To reduce lag and heat on the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G, start Game Turbo from the Security app, lower a demanding game’s graphics or frame-rate option when necessary, close unneeded background apps, and test long sessions while the phone is unplugged. Xiaomi says this phone is suited to casual gaming but may not be optimal for large games, and its published frame-rate limits vary by title. Charging during play can add heat, while bypass charging is presented by Xiaomi as a way to keep the phone cooler in hand; neither feature comes with an independent temperature test in the published material.
First confirm that your phone is actually the model Xiaomi calls REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G. Retail listings and everyday conversation may shorten that to “Redmi Note 17 Pro.” Check Settings > About phone and the box before applying model-specific advice. Menu names can differ by HyperOS version or region.
What to expect from this phone in games
The REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G is not a guarantee of maximum graphics or a constant high frame rate in every game. Xiaomi’s UK support FAQ says it is suitable for casual gaming but may not be optimal for large games. That is a useful expectation-setting distinction: a game can launch and remain playable while still needing conservative graphics settings during a long session.

Published frame-rate ceilings are also game-specific. Xiaomi lists up to 60 frames per second (fps) for PUBG and Call of Duty: Mobile, up to 90 fps for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and up to 60 fps for League of Legends: Wild Rift. These are Xiaomi’s stated supported limits, not independent benchmark results. Xiaomi also says the phone does not support 120 Hz high-frame-rate gaming. A 120 Hz display setting therefore should not be interpreted as a promise of 120 fps inside a game.

Actual smoothness depends on the title, how well that title is optimized for the phone, its graphics and frame-rate settings, and activity running in the background. Temperature and whether the phone is charging can change how a session feels as well.
Confirm the model and software before troubleshooting
Check the model name
- Open Settings.
- Tap About phone (the exact label can vary slightly).
- Look for the model description and confirm that it identifies the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G.
- If the name, storage configuration, or regional edition differs, treat Xiaomi’s figures in this guide as reference information rather than a promise for your exact device.
Allow for regional and software differences
Xiaomi’s specifications cited for this guide come from its India listing, while the gaming and charging answers come from Xiaomi UK support. Hardware, available settings, and wording can vary by region. The India listing identifies HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, but a phone sold elsewhere may show a different software build or receive updates at a different time. Install normal system and game updates, then recheck the relevant menus; do not assume an update will raise the published game limits.
Turn on Game Turbo through Security
Xiaomi documents Game Turbo as the phone’s gaming-optimization feature. It is intended to prioritize CPU and GPU resources for the game and reduce background activity. The documented route is:
- Open the Security app.
- Scroll down through the Security tools.
- Tap Game Turbo.
- Add the installed game if it is not already listed, then launch it from Game Turbo or use the in-game Game Turbo panel if your software provides one.
Labels and placement can change with HyperOS versions and regional builds. If you do not see Game Turbo, search the Security app’s tools rather than installing an unrelated optimizer. Xiaomi’s guidance describes the intended resource priority; it does not publish a controlled test showing a specific fps increase for every game.
Use Game Turbo as a first diagnostic
Play the same section of a game once with Game Turbo enabled and once with it disabled, keeping the graphics, frame-rate, network, and charging conditions as similar as possible. This is a practical comparison, not a laboratory benchmark. If the stutter changes only when other conditions change, the cause may be the game’s settings, background activity, or heat rather than the toggle itself.

- Rapid Cooling Down: It's the same refrigeration principle as the refrigerator, not the ordinary fan cooling,it can cool down your phone in few minutes to avoid overheat and ensure stabilize your live streaming or gaming experience.
- Universal Compatibility: This phone cooler provides two installation options – magnetic attachment and back clip fixation, making it perfect for most phone sizes. Whether you prefer the convenient magnetic snap-on or the sturdy back clip, it's designed to suit your needs.
- Wired USB-C Powered — Requires 15W+ Adapter for Peak Performance: This is a plug-in phone cooling fan, not wireless. For maximum 32°C cooling and fast frost, use a 5V/3A or 15W+ USB-C power adapter (not included) and a 3A-rated cable. The included 2A cable works for everyday cooling.
- Mute Engine Dissipation: Silent designing fan can efficiently emit wind from all sides, providing a stronger refrigeration effect, no disturbance to your gaming or your Vlog show.
- Large Cooling Area & Plug and Play: About 4.65 sq. Inches extreme thermal conductive cooling area to cover the CPU and battery module, protecting your phone from blackening or sudden shut-off. Use the C-type cable(included), plug and play.
Lower the game’s workload when frames drop
Xiaomi identifies game optimization, in-game settings, and background processes as factors in frame rate. Lowering the workload is therefore a reasonable troubleshooting step inferred from the manufacturer’s guidance, not a tested cure promised for this model.
Change one setting at a time
- Open the game’s Settings or Graphics menu.
- Keep the frame-rate option at a level the title and phone support. Do not select a 120-fps mode expecting the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G to deliver it; Xiaomi says 120 Hz high-frame-rate gaming is unsupported.
- If movement still hitches, reduce the graphics-quality preset one step.
- Disable or reduce expensive effects such as shadows, reflections, anti-aliasing, or high-resolution textures when the game exposes those controls.
- Play a repeatable scene for several minutes before changing another option. This makes it easier to identify which setting helped.
For PUBG and Call of Duty: Mobile, Xiaomi publishes up to 60 fps. For Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, it publishes up to 90 fps. For League of Legends: Wild Rift, it publishes up to 60 fps. A title may offer additional choices in its menu, but an available choice is not evidence that the phone can sustain it in every scene.

A high setting that works for the opening minutes may become unstable in a long match as the phone warms. If the game begins smoothly and later develops stutter, use a lower graphics preset or frame-rate target before assuming the phone or game is defective. Keep the setting that remains consistent through a complete match rather than the one that produces the highest initial number.
Reduce background activity before launching a game
Background processes are one of the variables Xiaomi names when explaining frame-rate differences. Close apps you do not need, especially those actively synchronizing, recording, streaming, or displaying overlays. Then launch the game through Game Turbo. This is practical guidance based on Xiaomi’s stated dependencies, not an independently measured performance gain.
- Finish large downloads and cloud backups before a long session.
- Close video, social, navigation, and camera apps that you are not using.
- Disable an overlay or screen recorder temporarily if the game stutters and you do not need it.
- Keep enough free storage for the game and its updates; avoid starting a large update during a match.
Do not repeatedly force-stop essential system services or install third-party “booster” apps simply because a game lags. They can add their own background work and make the cause harder to identify. Start with Xiaomi’s built-in Security and Game Turbo tools.

- Dual power supply design: supports powering the radiator through a mobile phone, and can also be connected to an external power source for use; When connected to an external power source, it can provide stable power to both the radiator and the phone, avoiding interruption of heat dissipation due to insufficient power during long-term use and ensuring continuous and stable heat dissipation performance.
- Silent engine cooling: The fan with dual silent design can effectively dissipate air from all directions, providing stronger cooling effect without interfering with your games or Vlog programs.
- Expanded cooling area: Approximately 2.82x1.29 inches of extreme thermal conductivity cooling area, covering the CPU and battery module, protecting your phone from blackening or sudden shutdown.
Manage charging when overheating is the main symptom
Xiaomi says the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G has temperature management for simultaneous charging and use, but also warns that prolonged use while charging may generate additional heat and potentially affect long-term battery performance. The warning does not mean every charging session is unsafe; it means charging is an extra heat source worth removing while troubleshooting.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Try a complete session unplugged
- Charge the phone before the session.
- Unplug it before launching a demanding game.
- Use the same game and graphics settings you used when the phone became hot.
- Compare how quickly heat and stutter appear.
This test can show whether simultaneous charging is contributing to the problem. It cannot guarantee a particular temperature reduction, because room temperature, case design, brightness, network activity, and the game itself also affect heat.
Understand bypass charging
Xiaomi India advertises bypass charging for this model as sending power directly to the phone’s board while the battery is charged separately, with the stated aim of keeping the phone cooler in hand during a long gaming session. That is a manufacturer product claim. The cited material does not provide an independent thermal result, a measured reduction, or a universal confirmation that the setting appears identically in every region and software version.
If your phone includes bypass charging, look for it in the available battery or charging settings, or in the Game Turbo controls while the charger is connected. Use the wording shown on your device and follow its on-screen conditions. If the option is absent, do not assume that another charging mode performs the same function.
Keep heat troubleshooting safe
- Stop the game if the phone becomes uncomfortably hot, shows a temperature warning, or behaves erratically.
- Move to a cooler, ventilated place and remove a thick case temporarily if it is trapping heat.
- Do not cool a hot phone with ice, a freezer, or liquid; condensation can damage electronics.
- Do not cover the phone’s vents, ports, or rear surface while playing.
Know the hardware context without overreading the specifications
Xiaomi India lists the following specifications for the REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G:
Rank #4
- 【20W Power Ultra-Fast Cooling】The wired magnetic phone cooler utilizes high-performance Peltier element (TEC) with high heat dissipation capacity, and its heat dissipation ability lowers the temperature of the main unit by about 95℉. NOTE: Connection to power supply required for use. Power must exceed 20W for optimal performance. Data cable not included in packag.
- 【Simple Control】The cell phone cooling fan has a built-in Type-C interface, just connect the power cord and it is ready to use. Switch between overclocking mode and silent mode with the click of a button. 12N strong magnetic force holds the phone firmly in place and prevents it from falling off.
- 【Compact and lightweight design】The Magnetic cell phone cooler weighs only 0.18 lb in a small size, leaving more space for hand operation and being without overheavy burden.
- 【Quiet Operation】This smartphone cooler adopts noise reduction design, and the operating noise in silent mode is only 30db, allowing you to play games or watch videos comfortably.
- 【Vertical Air Duct Design】The vertical air duct design of FunCooler 5 smartphone cooling fan focuses on the user's actual experience and innovative ergonomic design, which provides a comfortable grip and does not dissipate heat to the hand.
| Specification | Xiaomi India listing | What it does and does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 | Identifies the platform; it does not establish a particular game’s sustained fps. |
| Physical RAM | Up to 8 GB | More memory can help keep apps resident, but it does not guarantee high graphics performance. |
| Display refresh rate | Up to 120 Hz | Describes the display capability; Xiaomi says 120 Hz high-frame-rate gaming is not supported. |
| Battery | 9000 mAh typical capacity | Provides battery capacity context, not a promised gaming runtime or temperature. |
| Software | HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 | Identifies the listed software platform; regional builds and later updates may differ. |
These are product specifications, not independent tests of thermals, throttling, battery endurance, or game performance. A large battery or a high display-refresh specification cannot by itself prove that a demanding game will run at a high, stable frame rate.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use a repeatable troubleshooting sequence
Changing several variables at once makes lag difficult to diagnose. Use this order so each result has a clear meaning.
- Verify the model. Confirm REDMI Note 17 Pro 5G in About phone and note your HyperOS version.
- Record the symptom. Decide whether you see brief stutters, a consistently low frame rate, delayed touch response, a network disconnect, or heat that builds over time. These are different symptoms even when they feel like “lag.”
- Prepare a baseline. Use one game, one repeatable scene, a fixed brightness level, and the same network and charging state.
- Enable Game Turbo. Use Security > Game Turbo and launch the title from there.
- Remove background load. Close unneeded apps and pause downloads or recordings.
- Lower one game setting. Reduce graphics quality or choose a supported frame-rate target, then repeat the same scene.
- Test unplugged. If the phone was charging, repeat the session after it has charged and been disconnected.
- Test bypass charging only if available. Follow the control shown by your own software; do not substitute a different mode or assume identical regional behavior.
- Stop when the phone is too hot. Let it cool naturally before another test.
Match the remedy to the symptom
| What you observe | First change to make | Why this is the logical first step |
|---|---|---|
| Stutter starts immediately in a large game | Enable Game Turbo, close background apps, then lower graphics quality | Xiaomi identifies game optimization, settings, and background processes as frame-rate factors. |
| Performance is acceptable at first but worsens during a long session | Use a lower sustained setting and test while unplugged | Lower load and removing charging heat address the two controllable changes most relevant to a heat-building session. |
| The phone is hot mainly while charging | Charge first, unplug, and compare a complete session | Xiaomi warns that prolonged simultaneous charging and use may generate additional heat. |
| You expect 120-fps gaming because the display is 120 Hz | Use the game’s supported frame-rate choices instead | Xiaomi says the phone does not support 120 Hz high-frame-rate gaming. |
| Game Turbo is missing or named differently | Search the Security app and check the installed HyperOS version | Xiaomi’s documented route is through Security, but menu wording can vary by software and region. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Confusing screen refresh with game fps: a 120 Hz panel does not make a game render at 120 fps.
- Treating a published ceiling as a guarantee: up to 60 or 90 fps is a supported maximum cited by Xiaomi, not a promise that every scene will hold that rate.
- Testing while changing everything: if you alter the game preset, network, charger, brightness, and background apps at once, you cannot identify the cause.
- Assuming bypass charging has a measured result: Xiaomi describes its purpose, but the cited material contains no independent temperature benchmark.
- Continuing through excessive heat: a lower frame rate is preferable to forcing a hot device through a long session.
- Applying another region’s menu exactly: regional editions and HyperOS builds may expose different labels or controls.
What the published evidence does not establish
No controlled thermal benchmark in the cited Xiaomi material establishes a specific gaming temperature, throttling threshold, or temperature reduction from Game Turbo, unplugged play, or bypass charging. There is also no independent test here that ranks the phone’s performance across all large games. The practical steps above are designed to reduce controllable load and compare conditions; they should not be presented as guaranteed cures.
If the phone still lags after Game Turbo, background cleanup, conservative in-game settings, and an unplugged comparison, document the game title, software version, settings, charging state, and when the problem begins. That information is more useful for Xiaomi support than a general statement that the phone is “slow.”
