To stop entering a PIN when unlocking a Samsung Galaxy, open Settings > Lock screen and AOD > Screen lock type, enter your current screen-lock credential, then choose Swipe or None if offered. Menu names vary by model, software version, and region. Swipe removes the PIN but still requires a swipe; None removes the screen lock.
Choose between Swipe and None

Samsung describes a secure screen lock as a way to help protect private information and recommends using a Pattern, PIN, or Password when protection matters. Samsung’s security guidance explains the recommendation; the current US screen-lock guide describes Swipe and None.
Turn off the screen PIN in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Lock screen and AOD. On some devices or regional software, the menu is called Lock screen.
- Tap Screen lock type.
- Enter the current PIN, password, or pattern if prompted. These steps change an existing lock through Settings; they do not bypass a forgotten credential.
- Choose Swipe to remove the PIN while retaining a swipe gesture, or choose None to remove the screen lock entirely if that option appears.
- Confirm the change if prompted, then lock the screen and test the unlock behavior.
Samsung’s Australia instructions use Settings > Lock Screen > Screen lock type, while the current US guide uses Lock screen and AOD. Older devices may use Lock screen and security > Screen lock type. Some Galaxy features rely on a secure screen-lock credential. Samsung says Extend Unlock and Secure lock settings require a secure lock, and its US guide says Secure lock settings appear only after a lock screen is created. If you remove the secure lock, expect these features to be unavailable while it is absent. Details are in Samsung’s new-device guide and screen-lock guide.

Biometrics also depend on screen-lock credentials. Samsung’s current fingerprint guidance describes that dependency. In the older Galaxy S9+ manual, changing to Swipe or None deletes biometric data; that is model-specific guidance, not a guarantee of identical behavior on every current Galaxy. Be prepared for fingerprint or other lock-dependent features to be disabled or to require setup again.
If the menu or None option is missing
- Search Settings for Screen lock type or Lock screen if the menu names differ.
- If None is not offered but Swipe is, select Swipe to stop entering the PIN while keeping a swipe gesture.
- If Settings asks for the current credential and you cannot provide it, this procedure will not remove the lock. The cited instructions do not establish a universal forgotten-PIN bypass; use official guidance for your specific model and account situation.
The setting discussed here is the device’s screen-unlock PIN. It is separate from a SIM PIN, Samsung account password, Secure Folder PIN, or an app-specific code. It is also different from the Dynamic Lock Screen wallpaper setting.
