The safest way to shrink Call of Duty is to use its built-in file manager: open the game, go to Menu > Manage Files, open Manage Files again if prompted, and uninstall the campaign, multiplayer, Special Ops, or other content tiles you no longer use. For a new Black Ops 7 installation, you can also choose components before downloading on Xbox, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, or Steam. Keep every pack required by a mode you still play; removed content can be downloaded again from your platform’s Store.
Start with Call of Duty’s built-in file manager
Activision’s current file-management system is designed to separate the shared Call of Duty application from the individual games and modes stored on your drive. It lets you inspect installed content and choose whether to manage, uninstall, or install individual tiles instead of deleting folders manually. The aim is to reduce the storage used by your Call of Duty library while preserving the modes you actually play.
- Launch Call of Duty and wait for the main menu to load completely.
- Open Menu.
- Select Manage Files. Some versions show a second Manage Files selection before displaying the content list.
- Review every installed game or mode tile. Read the tile name rather than assuming that a similarly named file belongs to the mode you want.
- Open the tile’s management controls and choose Uninstall for content you no longer need. The same screen can be used to install content again later.
- Confirm the removal, allow the process to finish, and check the platform’s available-storage figure afterward.
The exact labels and tile grouping can change with a title update or platform, so the list on your own Manage Files screen is the authoritative inventory. Activision does not publish one universal gigabyte-saving figure for every Call of Duty title, update, and platform. Your saving depends on which packs are installed at the start and which ones you remove.

Remove a component only when you are willing to lose access to the associated mode until you download it again. The following guide describes the practical decision, not a universal pack list: names and dependencies differ between titles.

Older Modern Warfare documentation illustrates why deleting by filename is risky. A playable setup could depend on a combination of Data Pack 1, campaign packs, multiplayer packs, Special Ops packs, and a Survival Pack. Those names are examples of dependencies documented for older releases, not a complete list for every current Call of Duty game. Before confirming an uninstall, check whether the tile is listed as required for another mode you intend to keep.
Use the dependency check before confirming removal
A pack can look unused while supplying shared data for another mode. Treat the file manager as a dependency check, not merely a delete button.
- Identify the mode first. Decide whether you need campaign, multiplayer, Special Ops, Survival, or another installed mode.
- Open the individual tile. Read its description and any requirement message instead of relying on the word “pack” in the name.
- Remove one group at a time. Uninstalling several components in one session makes it harder to tell which removal caused a later prompt.
- Return to the mode list. Confirm that the mode you keep still appears as installed and playable.
- Test the mode after the uninstall. Start it far enough to reach its normal menu before removing another dependency.
If the game reports that a required pack is missing, stop removing files and use the same screen to identify the missing component. You can restore it through the platform Store, as described in Activision’s file-management guidance. A redownload consumes bandwidth and may require a restart or update before the mode becomes available again.

Choose only the content you need during a fresh Black Ops 7 installation
Activision documents selective installation for Black Ops 7. The controls differ by platform, so use the path that matches your installation source.
Xbox: “Choose what to install”
- Start the Black Ops 7 installation from your Xbox library or Store.
- When the installer presents Choose what to install, review the listed game and mode components.
- Clear components you do not plan to use and leave selected the modes you want available.
- Start the installation and confirm the download queue contains only the selected components.
The available choices are controlled by the current Xbox package. If a later update adds a requirement, use Call of Duty’s in-game Manage Files screen to install it.

PlayStation 5: “Install Options”
- Begin the Black Ops 7 installation on PS5.
- Open Install Options when the installer offers component selection.
- Choose the campaign, multiplayer, or other components you want stored locally.
- Confirm the installation and check the download list before leaving it unattended.
PS5’s option names are specific to the installer. A component omitted at this stage can be added later through the game’s file manager or the platform Store.
Battle.net: clear content before installation
- Open the Black Ops 7 installation flow in the Battle.net client.
- Review the component checkboxes before starting the download.
- Uncheck modes you do not need and leave the required components selected.
- Start the installation only after verifying the selection.
Battle.net exposes the choice before the download begins, which avoids downloading an unwanted component and removing it afterward.

- Open your Steam Library and locate Black Ops 7.
- Open the game’s Properties.
- Select the DLC tab.
- Use the listed selectable content to choose which components Steam should install.
- Close Properties and let Steam apply the changed download selection.
Steam’s DLC list is the installation control for the components exposed by that build. Once the game is installed, the in-game Manage Files screen remains the best place to see what the running title considers installed or required.
Reduce local storage with on-demand high-quality texture streaming
Call of Duty’s expanded texture-streaming system can move less frequently used visual content into a streaming cache instead of requiring all of that content to be downloaded directly to local storage. It trades some storage use for network bandwidth and can change how quickly high-quality assets arrive while you play.
Open the setting with this path:
Menu > Manage Files > Graphics > On-Demand High-Quality Streaming

Texture streaming is not a replacement for uninstalling a known unused campaign or multiplayer pack. It does not guarantee a fixed storage reduction, and cache behavior can change by title and update. Use it when you want to adjust the storage-bandwidth-quality balance; use Manage Files when you know a complete mode is no longer needed.
Clean up legacy files after a title migration
Activision has documented automatic cleanup for some titles that moved outside the shared Call of Duty experience and became standalone. The dates below are title-specific scheduled removals, not a promise that every old file disappears on every platform.

If duplicate or legacy files remain after one of these migrations, update both the game and the platform first. Then reopen the current Manage Files screen and compare the installed tiles with the titles you actually use. Do not manually delete folders merely because their names look old: migration behavior is title- and platform-specific, and some files can remain part of the current installation.
Compare the available ways to reduce the footprint
Each method solves a different problem. Use the following comparison to decide whether to uninstall a mode, change streaming, or select fewer components before a fresh install.

Verify the result without breaking another mode
After an uninstall or selective install, verify both the storage result and the modes you intend to keep.

- Close any running match or campaign session before changing files.
- Return to Menu > Manage Files and note which tiles are installed.
- Check the platform’s free-storage display after the uninstall completes; the figure can take a moment to refresh.
- Start each retained mode and confirm it reaches its normal menu.
- If a mode asks for a missing pack, record the exact pack name shown in the prompt and install that component rather than restoring every pack.
- Restart the game after a component change if the title does not immediately refresh its installed-state labels.
There is no official, universal before-and-after gigabyte number to use as a target. Measure the change on your own platform, because the result depends on the title, update level, language or mode components already present, and the pack selected for removal.

The uninstall option is missing
Update the game and the platform, return to the main menu, and reopen Manage Files. A stale menu can hide controls that appear after an update or restart. If the tile is still locked, it may be a dependency required by another installed mode.
The game says a required pack is missing
Use the missing-pack name in the prompt to locate the matching tile in Manage Files or the platform Store. Install that component only, then restart the game and test the mode again. Older Modern Warfare dependency documentation shows why a single data pack can be shared by more than one mode.
Storage did not increase after removal
Wait for the platform’s install process to finish, then refresh the storage view or restart the console or client. Check whether another update is downloading at the same time. If duplicate or legacy files remain, update first and inspect the current file manager rather than deleting directories manually.

That is expected. Streaming uses a cache, and the amount stored locally can vary with the title, update, and recently used content. Use the setting to control bandwidth and visual quality; use an explicit uninstall for a known unused mode.

You removed a mode and want it back
Open the platform Store or the game’s installation controls, select the missing component, and allow the redownload to complete. Keep enough free space for the component and its update, and expect the download to consume bandwidth again.
What an external drive can and cannot do
An SSD or external drive can expand the space available for Call of Duty files, subject to the platform’s compatibility and performance rules. It does not reduce the installed footprint. If the goal is specifically to free space on the current drive, remove unused content through Manage Files or select fewer components during installation. Storage expansion is a capacity solution, not a pack-removal method.
Limits of universal pack lists and size claims
Call of Duty is a family of titles distributed across multiple platforms, and its content structure changes with updates and title migrations. Activision has not published one complete pack-by-pack matrix covering every title and platform, nor one guaranteed gigabyte saving for every possible uninstall. Consequently, a list copied from an older Modern Warfare release should not be treated as a current Black Ops or Warzone installation map.
The reliable procedure is to identify the installed tile in your own game, check its stated dependencies, remove only the mode you no longer use, and verify the retained modes afterward. This approach avoids guessing from folder names and makes the change reversible through the platform Store.
