Use the workflow that matches the problem. For a temporary hazard or traffic condition, start navigation in Google Maps built into your car, tap Report, and choose the incident type—but only when doing so is safe. To help confirm another driver’s report, Maps may ask nearby users, “Is this still here?” A persistent map error, such as a missing road or wrong direction, uses the road-edit tools instead, and your own edits can be reviewed in the Maps contributions area on a phone or tablet.
These tools do not form one guaranteed ticket system. A community incident can disappear when users report that it has cleared, while a road edit is reviewed through Google’s map-data process. Google’s published help does not promise a fixed resolution time for either workflow.
Choose the right Google Maps reporting path
Before opening a report form, decide whether you are describing a short-lived condition on the road, correcting the underlying map, reporting a closure connected to a crisis alert, or commenting on the Maps product itself. Choosing the wrong path can send useful information to a channel that is not designed to change the map data.
| Problem | Where to start | How status is checked | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Temporary incident during a trip | Navigation screen in Google Maps built into a car → Report | Nearby users may receive “Is this still here?” and answer Yes or No | Community confirmation, not a guaranteed personal case tracker |
| Road closure tied to a crisis alert | Crisis sheet → Navigation impact → Report road closure | Follow the prompts in the crisis workflow | Available when the relevant crisis alert and controls are present |
| Persistent map-data error | Desktop: Menu → Edit the map → Add or fix a road; Android: Contribute → Update road | Review your own edits on a phone or tablet in Maps contributions | Road corrections are available only in some countries and regions; acceptance is not guaranteed |
| Maps app experience or bug | General product-feedback channel | No promised immediate action or fixed response | Use a road edit or data-problem route for wrong or missing map data |
There is no fee associated with these documented reporting paths, and Google does not identify a special mount, dash camera, or other purchase as necessary. A phone, tablet, or compatible in-car Maps interface is simply the access method for the controls that are available in your location.

Report a live traffic incident while navigating
Use the Report control in Google Maps built into your car
Start navigation in the car’s Google Maps experience. When the reporting control is available, tap Report and select the incident that matches what you see. Google lists these incident types:
- Crash
- Slowdown
- Mobile speed camera
- Police
- Construction
- Lane closure
- Object on road
- Flooded road
- Low visibility
- Unplowed road
Choose the narrowest accurate category. A lane closure, for example, describes a restriction affecting a lane; an object on road describes a physical obstruction. A flooded road or low-visibility report communicates a different risk from ordinary congestion. Do not select a dramatic category merely because it is the closest button if the condition does not match.
The list and reporting capability can vary by country. If an option is not shown, do not substitute a different category simply to force a submission; use the controls available in your region or wait until you can report safely through an appropriate channel. Vehicle integration and the version of Maps can also affect which control is visible.
Make safety the first condition
Google’s instruction is explicit: “Only make a report if it’s safe to do so.” A driver should not handle the screen while the vehicle is moving or while attention is needed for traffic. Use a passenger, a stopped vehicle in a lawful and safe location, or the car’s permitted voice and hands-free controls where available and legal. Local road rules take priority over the convenience of sending a report.
Safety applies when confirming an alert, too. Do not slow down, stop unexpectedly, or look for a marker in a way that creates a hazard. If you cannot verify the condition safely, leave the prompt alone. A later, accurate confirmation is preferable to an unsafe interaction or a guess.
What happens after you submit
Google says trip reports may be retained, but they are not associated with the reporter’s account. A report may appear on the map along the route. That means you should not expect a personal inbox, case number, or account page showing every temporary incident you have submitted. The purpose is to inform other travelers and the Maps system about a condition that may affect routing.
Retention also does not mean the condition will remain true for the whole trip. A crash can be cleared, a slowdown can move, and a temporary obstruction can be removed. The report is useful as travel information, not as a permanent change to the road record.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsReport a road closure connected to a crisis alert
A closure associated with a crisis alert follows a different route from the ordinary navigation report control. Open the relevant crisis sheet, choose Navigation impact, select Report road closure, and follow the prompts shown there.

This path is for the closure information presented in the crisis experience. It should not be confused with correcting a permanently wrong road shape, name, direction, or closure record in the underlying map. Those issues belong in the road-edit workflow described below.
If the crisis sheet or the Navigation impact control is not present, the documented crisis workflow is not available in that view. Do not assume that a regular incident button creates the same crisis-linked record. Use the route that actually appears in your Maps experience and report only what you can accurately observe.
How to check whether a reported incident is still there
Respond to the “Is this still here?” prompt
When another user’s incident is on or near your navigation route, Maps may display the marker as you approach. Near that marker, the app can ask, “Is this still here?”
- Approach the incident marker while following your route.
- Read the prompt and compare it with the actual road condition.
- Tap Yes if the crash, slowdown, hazard, or other reported condition is still present.
- Tap No if it has cleared.
Your answer is a community confirmation for other Maps users. It is not a resolution notice sent to the original reporter, and it is not evidence that Google has accepted or closed a personal support ticket. The prompt may appear only when Maps determines that the incident is relevant to nearby navigation, so its absence does not prove that a report was rejected or resolved.
Answer based on the road condition at the point and time you encounter it. If you see a different problem, do not use Yes to endorse the original marker simply because traffic is still heavy. Likewise, choose No when the reported condition has cleared even if another unrelated delay remains.
Do not treat the prompt as a report-history screen
Google’s documented method for checking a temporary incident is the nearby Yes-or-No question. The available help does not describe a personal history page that lets you open every live incident report and see a formal outcome. If you submitted a trip report, it may be retained without being tied to your account, so there may be no account record to revisit.
This distinction explains why “Was my report resolved?” is not answered in the same way as “Is this marker still here?” The first implies an account-linked case and a completion message; the second is a community check presented to nearby travelers. Describe the result accurately rather than promising that Google sent a resolution notification.

Correct a persistent road or map-data error
Use a road edit when the map itself is wrong or incomplete rather than when traffic is merely slow for a short time. Examples include a road that is missing, drawn incorrectly, named incorrectly, assigned the wrong direction, or carrying closure information that needs correction. Google notes that road corrections are available only in some countries and regions.

A useful test is whether the problem would still be wrong after traffic returned to normal. If yes, it is likely a map-data issue. If no, use the live-incident route. Mixing the two can leave a temporary condition represented as a lasting road attribute.
Desktop workflow
- Open Google Maps and sign in if the interface asks you to do so.
- Open Menu.
- Choose Edit the map.
- Select Add or fix a road.
- Select the affected road and submit the correction using the options provided.
The exact fields can depend on the type of correction and the region. Describe the map problem accurately rather than reporting a temporary queue or an isolated slowdown as a permanent road change. Check the selected road segment before submitting so that the correction is attached to the location that is actually wrong.
Android workflow
- Open Google Maps on Android and sign in.
- Open Contribute.
- Choose Update road.
- Select the affected road and provide the correction requested by Maps.
- Submit the edit.
Google’s road-edit availability is regional, so an Android user may not see the same controls in every country. A missing option is a limitation of availability or the current interface, not a reason to file the issue as unrelated product feedback.
The desktop and Android labels are not interchangeable instructions for every device. Follow the labels shown in the platform you are using, and do not assume that a control documented for one platform must appear in another. If the road-edit feature is unavailable in your country or region, the absence of the button is itself a documented limitation.
Check the status of your own Google Maps edit
Google says your edits are visible to you in a list on a phone or tablet. In Android Maps, sign in, open Contribute, and find your past contributions. The contributions area is the place to review edits you made; it is not a public list of every user’s reports.
Seeing an edit in your contributions does not guarantee that Google will accept or publish it. The documented workflow does not promise a fixed review deadline, an automatic approval, or a specific message when a correction becomes visible to everyone. If the map still shows the same error, verify that you selected the correct road and correction type, then consult the available edit controls rather than submitting duplicate general feedback.
There are therefore two separate observations to record: the edit appears in your personal contributions, and the public map has—or has not—changed. The first confirms that a submission was recorded for your account. It does not prove that the correction passed review or is visible to every Maps user.

Do not use that channel as the primary route for a wrong road name, missing road, incorrect direction, or closure record. Those are map-data problems and should go through Edit the map, Add or fix a road, Update road, or the applicable data-problem workflow.
In practical terms, report the behavior of the application as product feedback, and report the facts drawn on the map as a map edit. This keeps a crash report from being confused with a bug report and keeps a missing road from being buried in general comments.
Why you may not see a report or status update
The feature is not available in your location
Google states that some incident types can be reported only in certain countries. Road corrections are also available only in some countries and regions. Country, region, platform, and vehicle integration can therefore change which buttons appear.
The condition is temporary
A slowdown, crash, object, flooded section, or visibility problem is different from a road that is permanently misdrawn. Temporary incidents are surfaced through navigation and community confirmation. They are not necessarily stored as account-linked edits.
The map edit is still under review or was not accepted
The contributions list records your edit, but Google does not promise that every submission will be published. A record in your list should not be presented as proof that the public map has changed.
You are looking for a guaranteed response time
The reviewed Google help materials do not publish a fixed incident or road-edit resolution time. Avoid treating a lack of immediate change as a definite rejection, and do not promise another user that a correction will be completed by a particular date.
You are checking the wrong place
A temporary incident is checked through the nearby prompt, while a persistent correction is checked in your own contributions list on a phone or tablet. Looking for a live incident in the edits list—or expecting a road edit to produce a Yes-or-No roadside prompt—will lead to the wrong conclusion.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A practical decision checklist
- Is the problem happening right now? Use the navigation Report control when it is safe and available.
- Are you confirming someone else’s marker? Answer Yes or No when Maps asks, “Is this still here?”
- Is the crisis experience showing a closure? Open the crisis sheet and use Navigation impact → Report road closure.
- Is the road itself wrong? Use Edit the map → Add or fix a road on desktop or Contribute → Update road on Android.
- Do you want to inspect your submission? On a phone or tablet, sign in and review past contributions in the Maps contributions area.
- Is the app malfunctioning rather than the map data being wrong? Use product feedback, while recognizing that Google does not promise immediate action.
- Are you about to interact while driving? Wait for a safe opportunity or have a passenger handle the control; safety and local law come first.
- Are you expecting a deadline? Treat any timing as uncertain because Google publishes no fixed incident or road-edit resolution time in these workflows.
What Google Maps status checking can and cannot tell you
Google Maps gives travelers two different kinds of signals. The nearby confirmation prompt tells the community whether a temporary incident still appears to be present. The contributions list lets you find your own persistent map edits on a phone or tablet. Neither is a universal case-management system with a guaranteed completion timestamp.

- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
For that reason, describe the result precisely: you confirmed or cleared a community marker; you found your submitted road edit in contributions; or the public map has not yet changed. Do not claim that Google formally resolved an incident unless the map’s current information actually supports that conclusion.
The most reliable expectation is procedural rather than time-based. Pick the workflow that matches the type of problem, submit only information you can observe accurately, use the available status signal for that workflow, and recognize that regional availability and review decisions remain outside the reporter’s control.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I report an incident on Google Maps?
While navigating in Google Maps built into a car, tap Report and choose the matching incident type, such as crash, slowdown, construction, lane closure, object on road, flooded road, low visibility, or unplowed road. Report only when it is safe, and remember that available categories vary by country.

How do I report a road closure on Google Maps?
For a closure connected to a crisis alert, open the crisis sheet, choose Navigation impact, select Report road closure, and follow the prompts. A permanently incorrect road or closure record should instead be submitted through the road-edit tools.
How can I check if a Google Maps incident is still there?
When you approach another user’s incident marker during navigation, Maps may ask, “Is this still here?” Tap Yes if the condition remains or No if it has cleared. This is community confirmation, not a personal resolution notice.
How do I check the status of a Google Maps edit?
On a phone or tablet, sign in to Google Maps, open Contribute, and find your past contributions. The list shows your submissions, but Google does not guarantee acceptance, publication, or a fixed review time.
Why can’t I find the Report button or a road-edit option?
Incident categories and road corrections are available only in certain countries or regions, and controls can differ by platform or vehicle integration. Use only the controls shown for your location rather than forcing the issue into an unrelated category.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Does Google send a resolution message for a traffic report?
Google’s documented incident workflow does not promise an account-linked ticket, case number, or resolution notification. Trip reports may be retained without being associated with the reporter’s account.
Should I use product feedback for a missing or wrongly drawn road?
No. Product feedback is for the Maps experience or bugs. A missing road, wrong name, incorrect direction, or incorrect closure record belongs in Edit the map, Add or fix a road, Update road, or the applicable data-problem workflow.
How long does Google Maps take to resolve an incident or map edit?
Google’s published help for these workflows does not provide a fixed resolution or review time. Do not promise a completion date or treat a lack of immediate map change as definite rejection.
The Bottom Line
Use Report during safe navigation for a temporary incident, answer the nearby “Is this still here?” prompt to confirm or clear a community marker, and use the crisis sheet for a crisis-linked road closure. For a lasting map error, submit a road edit and review it under Maps contributions on a phone or tablet. These paths differ by problem, platform, and region, and none comes with a guaranteed personal tracker or published resolution deadline.
