If you bought or redeemed a digital PS4 game with your current PlayStation Network account, sign in to that account and open Library > Purchased. Select the game and choose Download. A Store delisting normally stops new sales; it does not by itself remove an existing Library entitlement. If the title is missing or shows a padlock, verify the transaction, restore licenses, and check whether the access came from PlayStation Plus or another account.
What you need before trying to reinstall
Redownloading works only when the account currently signed in has an entitlement for the game. The entitlement may come from a direct purchase, a redeemed code, a PlayStation Plus benefit, or sharing from another account on the same PS4. Being able to remember the game, having played it previously, or having deleted its local files is not enough by itself.
- The PS4 must be connected to PlayStation Network and running current system software.
- You need access to the PSN account that purchased or redeemed the game, not merely an account that used to play it.
- There must be enough free space for the application and any updates or add-ons.
- For a PlayStation Plus entitlement, the subscription must be active and the game must still qualify as an available benefit.
- For shared access, the account that owns the game must have activated this PS4 as its primary PS4.
Do not purchase the game again before checking these conditions. A second account or a new transaction will not repair a license that belongs to a different account.
Redownload the game from Library
- Sign in to the owning account. On the PS4, sign out of other users if necessary and sign in to the PSN account that made the purchase, redeemed the code, or claimed the entitlement. If you are unsure which account it was, use the transaction-history check below before spending time on downloads.
- Open the purchased list. From the PS4 home screen, go to Library > Purchased. Find the delisted title, open its product page, and select Download. The title may still appear here even though searching the PlayStation Store no longer produces a purchase option.
- Wait for the download to register. Check the PS4 notification/download queue for progress. A title can take time to appear if the console is processing a large Library or rebuilding its local database.
- Install add-ons separately when needed. Open the main game’s Library or product page and use its add-on list to locate owned expansions, packs, or language files. Downloading the base application does not necessarily install every add-on.
- Start the game after installation. If the application displays a padlock or a “cannot use content” message, stop retrying the download and follow the license steps rather than deleting save data.
Deleting the installed application removes local files only. It does not, by itself, erase the purchase record or the game’s Library entry.

Confirm that the transaction belongs to this account
When a game is absent from Library > Purchased, the most useful first test is the account’s transaction record. On the PS4, open Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Transaction History. Look for the game’s purchase, code redemption, or the transaction that supplied the entitlement.
A matching transaction establishes which account owns the digital purchase. It also distinguishes a direct purchase from a PlayStation Plus claim or another type of access. If the transaction is not present, sign out and check any other PSN accounts that have been used on the console. A family member’s account, an older email address, or an account created in a different region can explain why the game is not visible to you.
Transaction history is evidence of the account and purchase path, but it does not override a subscription expiry, a sharing change, a regional restriction, or a license that has expired or been removed. Those conditions must be checked separately.
Restore licenses when the game is missing or locked
PlayStation’s PS4 license-repair procedure is Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses > Restore. Run it while signed in to the account that owns or supplies the game. The process refreshes the console’s license information; PlayStation states that it does not affect saved data.
Use this step when the game appears in the Library but shows a padlock, when an installed game suddenly reports that it cannot be used, or when a purchase is not being recognized after an account or console change. After restoration, return to the Library and try the download or launch again.
Restoring licenses cannot create an entitlement that never existed. It will not turn a PlayStation Plus benefit into a permanent purchase, bypass a subscription requirement, or restore access to a revoked account. It is a synchronization fix, not a way to recover an unrecorded purchase.

Understand which kind of access you had
The same PS4 can show similar symptoms for three different entitlement types. Identify the type before deciding what to do next.

A game that was downloaded while a Plus subscription was active is not automatically a permanent purchase. Likewise, playing a title from another household account does not transfer ownership to your own account. If the owner changes the primary-PS4 setting or loses the entitlement, the secondary account can lose access even though the application remains installed.
If the game is not in the Library
Check the account before changing the console
Compare the email address and online ID of the signed-in account with the account shown in transaction history. Do not rely on the PS4 user name alone; several local users can be linked to different PSN accounts. If the purchase was made by a parent, partner, or former console owner, that person’s account is the one that must supply the entitlement.
Check hidden items and the purchase type
Review any hidden-game view or hidden-content setting in the Library. Then determine whether the title was a direct purchase, a redeemed code, or a Plus benefit. A Plus title may disappear from usable content when the subscription is inactive, while a direct purchase should be checked against the transaction record.
Check region and edition differences
Digital entitlements are tied to the PSN account and storefront region that supplied them. A disc edition, a different regional release, or a similarly named remaster is not necessarily the same product as the item in the original transaction. Use the exact title and edition shown in the account’s history when searching the Library.

If the transaction is present but the Library entry is missing, run Restore Licenses, restart the PS4, and check Library > Purchased again. If the record still does not produce an entitlement, contact PlayStation Support with the transaction details rather than repeatedly deleting and reinstalling unrelated files.

If the game has a padlock or says it cannot be used
- Sign in to the purchasing or supplying PSN account.
- Run Settings > Account Management > Restore Licenses > Restore.
- For shared access, confirm that the owner’s account has activated this PS4 as its primary PS4.
- For Plus access, confirm that the subscription is active and that the title remains an eligible benefit.
- Restart the console and launch the game again.
The padlock identifies an entitlement problem, not necessarily damaged game data. Reinstalling the application without correcting the account, subscription, or primary-console condition generally leaves the lock in place.
If the download starts and then fails
Check service and software status
First check PlayStation Network service status and install any available PS4 system-software update. A Store or account-service interruption can prevent a valid entitlement from being verified. Retry after the service is operating normally.
Check local storage and the download queue
Verify the PS4 has sufficient free space for the application, patches, and temporary installation files. If the internal drive is full, remove an unneeded local application or move compatible content to a PS4-compatible external USB drive. Deleting the local game application does not delete its Library entitlement, but you should not delete saved data unless you have separately backed it up and intend to do so.

If the official troubleshooting flow points to database problems, power the PS4 off completely, start it in Safe Mode, and choose Rebuild Database. Follow the on-screen instructions and do not interrupt the process. Rebuild Database is intended to reorganize the console’s content index; it is not a license replacement and does not change which account owns the game.
Record the failure for support
For a persistent error, note the exact error code, the screen or step where it appears, what you already tried, and the date and time of the attempt. Give those details to PlayStation Support. They are more useful than reporting only that a delisted game “will not download.”
Manage storage without losing the entitlement
PS4 storage pressure is a common reason for deleting a game that you later need to reinstall. The safe distinction is between the local application and the account license:

- Deleting the installed application frees local space.
- The purchase or qualifying entitlement remains associated with the PSN account unless its license or access condition changes.
- Saved data is separate from the application. Do not select saved-data deletion when you only intend to remove the game.
- A PS4-compatible external USB drive can provide additional space for reinstalling large games, but it cannot bypass a delisting, create a missing transaction, or recover a revoked license.
Before deleting anything, check the game’s save-data location and confirm that you have the account credentials needed to download it again. Storage expansion solves capacity; it does not solve an account or entitlement problem.
What “delisted” actually changes
A delisting means the game is no longer offered for a new purchase in the storefront. It does not automatically prove that an existing account license has disappeared. PlayStation’s storage guidance says: “Don’t worry, you won’t lose access to any deleted games — you can redownload the application from your Library whenever you like.” In practical terms, a title can be absent from Store search while remaining selectable under the owning account’s Library.
That statement should not be read as an unlimited future guarantee for every product. Sony’s March 2026 Terms say users are responsible for downloading or accessing a product before it is removed or a license expires, and Sony is not obligated to provide replacement copies for any reason. The dependable test for an individual game is therefore the owning account’s Library and transaction history, not the fact that the title was once installed or is discussed as “delisted.”
If the title still appears with a Download button, reinstall it normally. If it is absent, locked, or no longer recognized, document the transaction and follow the account and license checks above. A Store delisting alone cannot establish whether a future redownload will remain available.
Decision guide for the most common cases

What to send PlayStation Support
If the game remains unavailable after the account, transaction, license, subscription, sharing, service, software, and storage checks, prepare a concise support report:

- The PSN online ID and the region of the purchasing account.
- The game’s exact title and edition.
- The transaction-history entry or redemption information.
- The PS4 system-software version.
- The exact error message or code.
- The steps that reproduce the problem and the date and time it occurred.
- Whether the access was a direct purchase, Plus benefit, or shared-console entitlement.
Do not send your password. Support can investigate an account or transaction issue more effectively when the report identifies the entitlement type and includes the precise failure point.
Bottom line
Start with the original purchasing account and Library > Purchased. Use Transaction History to prove which account owns or supplied the game, then run Restore Licenses for missing or locked content. Treat PlayStation Plus and shared-console access as conditional entitlements, not permanent purchases. If the download fails, work through service status, system software, storage, and the Safe Mode database repair path. A delisting removes the normal new-purchase listing; it does not by itself remove a valid Library entitlement, but Sony’s March 2026 Terms do not promise replacement copies after removal or license expiry.
