To report a Twitch stream, channel, clip, highlight, past broadcast, chat message, Whisper, or account, use Twitch’s built-in report control and choose the reason that most accurately describes the suspected Community Guidelines violation. A report sends the material to Twitch for review; it is not a finding of wrongdoing and does not automatically suspend the streamer.
Twitch reviews reports using the reported conduct’s context, intent, potential or actual harm, legal obligations, classification, and severity. Outcomes can range from no enforcement or a warning to a temporary or indefinite suspension, and Twitch may remove recorded content associated with a violation. Twitch says it notifies the account holder when it makes an enforcement decision, but its general guidance does not promise the reporter a detailed outcome notice or specify whether the streamer is told the reporter’s identity.
What a Twitch report does—and what it does not do
A report is a request for Twitch to examine conduct that may break its Community Guidelines. Twitch’s rules cover more than the live video itself: they apply to video, chat, Whispers, and accounts. You can therefore report behavior that happens in a stream, in a channel’s chat, in a private Whisper, or through account activity.
Submitting a report does not prove that a violation occurred. Twitch’s moderation team must assess the available evidence and the surrounding circumstances. The same words or action can be treated differently depending on intent, context, whether it caused or threatened harm, and whether legal obligations apply. A report can end with no enforcement when reviewers do not find a rule violation.

Do not report someone simply because you dislike an opinion, a game, a creator, or a stream. Twitch identifies repetitive unwanted reports and malicious reporting as spam or abusive conduct. Send a report when you can describe a specific behavior that may violate a rule, and provide relevant context rather than encouraging viewers to submit identical reports.
When to report a stream, channel, or account
Report conduct that may violate the Community Guidelines
Use the report function for suspected rule-breaking such as behavior in the live video, chat, Whispers, or account activity. Choose the category that best matches what you observed. If the available categories do not seem perfect, select the closest accurate reason and explain the discrepancy in the details field if Twitch provides one.
Preserve useful context before you submit
Note what happened, where it happened, and when it happened. A precise description helps reviewers distinguish a complete incident from an isolated phrase, an edited clip, or a misunderstanding. Include the relevant channel, message, clip, or broadcast location through Twitch’s own report flow. Do not exaggerate, speculate about motives, or include unrelated personal information.
- Describe the observable conduct rather than labeling the person.
- Identify whether it occurred in video, chat, a Whisper, or another account feature.
- Explain surrounding events when they change the meaning of the conduct.
- Use one accurate report instead of coordinating a mass-reporting campaign.
How to report a Twitch stream or account
Twitch changes button names and placement as its website and apps are updated. Use the current report control shown in your Twitch app or on the website. The following sequence describes the function, while the exact label or location may vary by platform.
Reporting from a channel or live stream
- Open the channel or stream containing the suspected violation.
- Open the channel’s options menu, commonly represented by a three-dot icon or another overflow control.
- Choose the report option.
- Select the category that most accurately describes the conduct.
- Add a factual explanation and any relevant context requested by the form.
- Review the details and submit the report.
A historical Twitch NetzDG transparency report from H1 2022 described a three-dot menu on a channel, followed by a report action and category selection. That report concerned Germany-specific legal procedures, so treat it as historical interface guidance rather than a guarantee that every current user sees the same labels.

Reporting a clip, highlight, or past broadcast
Open the individual recorded item and use its current options menu. Twitch’s historical guidance listed clips, highlights, and past broadcasts among the items that could be reported. Select the reason tied to the content itself and explain which portion of the recording is relevant. If the conduct also appears in the channel or chat, report the applicable location separately only when it represents a distinct issue; do not submit duplicate reports for the same event merely to increase volume.
Reporting a username or account
Open the account’s profile or options menu and choose the report control available there. Select the category that describes the account conduct. A username report should explain the specific rule concern rather than simply stating that the name is offensive to you.

Use the message or user options shown in the chat or Whisper interface. Select the closest category and describe the message, sequence, or surrounding exchange that matters. If the behavior presents an immediate danger, preserve the relevant information and contact emergency services or another appropriate authority as well; a Twitch report is not an emergency response channel.
What happens after you submit a report
1. Twitch receives and prioritizes the report
Twitch’s moderation process reviews incoming reports and prioritizes them using factors such as the reported behavior’s classification, severity, and whether it may be illegal. Priority does not mean that a report is automatically accepted as true. It means the report is assessed in the context of Twitch’s safety and legal obligations.
2. Reviewers assess evidence and context
Reviewers determine whether the conduct violates Twitch’s rules. Twitch states that its review considers intent and context, the potential for or actual harm to the community, legal obligations, and other factors. A short clip or single message may not show the full circumstances, so a clear explanation of what happened before and after the reported material can be important.

3. Twitch chooses an outcome
Possible outcomes are not limited to suspension. Twitch may take no enforcement action, issue a warning, temporarily suspend features or access, or impose an indefinite suspension in serious cases. Twitch may also remove recorded material associated with a violation. Enforcement can affect streaming, chatting, or broader account access; some severe violations can result in both streaming and chatting suspensions.

4. Twitch notifies the account holder about an enforcement decision
Twitch says the account holder is notified when Twitch makes an enforcement decision and can view the reason in the Appeals Portal. That notice is directed to the affected account. Twitch’s general enforcement guidance does not promise the person who filed an ordinary report a detailed explanation of the final decision.
How long does Twitch take to review a report?
There is no guaranteed turnaround time for an individual report. Twitch’s H2 2024 Transparency Report gives aggregate results for that reporting period: 84.22% of reports were reviewed in under 10 minutes, 93.36% in under one hour, 95.74% in under six hours, 96.36% in under 12 hours, and 96.73% in under 24 hours. Those percentages describe the report population during that period, not a promise that your report will be reviewed within the same interval.

The same H2 2024 report recorded 7,854,198 user reports, compared with 9,582,143 in H1 2024—an approximately 18% decline. Twitch attributed much of the earlier elevated volume to a wave of spam-related activity and subsequent mitigation efforts. That change in volume helps explain why one period’s averages should not be treated as a permanent service-level promise.
Will the streamer know who reported them?
Twitch’s general enforcement guidance explains notice to the account holder, but the reviewed guidance does not specify whether an ordinary reported streamer is shown the reporter’s identity. Do not assume that Twitch guarantees absolute anonymity, and do not assume that the streamer will necessarily receive your name. If revealing your identity would create a safety concern, avoid including identifying details in the report narrative and consider whether you also need help from a trusted authority.

A separate historical process described in Twitch’s Germany-specific NetzDG transparency report included email notifications for reporters and creators. That legal process should not be generalized to ordinary reports submitted elsewhere. Notification rules can depend on the applicable law, location, and reporting channel.
What happens if Twitch finds a violation?
Twitch weighs the circumstances rather than applying an automatic penalty to every upheld report. The enforcement decision may reflect the seriousness and classification of the conduct, the potential or actual harm, intent and context, legal duties, and the account’s situation under Twitch’s policies.
In a February 19, 2025 safety update, Twitch authors Sakina Arsiwala and Christine Weber wrote, “Our safety team will continue to conduct thorough reviews before we enforce against a channel.” The statement reflects why a report should be treated as a request for review, not as a guaranteed suspension.
Twitch also reported in that update that around 96% of active streamers had never received a suspension. The figure is Twitch’s published statistic for the time context of that February 19, 2025 update; it does not predict the outcome of a particular report or establish that a reported channel has no violations.
If you believe the decision was wrong
The appeal process belongs to the account holder who received the enforcement. Twitch provides an Appeals Portal where that person can review the stated reason and submit an appeal. Twitch’s transparency-report description says an appeal can result in an enforcement being overturned, recategorized, or adjusted.

A reporter cannot force a particular penalty and cannot control the account holder’s appeal. If you are the reporter, keep any relevant information you already have, but do not contact or harass the streamer to demand a result. If new, distinct conduct occurs, report that conduct accurately rather than repeating the original report.
Common reporting mistakes and how to avoid them
Reporting disagreement instead of a rule concern
Disliking a creator, political view, game choice, joke, or criticism is not by itself a Community Guidelines violation. Describe the concrete behavior that concerns you and select the category that fits it.
Submitting many duplicate reports
Mass reporting does not establish that conduct violated a rule. Repetitive unwanted reports can be treated as spam or malicious conduct. One complete report with accurate context is more useful than a coordinated flood.

Leaving out the location or context
A reviewer needs to know whether the issue was in live video, chat, a Whisper, a clip, a highlight, a past broadcast, or account activity. Identify the relevant item and explain the surrounding exchange when it changes the meaning.
Assuming a report guarantees removal
Twitch may remove recorded material when it finds a violation, but neither removal nor suspension is automatic. The review can conclude that the material does not breach the rules.
Treating an urgent threat as an ordinary moderation ticket
Use Twitch’s report tool for suspected platform-rule violations. For an immediate threat to life, physical safety, or a child, contact emergency services or the relevant law-enforcement or safeguarding authority in your location. Twitch’s moderation queue cannot replace emergency assistance.
A practical checklist before you submit
- Open the correct stream, account, message, clip, highlight, or past broadcast.
- Use the current report control in the Twitch website or app.
- Select the closest accurate reason.
- Describe what happened in neutral, specific language.
- Include the relevant time, message, or surrounding context when the form allows it.
- Submit one complete report instead of organizing duplicate reports.
- Do not promise yourself or others that Twitch will suspend the account.
- For immediate danger, contact emergency services or another appropriate authority as well.
