The Google Fitbit Edge has a user-replaceable rechargeable battery, but Google recommends professional repair unless you are an adult with technical experience repairing electronics. Google’s published safety guidance does not provide a Fitbit Edge-specific replacement sequence, so do not follow generic smartwatch teardown steps or guess how to open the device. First check Google’s current repair instructions and local parts and service availability; if those are unavailable, use a qualified repair provider.
Is the Fitbit Edge battery replaceable?
Yes. Google describes the Fitbit Edge as having a user-replaceable, built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Its safety guide identifies the battery as model GG7P2 with a capacity of 65 mAh; Google Store lists 65 mAh as the typical capacity in its technical specifications. These identifiers can help when asking about a repair, but they do not by themselves verify that a battery offered for sale is compatible.
Google advertises up to seven days of battery life, with actual life depending on settings and usage. That estimate is not a guarantee that a particular device needs a new battery; consider repair if runtime has declined or the device no longer holds a charge, after checking the applicable support guidance.

Choose a repair route before opening the device

How to check official instructions and parts availability
- Open Google’s repair resource at g.co/repair and look for guidance that explicitly covers Google Fitbit Edge. Google’s safety guide directs users there for repair instructions.
- Check whether Google or an authorized service provider offers repair or parts in your region. Repairability options and availability vary by location.
- If the official resource does not provide an Edge-specific procedure, contact Google support or a service provider rather than substituting instructions for another Fitbit model. The safety and regulatory guide identifies battery model GG7P2, but that identifier alone is not proof of compatibility for a retail part.
- If you qualify for self-repair and have confirmed the correct instructions and part, follow those instructions exactly. Google says to use authentic Google replacement parts where available. The reviewed official guidance does not establish the tools, opening method, battery-removal sequence, adhesive procedure, reassembly steps, or post-repair checks, so none should be guessed.
Safety warnings that can change the decision
If the battery looks swollen
Stop using the device and do not press the cover back into place, pry open the enclosure, or try to remove the battery. Google specifically advises against self-repair of a swollen battery and says to contact Google support.
During any authorized repair
A lithium-ion battery can cause injury if damaged or ingested. Google warns that opening or repairing the tracker can create risks including electric shock, fire, device damage, and personal injury. Do not modify, puncture, expose the battery to liquid, burn it, or heat it excessively.

When disposing of a battery or device
Follow local environmental and transport rules rather than placing the device in ordinary household waste. Google warns not to open or crush the device or battery, heat it above 113°F (45°C), or incinerate it.

Google’s documentation confirms that the battery is replaceable and sets conditions and safety warnings for repair. It does not, in the reviewed material, establish a model-specific do-it-yourself replacement walkthrough, a required tool list, a repair price, or a compatible consumer battery listing. Google’s stated principle is: “Your device’s battery should only be replaced to extend the product life.”
