YouTube’s documented controls can reduce Shorts recommendations, but they do not provide a guaranteed, permanent switch to block Shorts across your account. To see fewer Shorts on the app’s Home feed, open a Shorts grid, tap More, then choose Show fewer Shorts. This changes recommendations; it does not promise to remove Shorts from search or every other YouTube screen.
Use YouTube’s “Show fewer Shorts” control
- Open the YouTube app and select Home.
- Scroll until you see a Shorts grid.
- Tap More beside the grid, then tap Show fewer Shorts.
YouTube describes this as recommendation feedback. It may reduce Shorts shown in recommendations, but the Help instructions do not describe it as a permanent account-wide block. The steps are documented in YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results.
Undo the “Show fewer Shorts” choice
If you want to restore the feedback setting, open My Activity, go to Other activity, and delete the Show fewer Shorts response. This removes that recorded preference; it does not guarantee that YouTube will show Shorts at a particular rate.

Give feedback on individual videos or channels
For a specific unwanted recommendation, use Not interested. If you do not want recommendations from a particular creator, choose Don’t recommend channel where that option appears. YouTube says recommendation feedback can help tune what it suggests. These are distinct from the Shorts-grid control, and submitted feedback can be cleared through My Activity. What changing watch or search history does
YouTube says Google Account activity can affect recommendations and search results. Turning watch or search history off therefore changes inputs used for personalization and can affect related YouTube experiences. It is not documented as a way to block Shorts, so do not rely on it to remove the format from your account.
Why Shorts may still appear elsewhere
The official guidance covers recommendation feedback, not universal removal. It does not promise that Shorts will disappear from search, subscriptions, or every other YouTube surface, nor does it document a permanent account-wide Shorts-disable setting. Labels and paths can vary with device, app version, region, and product rollout. The available official instructions do not establish identical steps for Android, iPhone, desktop, and TV.

Desktop browser extensions are unofficial workarounds
Some community replies suggest extensions that hide Shorts interface elements in a desktop browser. These are third-party display workarounds, not YouTube account controls; they do not establish that Shorts are blocked on mobile, TV, or other browsers. No specific extension is verified here.
