The fastest way to reduce reflections is to change the light that reaches the screen. Sit where you normally watch, identify the window or lamp reflected in the panel, then switch off, shade, move or redirect that source. If the room cannot be controlled, a television with an explicitly matte or anti-reflection display is the hardware solution to investigate; a brightness sensor can change luminance and colour tone, but it does not remove a reflected image.

Start with the reflection, not the television

A wall-mounted television used as art behaves like a large reflective surface. The bright shape you see is usually a window, lamp, ceiling fixture or another illuminated object in the room. The first diagnostic step is therefore visual: sit in the ordinary viewing position, look at the screen while the artwork is displayed, and identify exactly what appears in the reflection.

Check the screen from more than one seat if the room has several viewing positions. A reflection that disappears from one chair may remain prominent from another because the angle between the screen, the light source and your eyes changes. Record whether the reflected shape is a small bright point, a broad window rectangle, or a diffuse wash across the art. That observation tells you which room change is practical.

Do not confuse three different effects:

  • Reflection: a recognisable lamp, window or fixture appears on the panel.
  • Glare: bright reflected light lowers perceived contrast or makes details difficult to see.
  • Display brightness: the television changes its own luminance or colour in response to room light.

Room-light changes target the first two. A television sensor targets the third. Increasing brightness may make an image easier to see in a bright room, but it cannot erase the source reflected on the glass or display surface.

Use this room-first procedure

Work through the changes in order. Make one adjustment at a time and view the screen from the normal seat before deciding whether it helped. These are practical room-management steps based on the identified light sources, not guaranteed or independently quantified engineering fixes.

  1. Map the source. With the artwork on screen, note every bright object visible in the panel. Repeat during the day and after dark because daylight and electric lighting create different reflections.
  2. Test the easiest lamp change. Turn off a reflected lamp and look again. If the reflection disappears, move the lamp out of the screen’s line of sight, rotate its shade, or redirect its beam away from the display.
  3. Deal with windows. Close a blind, curtain or shade during the hours when the window is visible on the screen. If full closure is impractical, adjust the covering enough to block the bright portion that is reflected.
  4. Redirect nearby fixtures. Re-aim adjustable spotlights or wall lights so their bright face is not pointed toward the television. A fixture can still illuminate the room while no longer producing a distinct reflected image.
  5. Try a viewing-arrangement change. If the room allows it, move the chair or alter the television’s viewing angle so the reflected source is outside your line of sight. Treat this as a comfort and layout decision, not a promise that reflections are eliminated from every seat.
  6. Recheck at the worst time. Test the setup when the problem is normally most visible: direct daylight for a window reflection or evening operation for a lamp reflection.

Practical fixes for common reflection sources

Lamps and decorative lighting

A lamp reflected as a bright circle or vertical strip is usually the least expensive problem to address. Start by switching it off briefly; this confirms that the lamp is the source before you rearrange furniture. Then try moving the lamp sideways, farther behind the seating position, or outside the screen’s reflected field. Rotating a shade can also hide the bright bulb while retaining useful room light.

For a fixture that is mounted in the ceiling or wall, adjust its direction if the hardware permits it. The goal is not to make the room dark. It is to prevent the lamp’s bright surface from facing the screen. After every change, inspect the panel from the normal seat rather than standing directly in front of it.

Windows and daylight

Window reflections often cover a larger part of the image than a lamp. Close the window covering at the time of day when sunlight or bright sky is reflected. If the reflection is limited to one side of the window, partially shading that side may be enough. A curtain, blind or shade is a room-control measure; its effectiveness depends on the window’s position, the sun’s angle and the viewer’s seat.

Samsung identifies sunlight and lamp reflections as potential distractions for viewers. That product statement explains why finding and controlling the visible source is a sensible first step, but it does not quantify how much a particular curtain or blind will reduce glare in your room.

Multiple sources at once

If you see several reflected shapes, handle the brightest or largest one first. Turning off one lamp may reveal a weaker window reflection that was hidden by the original glare. Work through the list until the remaining reflections are acceptable during normal viewing and artwork display.

Why changing brightness is not the same as removing glare

Some art televisions include an ambient-light sensor. Samsung describes a sensor that detects room light and automatically adjusts artwork brightness and colour tone. That can help the displayed image look more natural as the room changes, but the sensor does not claim to remove a reflected window or lamp.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Samsung’s Canada product information also warns that sensor performance may vary and states that the sensor does not operate in environments above 1000 lux. Treat that as a model-specific operating qualification, not as a universal limit for every television or every sensor. If your room is very bright, rely on the actual screen finish and on controlling the source of the reflection rather than assuming an automatic mode will solve it.

When a matte or anti-reflection display is the better answer

If you cannot shade a window, relocate a fixture or change the seating arrangement, the next option is a television designed with a matte or anti-reflection screen. The surface treatment is a hardware characteristic intended to reduce visible reflections; it is different from a software picture mode and different from an ambient-light brightness sensor.

Use this option when the reflection problem is persistent, the television is already due for replacement, or the set must remain in a fixed wall-art position that faces unavoidable daylight. Replacing a working television solely for a reflection that could be removed by moving a lamp may be unnecessary. Conversely, a room with a large uncovered window directly opposite the screen may justify prioritising screen finish when you next upgrade.

What the model-specific claims show

Samsung’s Canada listing for the 75-inch LS03D identifies a Matte Display and says it helps viewers see content with less reflection. The same listing presents Unified Glare Rating (UGR) thresholds attributed to UL testing standards:

UGR category Threshold listed by Samsung for the cited LS03D listing How to interpret it
Reflection glare UGR < 10 A product-page claim for that model listing and its stated UL-testing context; not a universal result for all screens.
Discomfort glare UGR < 22 A product-page claim for the cited Matte Display, not a prediction for every room or viewing angle.
Disability glare UGR < 34 A product-page claim whose meaning depends on the stated UGR method and product context.

These figures should not be converted into a guaranteed percentage reduction in the reflections you see at home. The page supplies thresholds for the cited product and testing context, not an independent comparison of different televisions in your room.

Samsung’s US announcement for its 2025 Frame lineup says both The Frame and The Frame Pro include Anti-Reflection with Matte Display. It also describes an included Slim-Fit wall mount and an ambient-light-responsive Motion + Brightness Sensor. Those are announced lineup details, not proof that every size, later generation or regional listing has identical hardware. Confirm the exact specification for the model and market you intend to buy.

How to compare a replacement art TV

Do not assume that every television marketed for artwork has the same surface. Compare candidates using the following checklist.

Comparison point What to verify Why it matters for glare
Screen finish An explicit Matte Display, anti-reflection or equivalent manufacturer specification. A named surface treatment is stronger evidence than a generic claim that the television is suitable for art.
Exact identity Model number, model year, screen size and sales region. Features can vary by generation, size and market; a statement about one listing may not transfer to another.
Room fit Where windows and lamps sit relative to the planned wall position. A matte surface may help, but controlling a direct light source can still be the simpler solution.
Art functionality Art mode, image-upload options and any subscription or catalog requirements. The television must display the artwork you want without forcing you to accept a picture mode that changes its appearance.
Installation Mount type, wall strength, cable routing and clearance. A flush or slim installation can restrict later repositioning, so resolve the reflection geometry before drilling.
Ordinary-TV priorities Picture quality, viewing angle, speakers, inputs, operating system and energy use. An art-oriented finish should not make the set unsuitable for the way you watch television.

Look for the word “matte” or “anti-reflection” in the specification for the exact product. Do not infer it from a frame design, an art catalog or a brightness sensor. Prices and comparative performance across brands are not established here, so treat cost and conventional television performance as separate buying decisions.

Installation checks before you mount the screen

Confirm the wall position with a temporary test

Before committing to a fixed wall mount, hold a dark, screen-sized surface or the television itself in the intended position and inspect it from the main seat. The exercise is about geometry: which window or fixture appears in the same area where the display will hang? A small change in height or horizontal position can move a reflected light source out of your direct view.

Plan for the light you cannot control

Note the hours when the wall receives the strongest daylight and when evening fixtures are switched on. If the television must remain in that position, select a model whose specifications explicitly address reflections rather than assuming that a decorative frame will do so.

Keep regional specifications with the purchase record

Save the product page or manual for the exact regional model. Samsung’s Frame features differ by listing and year, and regional pages can describe different included accessories or sensor behaviour. A US announcement should not be treated as a guarantee for a Canadian, Irish or other regional SKU.

Artwork, colour and reflection are separate considerations

An art television can have strong colour credentials without eliminating room reflections. Samsung Newsroom Canada reported in 2024 that The Frame’s Art Store collection contained approximately 2,300 artworks at that time. That was a dated catalog figure, not a current count and not a glare measurement.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same 2024 announcement described validation against 2,390 colours in the Pantone Matching System. Pantone’s evaluation was conducted in standardized ambient lighting. As Iain Pike, Senior Global Director of Product and Licensing at Pantone, said: “After evaluating Samsung The Framein standardized ambient lighting, we were very pleased with the high quality of the on-screen Pantone colour reproduction.” Colour-fidelity validation can help an artwork look accurate under the test conditions, but it does not establish that the display removes reflections in a living room.

Troubleshoot by symptom

What you see Likely source or condition Next action
A distinct lamp or bulb remains visible. The lamp is in the screen’s reflected field. Switch it off to confirm, then move, shade or redirect it.
A broad bright rectangle covers the artwork during the day. Sunlight or bright sky from a window. Close or adjust the window covering during the affected hours.
The reflection changes when you move your head. Viewing angle is contributing to the visible reflection. Test a different seat or television position if the layout allows.
The image becomes brighter but the reflected object remains. An automatic brightness response, not reflection removal. Control the light source or evaluate a matte/anti-reflection display.
One seat is comfortable but another is not. Different eye-to-screen angles produce different reflections. Optimise for the primary seat and check the other positions before final installation.
The product page mentions art mode but not screen finish. The reflection-reduction specification is unconfirmed. Ask for the exact model’s display-finish specification; do not assume the feature.

What is and is not established about the fixes

The practical room steps above are logical responses to the light sources visible on the screen, but no independent quantified result establishes how much moving a lamp, shading a window or changing the seating arrangement reduces reflections for this exact wall-art use case. Your result will depend on the source’s brightness, position, surface, viewing angle and time of day.

Manufacturer descriptions establish that specific models use matte or anti-reflection displays and that some include ambient-light sensors. They do not establish a cross-brand ranking or guarantee identical performance across generations, sizes, regions or rooms. A product-page UGR threshold is therefore best treated as one specification to examine, not as a promise that your living room will be reflection-free.

A simple decision rule

  • Keep the existing television when a lamp or window can be moved, switched off or shaded and the remaining reflection is acceptable.
  • Change the room arrangement when the television is otherwise suitable but its fixed position puts a bright source directly opposite the screen.
  • Prioritise a matte or anti-reflection model when strong reflections are unavoidable, the wall position cannot change, and you are already considering replacement.
  • Verify before purchase when a listing advertises art mode, a sensor or a frame but does not explicitly state the display finish.

The most reliable workflow is to solve controllable light first, then use the exact screen-finish specification to address what the room cannot change.
