To install GatorClaw using Bluehost’s documented one-click method, open Hosting > My Plans in the Bluehost Portal, manage the target VPS or VDS, and choose Server Image > Reimage. Select Applications, choose GatorClaw, type reimage when asked to confirm, and proceed. This replaces the server image and permanently erases existing data and settings, so back up anything you need before starting.
Before you reimage: understand what will be erased
Bluehost warns that “Changing the server image will permanently erase all data and settings on this VPS or VDS.” Treat this as a destructive server replacement, not an in-place GatorClaw upgrade. Bluehost also advises creating a backup of existing applications or templates before changing the image. The procedure below is for the Bluehost Portal’s VPS/VDS image workflow; it is not a generic reinstallation method for bare-metal servers. Bluehost’s GatorClaw reimage procedure was updated August 25, 2026.
- Save any files, application data, configuration, or server settings you want to retain.
- Check that GatorClaw is available among the application images for the hosting package you intend to replace.
- Plan for the server to be unavailable while the image change completes.
Reimage the Bluehost VPS or VDS
- Sign in to the Bluehost Portal and open Hosting > My Plans.
- Find the hosting package for the target VPS or VDS and choose its manage option.
- Open Server Image, then select Reimage.
- Choose Applications and select GatorClaw.
- Enter
reimagein the confirmation field and proceed with the reimage. - Wait for the operation to finish, then check that GatorClaw appears under Server Image.
Bluehost’s one-click image method supports one application at a time. If you need to keep the current server template rather than replace it with the GatorClaw image, Bluehost’s article directs users to install manually over SSH instead; the portal reimage steps above do not describe that installation.

Open the setup interface
Use the server’s IP address with port 47716 to reach the initial setup interface, and follow the wizard. Bluehost’s article identifies /setup as the path but gives inconsistent guidance about HTTP versus HTTPS. Use the scheme and complete URL shown by the provider’s live setup page rather than assuming one from an old example.

Handle the initial certificate warning carefully
Bluehost describes a temporary self-signed SSL certificate warning during initial access. Before continuing, verify that the browser is connecting to the intended server and that the warning matches the expected initial setup certificate. Do not treat bypassing certificate warnings as a generally safe practice.
Configure the model and permissions
Use the wizard to configure the AI model, automation workflows, and permissions for server actions. Model access is not automatic: for HostGator’s VPS deployment, its help article says an API key from the selected AI provider is required. That credential requirement is documented for HostGator’s service and should not be assumed to describe every GatorClaw host. HostGator’s Brazil help article also notes that some integrations may need additional permissions or external authentication.

Check the installation over SSH
For command-line checks, connect to the server over SSH on port 22. Bluehost lists these commands for checking GatorClaw and investigating its process:

gatorclaw healthchecks GatorClaw’s health.pm2 statuschecks process-manager status.pm2 logs devclawdisplays the listed process logs for troubleshooting.pm2 restart devclawrestarts that process.
Use the log command to investigate a problem before restarting the process; a restart is a corrective action, not a diagnosis.

Choose the deployment path that fits your host
The documented Bluehost procedure is a provider-portal image replacement. HostGator separately offers GatorClaw/OpenClaw VPS deployments; its product page describes self-managed plans as infrastructure-only support, leaving the customer to manage the operating system, configuration, and applications. These are different provider contexts, not interchangeable instructions. Compare whether your host offers the required application image, how much administration it expects you to handle, and whether you have the model credentials and integration access you need. The cited provider material does not establish a controlled performance comparison between deployments. HostGator’s GatorClaw VPS page provides its deployment context.
