If a website or app is pretending to be ChatGPT, stop using it and report the suspicious URL or listing through OpenAI’s content reporting form. If you entered your password, API key, or payment details, secure the affected account and contact your bank about any unauthorized charge. The correct reporting route depends on what you encountered.
First, stop and check whether it is genuine
Do not enter more information, download files, or follow instructions from the suspicious page or app. Keep the URL, app-store listing, screenshots, message, and approximate time available when you report it. These details are practical preparation, not a special evidence requirement stated by OpenAI.
Verify an app or communication using the official domains, social accounts, email domains, and direct App Store and Google Play links listed in OpenAI’s Verifying Communications from OpenAI page. A familiar name or logo alone does not establish that an app or message is genuine. OpenAI says, “Never share your account login details over social media.”

| What you found | Where to report it |
|---|---|
| Suspicious website, domain, or other OpenAI-related content | OpenAI’s content reporting form |
| Conversation, shared link, GPT, or ad inside ChatGPT | Use the applicable in-product Report option, as described in OpenAI’s reporting guidance |
| ChatGPT Site | Use the Report Contact Form; OpenAI says ChatGPT Sites do not currently have an in-product reporting option |
| Counterfeit use of OpenAI trademarks or branding | Use OpenAI’s trademark and counterfeit reporting route; copyright concerns have a separate form |
| Suspicious app-store listing | Report the listing through the relevant app marketplace’s own reporting mechanism. The current marketplace-specific steps are not established here. |
For a suspicious site or domain, include its URL and the details that help identify the impersonation in OpenAI’s content reporting form. OpenAI says reported domains or content may be reviewed and mitigations may be applied, but it does not promise a specific outcome or takedown.

What a report can—and cannot—do
OpenAI provides routes for reporting suspicious content, impersonation, and account or billing activity, but a report is not a guarantee that a site or app will be removed, that money will be recovered, or that OpenAI will respond within a particular timeframe. Use the reporting route for the issue you encountered, and separately secure any account or payment information that may have been exposed.
