How to Redeem and Download DLC on PS5, PS4, Web and App

Redeem a PlayStation DLC voucher while signed in to the account that should own the content. You can enter the code in PlayStation Store on the web, PS5, PS4, or the PlayStation App. After redemption, select Download when PlayStation offers it. If no download button appears, the voucher may unlock an in-game entitlement such as currency or a skin, or the content may be available from the game’s Library or Add-Ons area instead.

The most common causes of missing DLC are using the wrong account, a code and Store region mismatch, an incompatible physical-disc region, a season-pass item that has not released yet, or a license that needs refreshing. The checks and recovery steps below separate redemption from installation so you can identify exactly where the process stopped.

Check these details before you redeem

A voucher is consumed by the account that enters it. PlayStation says credit and content cannot be transferred between accounts, so sign in to the account that will actually play the game and keep the DLC. Do not redeem a code on a family member’s or secondary account expecting to move it later.

Code format: A standard PlayStation Store game or add-on voucher has 12 digits. A 10-digit code is a discount code applied during checkout, not a normal DLC entitlement.
Single use: A redeemed voucher cannot be used again. Check every character before submitting it.
Store region: The code must match the country/region of the PlayStation account. PlayStation does not allow an account’s region to be changed after creation.
Physical game: If the DLC is for a disc, the disc’s region must also be compatible with the account’s Store region. Check the country or region printed on the game’s packaging.
Timing: A season-pass item can be sold or granted before its actual release date. In that case, redemption succeeds but the individual add-on is not available yet.
Connection and space: Use a working PlayStation Network connection and make enough console storage available if the add-on is a downloadable file.

Where to redeem a PlayStation DLC code

Redeem on the PlayStation Store website

Open PlayStation Store in a browser and sign in to the account that should own the DLC.
Open the profile menu and select Redeem Code.
Enter the 12-digit voucher and continue. Review the account and product shown before confirming.
After confirmation, look for a Download option. If it is absent, the code may have granted an entitlement that does not use a separate download; the next section explains how to find it.

Redeem on PS5

Open PlayStation Store from the PS5 home screen.
Press Triangle to open the Store menu.
Select … (More) > Redeem Code.
Enter the 12-digit code and redeem it. Select Download if that button appears. You can also leave the Store and start the download later from the game’s Library or Add-Ons area.

Redeem on PS4

Open PlayStation Store.
Scroll to Redeem Codes.
Enter the voucher, confirm the details, and submit it.
Select Download when offered. If you skip it, use the Library or the game’s Add-Ons listing to start it later.

Redeem in the PlayStation App

Open the PlayStation App and enter its Store area.
Open the Store menu and choose Redeem Code.
Enter the voucher and confirm that the displayed account and product are correct.
Return to your console for any file download. The App may apply an entitlement without presenting a download control.

Why there may be no download button

Redemption and installation are separate. A downloadable expansion, map, character pack or other add-on normally presents a Download action. Other voucher products are delivered as account or game data and do not require a separate file.

Downloadable game add-on	A file is installed alongside the base game.	Open the game’s Library or Add-Ons area and check whether the item is downloaded. Start or resume the download there.
In-game currency or consumable	The balance or item is applied to the game account, often without a Store download.	Launch or relaunch the game and check the relevant in-game balance or inventory.
Skin or cosmetic item	The entitlement may be applied immediately; some skins still require a small download.	Relaunch the game, then check its customization or inventory screen. If the game lists a separate add-on, install that listing.
Season pass	Access to several future or released DLC packages.	Check what the pass includes and the release date of each item. Download each released package separately when required.
PlayStation Store gift card	Funds are added to the Store wallet.	Use the wallet balance to buy DLC through the Store; a gift card is not a direct DLC voucher and is not required to redeem one.

Find and install a redeemed add-on

Use the game’s Library or Add-Ons area

After redemption, open your console’s game Library and select the relevant game. Look for an Add-Ons area or a list of owned items. A redeemed expansion can show as owned but not installed; choose its download control. If the item is already installed, the Store will not offer a second download.

For a disc game, insert the same regional edition that matches the DLC. Installing an add-on does not make an incompatible base game region compatible. If the game is open while the entitlement is added, close and relaunch it so the game checks the updated license.

Verify the game edition

DLC is tied to a particular game product and region. A voucher for one edition may not apply to a different edition, remaster or platform version. Check the product name displayed when redeeming and compare it with the game installed on the console. When a disc is involved, compare the disc’s printed region with the account’s country/region before attempting repeated installations.

How season-pass DLC becomes available

A season pass is access to multiple sets of extra content, not necessarily one large download. The pass can be redeemed while some of its promised items are still unreleased. PlayStation advises checking the season-pass listing or the publisher’s release information for the exact contents and dates.

Redeem the season-pass code on the correct account.
Open the pass’s Store listing and read the included items and their release status.
When an included DLC item reaches its release date, search for that individual item in PlayStation Store.
Choose Download if the listing requires a separate installation. An item can be owned through the pass without downloading automatically.
Launch the game and reach any required story chapter, location or checkpoint. Some publishers make a released item visible only after a specified point in the game.

If a released item is still shown as purchasable, do not buy it again immediately. First confirm that you are using the account that redeemed the pass, inspect transaction history, and restore licenses as described below. What to do when a voucher will not redeem

1. Recheck the code and its status

Compare the characters on the card, receipt or message with what you entered. Remove spaces that are not part of the code, and make sure you are entering a 12-digit content voucher rather than a 10-digit checkout discount code. Confirm that the voucher has not expired and has not already been used. If the error continues, check the PlayStation Network service status before trying again; a service interruption can prevent redemption even when the code is valid.

2. Confirm the active account

Check the account name or online ID shown in the Store before submitting. Review that account’s transaction history and Library. If the transaction is present, the code was applied to that account even if you expected it elsewhere. PlayStation does not transfer redeemed funds or content between accounts, so support may not be able to move an entitlement to a different user.

3. Match the Store and game regions

The voucher’s country/region must match the PlayStation account. For disc-based DLC, the disc region must match as well. A European disc paired with a North American account, for example, can prevent the add-on from being recognized even though both the disc and code are genuine. Check the region printed on the packaging and the country/region recorded on the account; the account region itself cannot be changed.

4. Refresh the session

Sign out of PlayStation Network and sign back in to refresh the account session. On a console, restart the system and relaunch the game. These steps force the Store and game to request the current entitlement again and can resolve a delayed display without changing saved data.

5. Check release and in-game conditions

A season-pass item may not have reached its release date. A currency, consumable or skin may be present only after the game is relaunched, or only in a particular inventory, menu, location or checkpoint. Confirm the item’s release information and any publisher instructions before assuming the code failed.

Restore licenses when owned DLC is locked or missing

Restoring licenses makes the console recheck purchases and entitlements; Sony says it does not affect saved data. Use it after confirming the transaction and account, especially when an item appears in your purchase history but is locked in the game.

PS5 license restore path

Open Settings.
Select Users and Accounts.
Choose Other > Restore Licenses.
Follow the confirmation prompt, then reopen the game and check its Add-Ons area.

PS4 license restore path

Open Settings.
Select Account Management.
Choose Restore Licenses.
After the process completes, restart the game and check whether the add-on is now available.

Fix a DLC download that is stuck or absent

When the download is visible but does not progress

Pause the download and resume it.
If it remains stuck, cancel or delete the download and start it again from the game’s Library or Add-Ons area.
Check PlayStation Network service status and confirm that the console has enough free storage.
Restart the console, then retry the download while signed in to the purchasing account.

Canceling a stuck add-on download does not undo the voucher redemption; it only removes the incomplete local transfer. The entitlement remains associated with the account.

When the add-on is not listed at all

Open the game’s Store page and verify that the add-on is owned rather than merely displayed as available for purchase.
Check transaction history for the account that redeemed the code.
Restore licenses using the PS5 or PS4 path above.
Confirm the installed game edition and, for a disc, its region.
Relaunch the game after installation; some content is delivered or revealed only during a game checkpoint.

If these checks do not resolve the issue, contact PlayStation Support with the transaction details, the exact error message, the account used, and the code’s purchase information. Do not publish a full unused code in a support request or give it to another account while troubleshooting.

Redeeming a code versus buying DLC with wallet funds

A DLC voucher directly grants the specified product when redeemed. A PlayStation Store gift card instead adds money to the Store wallet, after which you purchase DLC through the normal checkout. The two code types follow different flows: a gift card is useful when you need wallet funds, but it is not a substitute for a DLC voucher and does not bypass account or region restrictions.

Quick decision checklist

Code rejected immediately: verify 12-digit format, expiry, single-use status, account region and service status.
Code accepted, no download: identify whether it grants currency, a consumable, a skin or another in-game entitlement; relaunch the game.
Owned add-on missing: inspect transaction history and the game’s Add-Ons area, then restore licenses.
Disc DLC not recognized: compare the disc region with the account and voucher region.
Season-pass item absent: check its individual release date, search for the released item, download it separately and meet any in-game progress requirement.
Download stuck: pause/resume, restart or delete and restart the download, check storage and service status.
