Start with the original project, make a duplicate, and identify whether the AI voice is on its own track. If it is isolated, mute or delete that track and add narration you are authorized to use. If the voice is mixed into music or other dialogue, use stem separation or speaker separation, then expect some bleed, missing transients, or metallic artifacts. For a copy hosted by someone else, preserve evidence and use the host’s copyright, privacy, impersonation, or synthetic-media reporting process. A voice imitation can raise publicity, privacy, passing-off, performers’ rights, unfair-competition, or consumer-deception issues, depending on the jurisdiction.
Choose the right fix before editing
There are two different problems that are often called “removing an AI voice.” You may control the project and need to replace a narration track, or you may be looking at somebody else’s uploaded video and need the host to remove it. Editing solves the first problem; a platform report or legal request is usually the appropriate response to the second.

Preserve the original project and document the offending voice
Do not begin by overwriting your only project or applying an effect directly to the only media file. Audio removal is often destructive, and a failed separation may be impossible to undo once the original is gone.

Put the untouched copy in read-only storage or a clearly named archive.
- Work in a new version, for example
project_voice-replacement_v01, rather than the original timeline. - Write down the exact start and end time of each unauthorized passage. Include the speaker’s words if you can transcribe them, and note whether the voice overlaps another speaker, music, or sound effects.
- Export a short reference clip before editing. Keep its filename, creation date, and any original URL or account information if the clip came from a hosted service.
- Record what you changed in an edit decision list: source timecode, removed or retained material, replacement file, and export date.
This record helps you restore a section, explain a platform complaint, or show that the final version no longer presents the celebrity as saying the words.

Remove an isolated voice track
Open the duplicated project and inspect the timeline, mixer, and linked media. A clearly labeled narration, dialogue, or voice-over track is the clean case. Mute the track first and play the surrounding edit. If the music, effects, and picture still work, delete or disable the track only after saving the muted version.
Replace it without rebuilding the video
- Create a new dialogue or narration track directly below the removed voice.
- Record or import a voice that you have permission to use. Do not clone or deliberately imitate another identifiable person without that person’s authorization.
- Align the replacement to the existing cuts and visuals. Match the original pauses, breaths, emphasis, and approximate word timing where the picture depends on them.
- Use short audio fades at every edit. Add room tone beneath exposed gaps so the replacement does not sound pasted into a different acoustic space.
- Adjust clip gain before compression or equalization. A replacement that is technically clean but noticeably louder, brighter, or closer than the surrounding soundtrack can make the edit feel deceptive or unnatural.
You normally do not need to re-edit the whole video. Keep the existing picture and music, replace only the affected dialogue regions, and extend or trim the new clips to the same editorial boundaries.
Separate a mixed recording with Audacity
When the celebrity-like voice is baked into a stereo or mono mix, deletion is not possible without affecting neighboring sound. Audacity’s official feature documentation describes local OpenVINO AI Music Separation, which can create vocal and instrumental stems. Local processing keeps the source on your computer, but the result is not guaranteed to be transparent.
OpenVINO vocal-and-instrumental workflow
- Install a current Audacity build that includes the OpenVINO effects and launch it on the duplicated audio.
- Import the clip or the audio extracted from your duplicate video project.
- Choose the music-separation effect and select 2 stem – Vocal and Instrumental.
- Run the process and listen to both generated tracks from beginning to end. The “vocal” stem may contain parts of dialogue, reverb, backing vocals, or other centered material; the “instrumental” stem may retain fragments of speech.
- Mute or remove the vocal stem where the unauthorized voice occurs. Keep it temporarily on a hidden track if you may need to compare the separation.
- Export the instrumental or cleaned result and place it under your replacement narration in the video editor.
Use this method on a short test section first. A dense mix, heavy reverb, stereo widening, or overlapping speakers can produce warbling, watery cymbals, hollow bass, or remnants of syllables. If the artifacts are worse than the original voice, restore the untouched mix and try a professional speaker-separation workflow instead.

When Vocal Reduction and Isolation can work
Audacity’s older Vocal Reduction and Isolation effect is aimed at audio whose target vocal is concentrated in the stereo center. It can reduce a centered voice by subtracting center information, but it cannot fully remove stereo reverb and may also remove centered bass, snare, keyboards, or other important material. It is therefore useful only when the recording arrangement is suitable and the voice is not widely panned or heavily reverberated.
Preview the effect with headphones, then on ordinary speakers. If the voice becomes quieter but remains intelligible, do not keep increasing the setting: extreme subtraction often creates phasey music and still leaves recognizable words. A replacement narrator can sometimes mask a small residue more naturally than additional aggressive processing.
Separate overlapping speakers with Premiere Pro
Premiere Pro’s Separate Crosstalk analyzes a selected clip and creates separate tracks for detected speakers and background. The original clip is disabled for review, so you can compare the generated tracks before committing to an export.
What the feature is good for
- It is designed for dialogue in which speakers overlap, a situation ordinary center-channel removal cannot solve reliably.
- Separate speaker tracks let you mute the unauthorized passage while retaining another speaker’s words or the background where the analysis succeeds.
- You can edit, crossfade, and repair each generated track instead of treating the entire mix as one file.
Important constraints
- Separate Crosstalk is a premium cloud feature rather than a universally available local effect.
- Processing consumes generative credits, and access can depend on account rights, geographic availability, and the current product configuration.
- Cloud analysis means the source must be sent to the service under your organization’s privacy and rights policies. Confirm that you are allowed to upload the material.
- Speaker detection is not a legal or factual determination that the voice belongs to a particular celebrity. It only attempts to separate audio characteristics.
Run the analysis on a duplicated sequence, listen to every generated track, and retain the disabled original until the replacement has passed quality control. If the tool merges two speakers or assigns music to a speaker stem, use manual edits and room tone rather than assuming the separation is accurate.

Record and fit an authorized replacement
The safest replacement is a real performance by a narrator who has agreed to the use. A voice that merely sounds “generic” is not automatically risk-free if your script, thumbnail, or presentation suggests that a real person endorsed the statement.
Match the edit, not the celebrity
- Give the narrator the exact approved script and mark breaths, pauses, emphasis, and pronunciation.
- Record several takes at the same microphone distance and in the same room where possible. Consistent room tone makes edits less obvious.
- Align important syllables to visible mouth movements, on-screen actions, and music hits. If exact lip synchronization is impossible, revise the shot or wording instead of stretching audio unnaturally.
- Use clip-level fades and room-tone fills at every repaired boundary.
- Do not train a cloning system on the celebrity’s recordings or direct the narrator to mimic an identifiable person unless you have explicit permission and an appropriate agreement.
Quality-check the repaired video
Separation tools describe capabilities, not guaranteed removal quality. Check the complete export, not just the edit point.
- Residual identity: Listen for recognizable celebrity-like phrases, consonants, breaths, or intonation under the replacement.
- Artifacts: Watch for metallic tones, watery reverberation, chirping, pumping, abrupt noise-floor changes, and phase cancellation.
- Music: Compare percussion attacks, sustained notes, bass hits, and stereo width with the untouched reference. Missing transients can be more noticeable than a quiet voice remnant.
- Other speakers: Confirm that the process did not erase or distort dialogue that you were entitled to keep.
- Timing: Check lip-sync drift at the beginning and end of every replacement segment. A few frames of error can become obvious in a close-up.
- Playback systems: Use headphones, ordinary stereo speakers, and a phone or laptop speaker. Center-removal and phase problems can sound acceptable on one system and broken on another.
- Disclosure: Apply any synthetic-media label required by the platform, and make sure the title, thumbnail, captions, and description do not imply that the celebrity authorized the statement.
Render a new master only after the repaired version passes these checks. Keep the original project, separated stems, replacement recordings, and edit decision list with the final export.

If another account uploaded the video, do not try to alter the file through an editor. Save the evidence first, then use the host’s current reporting route. Keep the offending URL, account name, upload date, screenshots, downloaded copy where lawful, and exact timestamps.

YouTube Help documents three actions for claimed audio in a video: trim the segment, replace the song, or erase the song. Those tools are intended for the person who controls the upload and the relevant rights. As of June 2025, saved Studio Editor changes could not be reverted, so download the source or duplicate the video before saving an edit.
If the issue is an unauthorized celebrity voice in somebody else’s upload, use the report category that matches the facts, such as privacy, impersonation, copyright, or synthetic-media misuse. A copyright audio tool may not address a voice-personality complaint by itself.
TikTok
TikTok provides an online and in-app copyright-infringement report. Its policy says: “You may ask us to prevent future copies of a video from re-appearing on TikTok when you submit a report via our online Copyright Infringement Report form.” Include the precise video URLs, timestamps, proof of identity or authorization, and a concise explanation of what was copied or falsely attributed.

TikTok may not adjudicate every dispute between third parties. Submit only accurate information, retain the confirmation or case number, and use a privacy, impersonation, or synthetic-media route when that better describes the harm than copyright does.

Other hosts
Look for the service’s current privacy, impersonation, synthetic-media, or copyright form. Save the submission receipt and a copy of the offending file. If the host asks for identification or proof of authorization, provide only what is necessary through its official channel. A platform report does not replace a court order or a jurisdiction-specific legal claim.

There is no single, universal “voice copyright” rule. A 2026 legal analysis quoting Edina Harbinja of the University of Birmingham and Andres Guadamuz of the University of Sussex describes several possible theories: publicity or personality rights, privacy, passing-off or false endorsement, performers’ rights, unfair competition, and consumer deception. Which theory applies depends on the country, state or province, the person’s status, the commercial context, the wording, and whether viewers are likely to believe the celebrity participated.
That uncertainty matters for both the person whose voice was imitated and the editor making a replacement. A takedown request should identify the specific recording, the unauthorized use, the misleading representation, and the remedy sought. A lawyer in the relevant jurisdiction should assess a demand letter, platform escalation, or lawsuit; this guide is not a legal conclusion.

Choose the least destructive method that solves the actual layout. An isolated track should never be separated artificially, and a heavily overlapping mix should not be attacked with extreme center subtraction simply because it is quick.
Before you publish the replacement
- Confirm that the replacement performer, script, music, and visual assets are authorized.
- Remove old captions, subtitles, thumbnails, or descriptions that attribute the words to the celebrity.
- Check the platform’s current synthetic-media disclosure and impersonation rules for the account and region.
- Export a new master and verify the audio after upload; some platforms transcode or normalize it.
- Archive the untouched source, project versions, stems, replacement takes, evidence, and final export.
The practical verdict is straightforward: isolate and replace when the voice has its own track; use separation cautiously when it is mixed; and report someone else’s hosted copy with detailed evidence. No automated tool can promise a clean or legally sufficient result, so preserve the source, inspect the repaired audio, and avoid presenting an unauthorized imitation as the celebrity’s real statement.
