The safest way to remove bloatware from an ASUS Vivobook is to use Windows’ own uninstall controls, then reduce unnecessary startup and background activity. Do not delete ASUS folders, services, or drivers by hand. First record what each program does and whether you rely on ASUS hotkeys, diagnostics, fan or performance modes, battery-care settings, or update tools.
Removing an unused app can reclaim storage and eliminate its background processes. Disabling startup or background activity keeps an app available when you need it while reducing the work done during login and normal use. ASUS utilities are model-dependent, so the right choice is based on the exact Vivobook features you use—not on a universal list of “safe” apps.
What “bloatware” means on a Vivobook
Bloatware is software you did not choose, no longer need, or rarely use that consumes storage, launches with Windows, runs background processes, displays notifications, or duplicates tools already built into Windows. A new Vivobook may include ASUS utilities, trial applications, promotional software, and ordinary Windows components. They are not all equivalent.
Three different actions

Microsoft notes that apps running at startup can slow boot time and increase background usage. It also says that some apps continue background processes when they are not in use, and turning that activity off can improve performance. Neither statement guarantees a particular speed increase on every Vivobook.

Inventory the Vivobook before removing anything
Make a short inventory before changing software. This prevents the common mistake of removing a utility that controls a feature you use every day.
Record these details
- App name and publisher as shown in Windows.
- Whether you recognize the app and when you last used it.
- Whether it provides ASUS hotkeys, display or audio controls, fan or performance modes, battery-care features, hardware diagnostics, support, or driver and firmware updates.
- Whether the app appears in Startup Apps or has a background-permission control.
- Any settings, profiles, or data you might need to export before uninstalling.
Use a conservative decision rule
Remove software only when you can explain what it does and why you do not need it. If you are unsure, disable its startup entry first and observe the Vivobook for a few days. That approach changes less and is easy to reverse. Keep utilities tied to model-specific controls until you have confirmed that Windows or another installed tool provides the same function.

- Select Apps, then Installed apps.
- Search for the program or sort the list to find it.
- Open the app’s three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Follow the program’s removal wizard, if one appears.
- Restart Windows if the uninstaller requests it, or restart after removing several related programs so you can test the result cleanly.
If Uninstall is unavailable, the item may be a Windows component, a driver package, or an app managed by another installer. Do not force-delete its folder. Leave it in place unless you have a documented removal method for that exact program.
Use the Windows 10 equivalent
On Windows 10, open Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Select the application, choose Uninstall, and complete the prompts. The same inventory rule applies: remove clearly unwanted applications, not drivers or ASUS components whose purpose you have not verified.

Which ASUS software should you keep?
There is no model-independent list of ASUS apps that is always safe to remove. Vivobook models expose different hotkeys, cooling controls, battery settings, diagnostics, and update mechanisms. Judge each utility by the feature it supplies.

After removing or disabling an ASUS utility, test the functions you recorded: keyboard hotkeys, charging or battery-care behavior, fan modes, performance profiles, diagnostics, and update notifications. If one stops working, reinstall the utility from the support resources for your exact Vivobook model rather than downloading a similarly named package for another model.

Stop unnecessary apps from starting with Windows
Disabling startup is often the lowest-risk performance change because it keeps the application installed. ASUS recommends using Windows Startup Apps and notes that the change takes effect after the next boot.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps, then Startup.
- Sort the list by Startup impact so the entries that require the most work are easy to review.
- Turn off only programs that do not need to be ready at sign-in.
- Restart the Vivobook and check login time, notifications, hotkeys, and any device controls you use.
Keep security software, input or accessibility tools you depend on, and hardware-control utilities that must run at login. If an app is useful but not urgent, disabling its startup entry is preferable to uninstalling it.
Limit background activity
Startup and background execution are separate. An app can be absent from Startup Apps yet still perform work while it is installed.

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the application and open its three-dot menu.
- Select Advanced options, when shown.
- Under background permissions, set the option to Never for an app that does not need to run in the background.
- Open the app normally when you need it and confirm that its required functions still work.
Windows does not expose this control for every application. If Advanced options or background permissions are missing, use the app’s own settings or leave it unchanged rather than applying an unsupported workaround.

Reduce visual effects
Windows visual effects use system resources. Microsoft documents an Adjust for best performance option that reduces those effects in favor of responsiveness.
- Open Windows search and look for Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows.
- Open the matching control-panel result.
- On the Visual Effects tab, choose Adjust for best performance, or clear only the effects you do not value.
- Apply the change and use the Vivobook normally.
This can make the interface look less polished because animations, shadows, and other effects may be reduced. If the visual change is not worth it, restore the previous setting and focus on startup and background processes instead.
Use Best performance power mode selectively
When the Vivobook is plugged in and you need maximum responsiveness, open Settings > System > Power & battery and choose Best performance under the power mode control, if your Windows edition exposes it. Microsoft cautions that this mode increases power consumption; on a laptop it drains the battery faster and may make the computer run warmer.
Use a balanced or more efficient mode for battery-powered work, travel, video playback, and light tasks. Best performance is a trade-off, not a permanent cure for an overloaded startup or a failing component.

Free storage and optimize drives
Remove temporary files
Open Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files. Review the categories before selecting them, then choose Remove files. Do not select a category if you still need its contents, such as files in a downloads location that you have not backed up.
Windows also provides Disk Cleanup. Search for Disk Cleanup, select the system drive, review the categories, and confirm the cleanup. Storage cleanup can reduce pressure on a nearly full system drive, but it does not replace uninstalling an app that continuously runs background processes.
Optimize the drive
Search for Defragment and Optimize Drives, select the relevant drive, and choose Optimize. Windows applies the appropriate optimization for the drive type. Allow the process to finish without interrupting it, especially if the Vivobook is on battery power.

A clean boot is not routine debloating. It temporarily starts Windows with a reduced set of services and startup programs so you can determine whether a background item is causing slow startup, crashes, freezes, or conflicts. Microsoft warns that changing System Configuration can make a computer unusable without appropriate guidance, and that clean boot can temporarily remove functionality.

Prepare before testing
- Record every service or startup item you change.
- Save your work and make sure you know how to restart normally.
- Expect some functions, notifications, or vendor utilities to be unavailable during the test.
- Do not permanently disable a service merely because the clean-boot session appears faster.
Test methodically
- Search for and open System Configuration.
- Use its service and startup controls to hide or disable non-Microsoft items according to Microsoft’s clean-boot procedure.
- Restart and reproduce the problem.
- If the problem disappears, re-enable items in small groups and restart after each change until the conflicting program or service is identified.
- Record the result, then restore normal startup through System Configuration when diagnosis is complete.
If the issue remains in a clean boot, the cause may not be a startup application. Restore normal startup before pursuing other troubleshooting so you do not leave the Vivobook without expected services.

What to do when removal causes a problem
A hotkey, fan mode, or battery feature stopped working
Undo the most recent change first. Reinstall the ASUS utility associated with that function for the exact Vivobook model, then restart and test it. Avoid substituting a package intended for a different model.
The app is still listed after uninstalling
Restart Windows and check Installed apps again. Some uninstallers remove the main program but leave a companion component or entry. Do not delete leftover folders until you know they are not shared by another ASUS utility.
Startup is still slow
Sort Startup Apps by impact again, check for newly installed software, and review background permissions. Confirm that the system drive has reasonable free space and run the built-in storage cleanup. If the slowdown began after a specific installation or update, use a documented clean-boot test rather than removing random system components.
The Vivobook is hot or loses battery quickly
Check whether Best performance is enabled and switch to a more efficient power mode when maximum speed is unnecessary. Also review startup and background entries; a mode change cannot compensate for an application that continuously performs work.
A safe order for the whole cleanup
- Inventory applications and the ASUS features you use.
- Uninstall only clearly unwanted applications through Installed apps or Apps & features.
- Disable unnecessary Startup Apps and restart.
- Set background permissions to Never for supported apps that do not need background access.
- Clean temporary files and optimize drives.
- Use visual-effect reductions or Best performance mode only when their trade-offs suit the task.
- Use a clean boot only when you are diagnosing a specific conflict, keep a change record, and restore normal startup afterward.
These steps reduce software load without pretending that every slow Vivobook has the same cause. The searched ASUS and Microsoft guidance does not publish a universal Vivobook-specific percentage performance gain, so judge the result with practical checks: boot time, available storage, responsiveness after sign-in, battery behavior, heat, and whether the ASUS controls you rely on still work.
