To remove Yahoo from Apple Mail on your iPhone, go to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts, select the Yahoo account, tap Delete Account (or Sign Out, if that is the option shown), and confirm. This removes the account’s connection from the iPhone; it does not close your Yahoo account. To use Gmail instead, add a Google account to Apple Mail—or use the Gmail app and add Yahoo there if you want to keep that mailbox available.
What “unlink Yahoo from iPhone to Gmail” can mean
There are two separate choices: which account you want to access and which app you want to use. Removing Yahoo from Apple Mail disconnects it from that iPhone. Adding Google to Apple Mail puts Gmail in the same Apple app. Alternatively, you can use the Gmail app and add Yahoo as a separate account if you want both inboxes there.

- Use Apple Mail for Gmail: Add a Google account in iPhone Settings.
- Use the Gmail app for Yahoo: Add Yahoo as a non-Gmail account in Gmail; IMAP support is required.
- Close your Yahoo account: That is a separate provider-level action, not something achieved by removing it from an iPhone app.
Remove Yahoo from Apple Mail on your iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Select the Yahoo account.
- Tap Delete Account or, if offered, Sign Out, then confirm the removal from the iPhone.
Apple explains that removing an email account this way “doesn’t cancel the email account; it just removes it from your iPhone.” Your Yahoo account remains separate, and this action does not remove its setup from other devices. The exact option may vary with iOS and account settings. Apple’s iPhone guide to adding and removing email accounts covers the account controls.

Add Gmail to Apple Mail
- On the iPhone, open Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Tap Add Account, then choose Google.
- Follow the Google sign-in prompts.
- Turn on Mail among the data types you want to sync, then save.
This adds the Google account to Apple Mail; it does not convert the Yahoo address or move Yahoo messages into Gmail. Google’s instructions explain how to use a Google Account with iPhone and iPad apps and select which data to sync: Use your Google Account on your iPhone or iPad. Apple notes that supported providers can often be configured automatically through the account setup flow.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Add Yahoo to the Gmail app instead
- Open the Gmail app and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Add another account, then choose Yahoo if it appears (or the relevant non-Gmail option).
- Follow the Yahoo sign-in or authorization prompts.
Gmail supports non-Gmail addresses such as Yahoo, and Google says non-Gmail setup requires IMAP. The Gmail app supports up to five email addresses. Adding Yahoo this way keeps it as a Yahoo mailbox in Gmail; it does not turn the address into a Gmail address. Google’s current steps and requirements are at Add another email account in the Gmail app on iPhone or iPad.
If Yahoo setup does not complete
- Check that the Yahoo account can use IMAP and that you are following the current Yahoo sign-in and security prompts.
- Consult Yahoo’s current mail settings rather than guessing server names or switching to an unencrypted connection as a workaround.
- If you meant to remove Yahoo from the Yahoo Mail app rather than Apple Mail, use that app’s account controls; the menus and effect are specific to the app. Yahoo documents account setup and removal in Set up or remove a Yahoo Mail account in the iOS Mail app and Add or remove email accounts in the Yahoo Mail app.
Choose the route that matches your goal
| What you want | What to do | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Use Gmail in Apple Mail | Add Google under Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts > Add Account. | Adds Google mail to Apple Mail; Yahoo remains unless you remove it separately. |
| Use Yahoo in the Gmail app | Add Yahoo from Gmail’s profile menu using Add another account. | Adds Yahoo as a separate mailbox in Gmail; IMAP is required for non-Gmail setup. |
| Stop seeing Yahoo in Apple Mail on this iPhone | Delete or sign out of the Yahoo account under Mail Accounts. | Removes its connection from this iPhone; does not close the Yahoo account. |
Neither adding Gmail nor removing Yahoo copies messages, migrates the Yahoo address, or transfers account data. If you need messages in a different account, that is a separate migration task.
