To remove God Mode from Windows 11, open File Explorer, select the God Mode folder, and press Delete. You can also right-click the folder and choose Delete. This removes the folder’s consolidated shortcut view, not the Windows settings themselves; those settings remain available through Control Panel.

What the God Mode folder is

“God Mode” is the informal name for a specially named Windows folder, usually created with the name GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}. Windows displays it as a folder that groups shortcuts to Control Panel pages and other system tools.

It is an access point rather than a separate application or Windows component. As PCWorld contributor Jon Martindale puts it, “In Windows 11, God Mode isn’t really a feature that you enable.” Removing the folder therefore does not uninstall anything.

Before you delete it

  • Find the folder’s current location. The Desktop is common, but it may have been moved to another folder or drive.
  • Make sure you are selecting the special folder itself, not one of the individual settings shortcuts shown inside it.
  • Check whether you moved any of those shortcuts elsewhere. Shortcuts copied or moved outside the main folder are separate items and are not removed when the God Mode folder is deleted.

Delete the God Mode folder in File Explorer

  1. Open File Explorer. You can press Windows key + E.
  2. Browse to the folder’s location, such as your Desktop.
  3. Click the God Mode folder once to select it.
  4. Press Delete, or right-click the selected folder and choose Delete from the context menu.
  5. If Windows displays a confirmation prompt, approve it to finish.

You do not need to open the folder or remove its contents one by one. Deleting the parent folder removes the grouped view in a single operation.

What deletion changes

Item Result after deleting the folder
The God Mode folder Removed from the location where you created it.
The grouped list of settings shortcuts No longer available through that folder.
Windows settings and Control Panel pages Remain part of Windows and can still be opened through their normal locations in Control Panel.
Shortcuts moved or copied elsewhere Remain as separate items; remove them individually if you no longer need them.

The folder does not contain a second copy of Windows settings. It simply organizes links to tools that already exist, which is why deleting it does not disable those tools.

If you cannot find the folder

It is not on the Desktop

Use File Explorer to check other locations where you normally save folders. The folder may have been renamed or moved, but its special-folder name is what gives it the settings view. Once you locate the folder, use the same Delete command.

You are looking at the contents instead of the folder

Go up one level in File Explorer so that the folder icon itself is visible. The delete command must be applied to that parent folder, not just to an individual shortcut displayed inside it.

You still want some of the shortcuts

Open the folder first and move or copy any shortcuts you intend to keep. Then return to the parent location and delete the God Mode folder. Any shortcut placed elsewhere is independent and can be managed separately.

How to recreate God Mode later

If you remove the folder and change your mind, you can create the special view again without reinstalling Windows:

  1. Go to the location where you want the view, commonly the Desktop.
  2. Right-click an empty area, choose New, and select Folder.
  3. Rename the new folder to GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}.
  4. Press Enter. Windows should convert the specially named folder into the settings-shortcut view.

The visible label may appear as “God Mode” or another display name even though the folder’s special identifier contains the text after the period. Creating a new folder with that exact identifier restores the access point; it does not create new settings or change Windows configuration.

When removal is the right choice

  • Delete it if you no longer use the consolidated settings list or want to reduce Desktop clutter.
  • Keep it if you regularly use its grouped shortcuts and do not mind the extra folder.
  • Move it to another location if you want to retain the view without keeping it on the Desktop.

In all three cases, the underlying Windows tools remain available through their ordinary Control Panel paths.
