Remove a suspicious Discord bot in two places when necessary: kick its bot account from the server, then revoke any separate authorization in User Settings > Authorized Apps. Kicking removes the server installation; it does not automatically cancel an app’s access to your personal Discord account. If you suspect your account was taken over, also reset your password, enable multi-factor authentication (MFA), and use Discord’s hacked-account support route.
First determine which access you are removing
Discord has two different app controls that are easy to confuse. A bot installed in a server appears in that server’s member list and can be removed by kicking the bot. An OAuth-authorized app is connected to your individual Discord account and appears under Authorized Apps. Deauthorizing it revokes that account-level connection, whether or not the bot still appears in a server.
| Access type | Where to find it | Revocation action | Who can perform it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server-installed bot or app | Server member list, or Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps | Kick the bot or remove the server app | Server owner or a member with Manage Server |
| Personal account authorization | User Settings > Authorized Apps | Deauthorize the app | The Discord account holder |
| Potentially compromised account or Windows device | Account security settings and the affected device | Change password, enable MFA, contact Discord support, and scan Windows when applicable | The account holder, with Discord support for recovery |
If both kinds of access apply, complete both controls. Discord’s current labels can vary slightly between desktop, browser, and mobile clients, but the underlying distinction remains the same. Discord documents the server-removal path in Using Apps on Discord and account-security actions in My Discord Account was Hacked or Compromised.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesA quick containment rule
Do not use a bot’s direct-message link to “remove” it, verify your account, or claim a reward. Open Discord yourself and use the settings paths above. If you already clicked a link or entered credentials, treat those credentials as exposed and move immediately to the account-compromise steps below.

Remove a malicious bot installed in your server
Use the server member list
- Open Discord on desktop or in a browser and enter the affected server.
- Open the server’s member list. Locate the suspicious account marked as a bot or app.
- Right-click the bot’s name and choose Kick, then confirm the removal.
Discord’s help-center instruction is to right-click the app’s bot in the Members list and kick it. Kicking removes that bot account from this server; it does not by itself deauthorize a separate connection to your personal account.
Remove it from the server integrations page
- Select the server name to open the server menu.
- Choose Server Settings.
- Open Integrations, then Bots and Apps.
- Select the unwanted app and use the available remove or uninstall control. Confirm when Discord asks.
This view is useful when the bot is difficult to spot among members or when you want to see which apps Discord records as installed on the server. The exact button wording may differ by client version. Check this page even after kicking a visible bot if you suspect an app was installed more than once or by another administrator.
Check your permission before troubleshooting
Only the server owner or a user with Manage Server permission can manage and remove server apps through these controls. If Kick or the integration-removal option is unavailable, do not keep trying alternate menus: ask the owner or a server administrator to remove the bot. If you cannot reach an administrator and the server is unsafe, leaving the server removes your participation but does not clean the server for other members.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
A regular member cannot grant themselves this permission, and a moderator role without Manage Server may still be unable to uninstall an app. Give the owner the bot’s exact display name, the channel or member-list location, and a description of what it sent or changed. Never give an administrator your password or MFA code so they can perform the removal.
What kicking does and does not undo
Kicking stops the bot from remaining as a member of that server. It does not guarantee that the bot never saw information while it was installed, and it does not undo changes it already made. It also does not revoke an app that you authorized separately on your Discord account. Treat those as separate follow-up checks.
If the bot deleted messages, changed roles, or altered channels, record what remains before making additional edits. Discord warns that material deleted after a scam-bot incident may not be restorable, so removal is containment, not a promise of data recovery.
Revoke a connected app from your Discord account
Desktop or browser procedure
- Open Discord and select the gear icon for User Settings.
- Open Authorized Apps.
- Review the list for the app or service you do not recognize, no longer use, or no longer trust.
- Select Deauthorize (or the equivalent remove control) for that app and confirm.
Discord documents Authorized Apps as the account-level place to review and revoke app access. Removing an app here is different from kicking a bot from one server: it acts on your user authorization rather than on a server membership.
Recommended Free Tools
Mobile procedure
Discord also documents the Authorized Apps path in its mobile clients. Open your profile or account settings, enter Authorized Apps, select the unwanted app, and confirm deauthorization. Menu placement can shift between iOS and Android releases, so use the settings search field if your client does not show the label immediately.
How to decide what to deauthorize
Remove entries you cannot identify, no longer use, or did not knowingly approve. Compare an app’s name with the bot or service that prompted you. A familiar brand name does not prove that a particular authorization is legitimate; use the details Discord displays and consider whether you intentionally connected it. When in doubt, deauthorize the entry and reconnect later through the service’s legitimate website or Discord’s own settings, not through a message link.
Verify the result
- Return to the Authorized Apps list and confirm the app no longer appears.
- If the app still appears, close and reopen Discord, then check again before assuming the revocation failed.
- If the app is listed under another name, compare its displayed details with the service or bot you removed from the server.
Deauthorization prevents that app from continuing to use the authorization associated with your account. It does not remove a bot installed by someone else in a server; an authorized server administrator still has to remove that installation.

For a complete cleanup, check every server where the same service may have been installed. Your account-level revocation and each server’s installation are separate records, so one successful deauthorization does not confirm that the bot is gone everywhere.

A malicious bot is not proof that your password was stolen, but unexpected messages, unauthorized account changes, or an unknown Authorized Apps entry should be treated as a security incident. Work through the following order so an attacker cannot immediately regain access.
1. Secure the email account first
If you believe someone took over Discord, check the email account associated with Discord before relying on an in-account password change. An attacker who controls that mailbox can intercept password-reset messages and recovery notices. Secure the email account using its provider’s recovery and MFA controls before continuing.
2. Change the Discord password
Reset the Discord password from the account-security controls or through Discord’s password-reset flow. Use a new password that you have not used on another service. If you cannot sign in, use Discord’s compromised-account support process rather than repeatedly attempting guesses.
3. Enable MFA
Turn on multi-factor authentication after changing the password. MFA adds a second verification step and is specifically included in Discord’s compromised-account guidance. Store recovery information somewhere you can access without leaving it in a public server or direct message.
4. Submit a hacked-account request when access was compromised
Discord directs users whose accounts were compromised or accessed by someone else to submit a hacked-account ticket through its support form. Include the account email, a concise description of what changed, and the approximate time you noticed the activity. Do not send your password or MFA codes in a ticket or to someone claiming to be support in a Discord message.
5. Scan a Windows computer if it may be involved
For a Windows device that may have been infected, Discord recommends running a scan with built-in Windows Defender. Let the scan finish, follow Windows’ remediation prompts, and restart if requested. If the suspicious activity continues after the scan, keep the device offline while you secure the account from a known-clean device and work with Discord support.
These account steps address a possible takeover; they are not substitutes for removing the bot from a server or deauthorizing an app. Complete the applicable Discord control as well. If you reused the Discord password elsewhere, change it on those services too, beginning with email and other accounts that can reset or unlock additional accounts.
See what the bot could access
Discord provides a current, bot-specific view on desktop and browser clients. Open the bot’s server profile and select Data Access. The panel explains that access depends on the bot’s settings and verification status, so do not assume every bot can see the same information.

The Data Access view is an inspection tool, not a historical audit. It shows what Discord says the bot can access under its current configuration; it cannot prove exactly which information the bot already collected before removal. Save a screenshot or note the displayed access if you need to explain the incident to the server owner or Discord support.
Access also depends on the server’s configuration and the bot’s verification status. A bot that can read metadata is not automatically able to perform every administrative action, while a bot with granted permissions may be able to change server content. Review the bot’s role and permissions separately when you have the authority to do so, but do not delay removal while trying to build a complete forensic record.
Recognize and report scam or phishing behavior
Do not follow unsolicited bot instructions
Ignore unsolicited bot direct messages offering prizes, verification, support, or other benefits when they ask you to click a link or provide information. Do not authorize an app simply because a bot claims the action is required to keep a role, access a server, or receive a reward. Open Discord settings yourself instead of using a link supplied by the bot.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Report the bot to Discord
Discord’s Trust & Safety guidance says to report a bot that asks to be added to a server or directs you to a suspicious click. Preserve the message, username, server, and link details needed for the report, but do not click the link while collecting evidence. Use Discord’s reporting route described in Scam/Phishing Bots.
Warn members without amplifying the scam
Tell affected members which bot and message to avoid, using the bot’s name and the server channel rather than reposting a dangerous URL. If the bot altered channels, roles, or messages, document what you can see before making further changes. Discord warns that content deleted after a scam-bot incident may not be restorable, so do not promise members that deleted material can be recovered.
Do not publicly share screenshots that expose members’ email addresses, authentication codes, or private messages. Give Trust & Safety the identifying information it needs through the official reporting flow, and keep your warning focused on the behavior and the safe action: do not click, authorize, or reply.
After removal: a practical verification checklist
- Confirm the bot is gone from the server member list.
- Check Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps for another installation of the same app.
- Confirm the app is absent from your personal Authorized Apps list when you revoked it.
- Review recent messages and channels for links or instructions the bot posted, and warn members not to use them.
- Check whether your account email, password, or MFA settings changed unexpectedly.
- If you suspect account takeover, complete the password, MFA, support, and Windows-scan steps rather than treating the kick as a complete remedy.
If you lack the permissions needed for any server check, give the owner or a trusted administrator the bot’s exact name, where it appeared, and the suspicious behavior. Do not hand over your password or MFA code so that someone else can “remove” it for you.
Keep the bot’s name, relevant timestamps, and a description of the affected channels until your report is submitted. This information helps distinguish a malicious app from a normal integration that a server owner still wants to retain.
Troubleshooting common removal problems
The bot does not appear in the member list
Open Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps. An app can be easier to identify there than in a busy member list. If it is absent from both places, check whether you are viewing the correct server and whether the suspicious account was a normal user rather than a bot.
You cannot kick or remove the app
Verify that you own the server or have Manage Server. Without that permission, only an owner or authorized administrator can perform the removal. Leaving the server is the available personal safety option, but it does not remove the installation for other members.

You kicked the bot, but the app remains in Authorized Apps
This is expected when both controls were used. Return to User Settings > Authorized Apps and deauthorize the app separately. Server membership and personal authorization are independent records.
You deauthorized the app, but the bot remains in the server
Ask the server owner or a member with Manage Server to kick the bot or remove it from the server integrations page. Deauthorization changes your account’s authorization; it does not uninstall an app from a server managed by someone else.
The bot sent a link before removal
Do not open the link. Report the bot through Discord’s Trust & Safety process, warn members, and treat any credentials entered on the linked page as exposed. Change the affected password from the legitimate service’s own site, not from the message. If the same password was reused, change it on every service where it appears.
You are locked out or see unauthorized account changes
Secure the associated email account, use Discord’s hacked-account support route, change the Discord password when possible, and enable MFA. On Windows, run the Defender scan Discord recommends. Account recovery takes priority over trying to manage the server yourself.
The menu label is different
Discord can adjust labels and menu placement across desktop, browser, iOS, and Android releases. Look for the equivalent Authorized Apps, Integrations, or Bots and Apps entry rather than assuming the feature is missing. If a documented path is unavailable on your client, update Discord or use the desktop/browser client for the Data Access view.
Frequently asked questions
Does kicking a Discord bot revoke its access to my account?
No. Kicking removes the bot from that server. If you authorized the app personally, revoke it separately under User Settings > Authorized Apps.
Who can remove a bot from a server?
The server owner or a member with Manage Server permission can manage and remove server apps. A regular member must contact one of them or leave the server.
Can I revoke an app without removing the server bot?
Yes. Deauthorization affects your Discord account, but the bot can remain installed for the server and its other members until an authorized administrator removes it.
Where can I see what a bot can access?
On desktop or in a browser, open the bot’s server profile and select Data Access. Discord lists baseline information such as basic member profiles, roles, message metadata, voice-channel membership metadata, reactions, and selected language, subject to the bot’s settings and verification status.

Should I buy antivirus software or a security key to remove the bot?
No purchase is required for the documented removal and deauthorization steps. Discord specifically recommends built-in Windows Defender for scanning a potentially affected Windows device. Optional security products may help your broader security, but they are not prerequisites for kicking a bot or revoking an app.
Can Discord restore messages or channels deleted by a scam bot?
Do not assume so. Discord warns that content deleted after a scam-bot compromise may not be restorable. Document the remaining evidence and report the incident instead of promising recovery.
Should I click a bot’s link to report it?
No. Ignore unsolicited links and offers, preserve the message details without opening the link, and use Discord’s official Trust & Safety reporting route.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the fastest way to remove a malicious bot from my Discord server?
Open the server, find the bot in the member list, right-click it, choose Kick, and confirm. Then check Server Settings > Integrations > Bots and Apps for the app installation.
Why is the bot still listed after I deauthorized it?
Deauthorization revokes your personal account authorization. It does not uninstall a bot from a server. A server owner or member with Manage Server must remove the server installation.
What should I do if I entered my password on a bot’s website?
Treat the password as exposed. Secure your email account, change the affected password through the legitimate service, enable MFA, and submit Discord’s hacked-account request if your Discord account was accessed.
Can a normal server member remove the bot?
Only the server owner or a member with Manage Server can manage and remove server apps. Without that permission, contact an administrator or leave the server.
Does Discord show everything a bot previously collected?
No. The Data Access panel shows the bot’s current stated access based on its settings and verification status. It is not a historical audit of information the bot may already have received.
Is third-party antivirus required after a suspicious bot incident?
No. Discord recommends running built-in Windows Defender when a Windows device may be involved. Other security tools are optional and are not required for Discord’s removal or account-recovery steps.
The Bottom Line
Kick the bot from every affected server, deauthorize the corresponding entry under User Settings > Authorized Apps, and verify both lists afterward. If your account or device may be compromised, secure email first, reset the Discord password, enable MFA, contact Discord through its hacked-account route, and run Windows Defender on an affected Windows device. Never follow unsolicited bot links, and report suspicious behavior through Discord Trust & Safety.
