated AI Overview report first
The dedicated route is the most specific way to flag an incorrect generated summary. Reopen the search that produced the Overview, identify the statement that is wrong, and submit feedback from inside that Overview. Google’s documented sequence is:
- Run the search again, or revisit the results page where the Overview appeared.
- In the AI Overview, select the thumbs-down control labeled Bad overview. Google also documents access through the Overview’s three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Report a problem.
- Choose the category that best describes the problem.
- Enter a concise explanation identifying the incorrect claim and why it is inaccurate or misleading. Add reliable supporting context when it helps explain the problem.
- Submit the report.
Google says the submitted feedback includes your most recent search query and its search results. That context helps associate your comments with the Overview you saw, so submit the report after returning to the relevant results page rather than from an unrelated search.
Before you report: confirm what is actually wrong
An Overview can be unsatisfactory for several different reasons. Separating them makes the report more useful and helps you choose an appropriate category.

Check the claim against independent sources
Google Search Help says that AI responses may include mistakes and advises users to think critically and consult multiple sources for important information. Verify the exact sentence, number, date, attribution, or instruction that concerns you. A single disagreement is not always proof of an error; look for dependable sources that establish the correct information.
Separate a factual error from an incomplete answer
A factual error states something false, such as assigning an event to the wrong date. An incomplete answer may omit an important condition or exception while leaving the included statements technically correct. State which kind of problem occurred and identify the missing context rather than simply writing that the answer is “bad.”
Check whether the wording is misleading
An Overview can create a false impression through an unqualified statement, an ambiguous definition, or a conclusion that does not follow from the cited material. Explain the impression a reader would get and the qualification that is missing. This is more actionable than criticizing the tone alone.

Consider whether the issue is with Search generally
If the problem is an inaccurate Overview, use its dedicated control when available. If the complaint concerns the results page, a result listing, or a broader Search behavior—or if the Overview controls do not appear—use the general Search feedback route described below.
How to write a useful problem description
The text field is your opportunity to identify the precise defect. Keep the explanation focused on one issue when possible, and include enough context for someone reviewing the report to understand it without guessing.
Name the exact statement
Quote a short phrase or describe the claim precisely. For example, explain that the Overview says a policy took effect in one year when the official policy page gives another year. Avoid a broad statement such as “the whole answer is wrong” unless you then identify the individual errors.

Explain why it is inaccurate or misleading
Describe the conflict, missing condition, or unsupported conclusion. A strong explanation connects the displayed wording to the problem: the claim confuses two similarly named items, applies a rule outside its stated scope, or presents an estimate as a confirmed fact.

Google recommends adding details. You can identify the authoritative source you consulted, summarize the relevant passage, or explain the date, location, edition, or other qualification that changes the answer. Do not overwhelm the form with unrelated links or a long argument; include the evidence needed to understand this specific issue.
Describe harmful implications for consequential topics
When an error could affect health, safety, finances, legal rights, or another high-stakes decision, say so plainly and explain what a reader might do incorrectly. Continue to verify the information independently; submitting feedback is not a substitute for professional or official advice.
Use a compact structure
A practical description can follow this order:
- Claim: identify the sentence or conclusion.
- Problem: state what is false, omitted, biased, or confusing.
- Context: give the source or fact that demonstrates the issue.
- Impact: explain why the distinction matters, if relevant.
For example, an explanation could say that the Overview identifies a document as applying nationwide, while the issuing authority limits it to a particular jurisdiction; the authority’s current guidance supplies the missing limitation.
Choosing the report category
After selecting Report a problem, Google presents categories. The exact labels can change with the interface, so select the option that most closely matches what you observed rather than trying to force the issue into a specific label.

- Use an accuracy-related option when the Overview states a fact that reliable information contradicts.
- Use an unhelpful or incomplete option when the response does not address the question or leaves out information needed to interpret it.
- Use a bias- or sensitivity-related option when the presentation is unfair, stereotyping, or systematically favors one side without appropriate context.
- Use another-problem or comparable wording when the defect does not fit those descriptions, then explain the issue in the text field.
Google’s Help documentation describes the relevant problem types as an Overview that is “unhelpful, inaccurate, biased, or otherwise problematic.” The category menu you see may use different wording or appear in a different order.

When the AI Overview controls are missing
The dedicated feedback control is not guaranteed to be visible for every user, query, device, or interface. Google’s desktop and Android instructions document the flow, but they do not establish that every person will see identical controls.
Use general Search feedback from a result
On the results page, locate a result associated with the issue. Open the More menu beside that result, choose Feedback, describe the problem, and send it. Google says you may optionally highlight the relevant part of the page before submitting.
- Return to the results page where you noticed the problem.
- Find the relevant result and open its More menu.
- Select Feedback.
- Describe the Search or result problem, including the Overview issue if that is what led you to report it.
- Optionally highlight the specific portion of the page that illustrates the issue.
- Send the feedback.
This is a general Search channel, not a replacement that offers the same Overview-specific category on every interface. Use it when the Overview route is unavailable or when the complaint is broader than the generated summary itself.

If the Overview disappears while you are looking for its controls, note the query and the wording you saw before opening general feedback. Google says feedback can include the most recent query and its results, but your written description should still identify the problematic statement so the recipient does not have to infer it.
Dedicated Overview feedback versus general Search feedback

The first route is preferable when it is available because it is designed for the Overview itself. The second route is the documented fallback and is also appropriate when the issue is not limited to generated text.
What information accompanies a submission
Google says feedback for the Overview includes the most recent search query and its results. This means the query context is part of the report, not just the prose you type. To make that context meaningful:

- Submit while the relevant query is the most recent Search you performed.
- Describe which part of the Overview is wrong, even if the query is obvious.
- Include important qualifiers such as country, date, product version, or audience when they determine whether a claim is correct.
- Do not assume that a reviewer will know which of several claims you mean.
The general feedback form can also let you highlight a relevant part of a page. Use highlighting to point to evidence or the affected result, not to replace an explanation of what the Overview got wrong.

Submitting feedback sends Google the report and the associated context described above. Google’s general Search feedback guidance says feedback may be reviewed and used to improve Search, but it cannot always respond. The documentation does not promise that an individual will contact you, that an Overview will be corrected, that the content will be removed, or that the report will be processed within a particular period.
Do not treat the submission as confirmation that Google agreed with your assessment. If the information matters, continue using authoritative sources and make decisions based on verified information rather than waiting for a change to the Overview.

The thumbs-down control is not visible
Look for the Overview’s three-dot menu, which Google also identifies as a place to reach feedback. If neither control appears, use More → Feedback beside a relevant result and explain that the issue concerns an AI Overview.
The Overview changed before you could report it
Re-run the same query and check whether the Overview returns. If it does not, use general Search feedback and describe the wording you previously saw as accurately as possible. Include the query in your explanation so the report has a clear starting point.
You disagree but cannot establish an error
Do not describe an unverified disagreement as a factual correction. Check multiple sources first. If the answer is merely unclear or incomplete, select the category that reflects that problem and explain the missing qualification.

The Overview combines correct and incorrect statements
Identify each material error separately in the description, or submit focused reports if the interface allows. Distinguish the correct portion from the incorrect portion so the issue is not dismissed as a general objection.
The problem concerns a Search result rather than generated text
Use the general feedback menu beside the result. Explain whether the issue is a misleading title, inaccurate snippet, missing context, or another result-level problem, and highlight the relevant page area when that option is offered.
You need an immediate answer for a high-stakes decision
Do not wait for feedback processing. Consult appropriate official or professional sources, verify the current information, and then report the Overview with the details you found.
A practical reporting checklist
- Reopen the exact query that produced the Overview.
- Read the entire generated answer and identify the specific sentence or implication at issue.
- Verify the claim against multiple reliable sources, as Google recommends for important information.
- Use Bad overview and then Report a problem when those controls are available.
- Select the category that best matches the defect.
- Explain what the Overview says, what is wrong or missing, and why the distinction matters.
- Add supporting context, including relevant dates, jurisdictions, versions, or source information.
- Submit while the relevant query is the most recent Search.
- If the Overview controls are unavailable, use the result’s More → Feedback route.
- Keep using independently verified information; a report does not guarantee a response or correction.
How to make reports clearer without making them longer
Specificity is more valuable than volume. A short report that isolates one demonstrable error is easier to understand than a long complaint that mixes several unrelated concerns. Prefer concrete descriptions such as “the answer presents a regional rule as universal” or “the date conflicts with the issuing authority’s current page” over conclusions such as “the AI is unreliable.”
Use neutral language. The goal is to describe an observable problem, not to speculate about why the Overview produced it. If the evidence is time-sensitive, state when the information was current. If two sources disagree, acknowledge the disagreement and explain why one source is more authoritative for the question you asked.
Finally, remember that an Overview is a generated response, not a substitute for checking primary material. Reporting an error helps communicate a problem with a particular Search experience, while independent verification protects you from relying on an answer that may change or contain another mistake.
