To register a .com.br domain, check the exact name at Registro.br, confirm that the registrant meets the registry’s eligibility rules, and submit it with two configured DNS servers—or use Registro.br’s authoritative DNS where available. A foreign company can apply through a procurator legally established in Brazil; it does not automatically need to form a Brazilian company or obtain a CNPJ solely to hold the domain.
Where to register a .com.br domain
Registro.br says .br domains are registered exclusively through Registro.br or service providers. Start by searching for the exact name in Registro.br’s availability search. A name without a visible website may still be registered, and some names are reserved by the Comitê Gestor. Availability alone does not guarantee approval: the name must also comply with the registration contract. [Registro.br help]
You can submit directly to Registro.br or use a service provider. Before choosing a provider, check who will control the domain account and record, whether it supplies DNS or hosting, whether it can support a foreign-company procurator application, how it handles renewals, and the total current price. Verify those details with the provider; the official materials do not establish comparative provider prices or services.

Brazil-based registrants
Registro.br says a registrant must be legally established in Brazil and have a contact in the country. The registry’s rules determine whether a particular applicant qualifies. [Registro.br help]

Foreign companies
Registro.br separately allows a foreign company to request a domain if it has a procurator legally established in Brazil, following the registry’s procedures for foreign registration. This is the relevant route for an overseas brand: the domain rule does not, by itself, require the brand to establish a Brazilian company or obtain a CNPJ solely to own a .com.br domain. Registro.br’s help page states: “Empresas estrangeiras poderão solicitar um domínio, desde que possuam um procurador legalmente estabelecido no Brasil, de acordo com as regras descritas em: Procedimentos para registro de estrangeiros.” Consult that foreign-registration procedure directly and confirm the accepted appointment details and supporting documents before filing. The available registry guidance does not establish a complete document checklist, so do not assume specific notarization, translation, or apostille requirements.

CNPJ obligations are a separate issue from domain eligibility. Receita Federal describes enrollment requirements for foreign-domiciled entities in connection with specified assets, transactions, and investments in Brazil; its guidance does not say that every foreign brand needs a CNPJ simply to hold a .com.br domain. If the business will operate in Brazil, acquire assets, open accounts, or undertake regulated transactions, assess those activities separately with qualified legal or tax advice. - The exact .com.br name you want, checked for availability and compliance.
- The eligible registrant’s details and a contact in Brazil.
- For a foreign company, a procurator legally established in Brazil and the documents required under Registro.br’s foreign-registration procedure.
- Two configured DNS servers from your hosting or DNS provider, or a plan to use Registro.br’s authoritative DNS where available.
How to register the domain
- Check the name: Search the exact domain using Registro.br’s availability search and verify that it can be registered under the registry’s rules.
- Confirm the registrant: Identify the person or entity that will hold the domain and check that it meets Registro.br’s eligibility requirements. A foreign company should follow the foreign-registration procedure and confirm the procurator and document requirements with the registry.
- Set up DNS: Prepare two configured DNS servers. They may be supplied by a hosting provider; where supported, you can instead use Registro.br’s authoritative servers.
- Submit the request: Apply through Registro.br or a service provider, then address any registry or DNS validation issues.
- Check the commercial terms: Confirm the current registration price, renewal terms, and accepted payment methods with Registro.br before paying. These details can change and are not established here.
How DNS affects registration
Registro.br requires two configured DNS servers. If you provide custom servers and they are faulty, the registry says you have two weeks from the request date to correct them. If you provide no DNS servers of your own or from a hosting provider, and there are no other pending issues, Registro.br says it can register the domain within five minutes using its authoritative servers. Treat that as a conditional service timing, not a guaranteed completion time for every application. [Registro.br help]

Using Registro.br’s DNS can be a practical choice if you do not yet have a hosting or DNS provider. If you already use another provider, confirm that its two nameservers are configured and valid before submitting.

What to confirm with Registro.br before filing
- Whether the chosen name is available and compliant.
- Which documents and procurator details it accepts for a foreign-company application.
- Current registration and renewal prices, payment methods, and terms.
- Whether the DNS configuration is valid or Registro.br’s authoritative DNS is available for your application.
