Report unsafe or misleading food through FSSAI’s Food Safety Connect portal. Register or sign in as a consumer with your email address or mobile number, verify the one-time password (OTP), choose Register New Complaint, identify the food business or concern category, attach evidence such as product photographs and a purchase bill, and submit. Keep the ticket number so you can use TRACK COMPLAINT or the Complaint Tracker later.
What Food Safety Connect is—and what it covers
Food Safety Connect is the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) online and mobile grievance system. FSSAI says the service lets citizens share food-safety concerns, understand their rights, check a Food Business Operator’s (FBO’s) licence or registration authenticity, and follow a grievance through the web application or mobile app.
The complaint system covers three broad areas:
- Packaged food: concerns about a manufactured, packed, labelled or sold food product.
- Food premises: restaurants, quick-service outlets, shops and other places handling or serving food.
- Online aggregators and food-delivery platforms: problems connected with an online food order or delivery service.
You need a valid email address or mobile number for registration and OTP verification. The portal is intended for consumer complaints; select the consumer category when signing in.
Prepare the information before you open the form
A precise complaint is easier for the business and food-safety authorities to investigate. Gather the facts that identify the product, premises or order, and preserve the evidence safely.

For a packaged-food complaint
- Product name and brand as printed on the pack.
- Batch or lot number.
- Expiry or best-before date.
- Clear photographs of the product, label, seal, batch details and any visible defect.
- The retail bill, order receipt or other proof of purchase.
- The original packaging, if retaining it is safe and practical.
For a restaurant or other premises complaint
- Name and address of the outlet or premises.
- Date and approximate time of the visit.
- What you ordered and what happened.
- Photographs of the food, premises or label, where safe and lawful to take them.
- The bill, payment record or order reference.
- The outlet’s FSSAI licence or registration number, if displayed or otherwise available.
For an online delivery or aggregator complaint
- Restaurant or seller name and delivery platform.
- Order ID, date, delivery time and delivery location.
- Images of the delivered food, packaging, seal or foreign object.
- Order receipt, invoice and relevant messages with the platform or restaurant.
- A short description of the harm, suspected contamination, missing labelling or other violation.
FSSAI specifically advises attaching an image of the product and the bill received from the retail shop when relevant. The other items above are practical documentation suggestions, not additional form requirements. Do not consume food you suspect is unsafe merely to obtain more evidence. If anyone has symptoms or may have been exposed to a serious hazard, seek medical care and mention the date, product or meal and affected people in the complaint.
How to file the complaint on the web portal
1. Open Food Safety Connect and choose consumer access
Go to the official Food Safety Connect portal and choose the consumer registration or login option. The official manual instructs users to navigate to the portal and log in to their account.
2. Register or sign in with OTP verification
If you are new to the service, enter a valid email address or mobile number. The system sends an OTP; enter it to verify the account. Existing users can sign in and select the consumer category. Use contact details you can access while filing because status notifications and account recovery depend on them.

After login, open the left-hand menu and select Register New Complaint. This starts a new case rather than opening the tracking view for an existing ticket.
4. Identify the business or choose a concern category
The portal may show the relevant FBO in its list. Select that business when it is available. If the business is not listed, choose the appropriate concern category for an unlisted FBO. Enter the outlet or premises FSSAI licence or registration number if you know it. Do not guess a number; copy it carefully from the package, bill, display or an official search result.

5. Write a factual, specific description
State what you bought or consumed, where and when you bought it, what you observed, and what evidence you have. Include batch, expiry, order or licence details in the fields provided. Separate facts from suspicions: for example, describe a broken seal, unusual odour, foreign material, missing mandatory label information or unhygienic handling rather than asserting a laboratory result you do not have. If you are asking for a particular action, state it plainly, such as inspection, clarification, corrective action or review of the product or premises.
6. Upload supporting files
Attach files in JPG, JPEG or PNG format. Product photographs and the retail purchase bill are the attachments FSSAI specifically identifies as useful. Make sure text such as the batch number and date is legible, and avoid uploading unrelated documents or images that expose another person’s private information.

Review the selected FBO or category, contact details, dates, licence or registration number, description and attachments. A submitted complaint cannot be edited according to the Food Safety Connect FAQ. If you discover an error afterward, the stated remedy is to file a fresh complaint with the corrected information.
8. Submit and record the ticket number
Submit only after the details are accurate. Save the ticket number immediately—copy it into a secure note, save the confirmation screen or retain the confirmation message. You will need the number to identify the case when checking its progress or contacting support.
Choosing the right details for each type of complaint
Packaged food: make the label and chain of purchase clear
Photograph the front and back of the package, the ingredient and allergen information, the batch or lot code, the expiry or best-before date and any damaged seal. Record where and when you bought it. If the complaint concerns an online purchase, include the order receipt and seller details; if it concerns a shop, include the retail bill. Keep the package isolated from other food if contamination is suspected, and do not send a sample unless an authority specifically requests one.

Food premises: identify the exact outlet and visit
Businesses can have multiple branches, so provide the complete address or a precise location, the date and time and the bill or order number. Describe observable conditions—such as improper storage, pests, a foreign object in a meal or a mismatch between displayed and served food. Photos should be taken without putting yourself or staff at risk and without interfering with an inspection.
Delivery and aggregator cases: connect the food to the order
Include the platform, restaurant or seller, order ID, delivery time and delivery location. Upload images before disposing of the food or packaging. Keep the digital invoice and any exchange in which you reported the issue. This lets the complaint be routed to the online aggregator or delivery platform and the underlying food business when applicable.
How to track an FSSAI complaint
Sign in to Food Safety Connect and choose TRACK COMPLAINT, or use the portal’s Complaint Tracker. Enter or select the ticket information requested. The tracking view is designed to show progress after submission, so keep the original ticket number rather than relying on a screenshot with no reference.
FSSAI’s cited FAQ does not promise a fixed resolution deadline. It says the authority makes efforts to resolve complaints promptly and provides online status tracking. A status that remains unchanged is not, by itself, a guaranteed indication that the complaint has been rejected; use the ticket details when requesting clarification through the official support route.
What happens after you submit
The first routing depends on the complaint: it is forwarded to the packaged-food business, food premises or online aggregator or delivery platform concerned, with a copy to the State Food Safety Commissioner. The business or platform therefore receives an opportunity to respond at the initial stage.

If the response is unsatisfactory, the Food Safety Connect FAQ says the complaint is forwarded to the respective state for subsequent action after a period of 15 days. The 15 days are a workflow interval for forwarding an unsatisfactory case, not a promised time for final resolution. Describe why a response is inadequate when you provide feedback, and retain the correspondence with the business or platform.

The web portal and mobile app are alternatives within the same Food Safety Connect system, not separate complaint investigations. Choose the one that makes it easiest to attach clear evidence and retain the ticket number. If the issue is already in the state follow-up stage, include the original Food Safety Connect ticket when contacting a state authority.
Official contact options when online filing is difficult
FSSAI’s grievance information lists the dedicated website, Food Safety Connect mobile app, direct helpline, email and state or Union territory food-safety authorities. The Food Safety Connect page currently shows the helpline 1800112100, available from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and the email address helpdesk-foscos@fssai.gov.in. Give the support team your ticket number if you already filed; do not send a second, conflicting version of the complaint unless you are correcting an error or following the stated escalation path.

Submitting without the ticket number
A confirmation screen can disappear when a browser is closed. Copy the number before leaving the page and store it with the bill and photographs.
Choosing the wrong business
Check the branch address, seller name and order details before selecting an FBO from the list. For an unlisted business, use the concern category and provide the identifying information in the description.

Uploading unreadable evidence
Retake photographs in good light, keep the label flat and ensure batch, date and licence text can be read. Use one clear image rather than several blurred or unrelated files.
Guessing a licence or registration number
Leave the number out if it is genuinely unavailable rather than entering an incorrect one. You can state where you looked for it and provide the premises address or product details instead.
Writing a conclusion instead of an observation
Explain what you saw, smelled, received or were told, including dates and quantities. Avoid claiming that a food contains a pathogen or chemical unless you have an authoritative test report.

Trying to edit a submitted complaint
The FAQ says submitted complaints cannot be edited. File a new complaint with the corrected details and refer to the earlier ticket where the form or support channel allows it.
Expecting an automatic deadline
FSSAI does not state a guaranteed resolution time in the cited FAQ. Track the case, respond to requests for information and use the 15-day state-forwarding process for an unsatisfactory response rather than assuming silence means closure.

- Do not handle or taste suspected contaminated food to create evidence.
