For a Nintendo Switch 2, the safest route is to contact Nintendo Support or a Nintendo service center rather than open the console yourself. Nintendo says customers cannot replace the console or controller battery themselves, and its U.S. safety guidance says not to disassemble, attempt to repair, or deform the battery. What to do if your Switch 2 battery needs replacement
- Check the guidance for your region and product. Nintendo’s Japan support page specifically says customers cannot replace the Switch 2 console or controller battery and directs owners to a Nintendo service center. - If the console is damaged, power it off and disconnect accessories. Nintendo advises this before seeking support for a broken or damaged device. Do not continue using or opening a device with a damaged battery.
Why Nintendo advises against replacing the battery yourself
Nintendo’s U.S. Switch 2 health and safety page states: “Do not disassemble, attempt to repair, or deform the battery.” The warning is presented as guidance to prevent battery leakage. iFixit publishes an independent Nintendo Switch 2 battery replacement guide. It instructs readers to power off the device and discharge the battery below 25% before disassembly, to reduce fire risk if the battery is damaged. That threshold is iFixit’s repair-guide instruction, not Nintendo guidance.
