On a PS5, open PlayStation Store, press Triangle, choose … (More) > Redeem Code, enter the 12-digit voucher and select Redeem. On a PS4, open PlayStation Store, scroll to the bottom of the sidebar, choose Redeem Codes, enter the code and select Continue > Confirm or Yes. The funds or content go to the account currently signed in, and the voucher’s country or region must match that account’s PlayStation Store region.

Check these five things before entering a code
A few checks prevent the most common failed redemptions and, more importantly, keep a voucher from being credited to the wrong account.
1. Identify the code type
A normal PlayStation Store voucher has 12 digits. A 10-digit code is a discount code, not a wallet top-up or standard gift-card voucher. Discount codes are entered during checkout after you have items in your shopping cart, so they will not work in the normal Redeem Code field.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
2. Match the voucher region to the account
PlayStation Store vouchers are region-specific. The country or region printed on a physical card must match the PlayStation Store region of the account that will redeem it. An account created for one country’s Store generally cannot redeem a card issued for another country’s Store. Check the card packaging or printed country marking before scratching or exposing the code.
3. Sign in to the account that should receive the value
Redemption is permanent for the account that completes it. Sony says wallet funds and redeemed content cannot be transferred between accounts, so switch users before entering the code if another family member is meant to receive it. Verify the online ID and profile icon at the top of the Store screen rather than relying on which controller is active.
4. Confirm retailer activation
Some cards sold by retailers have no value until the register activates them. Sony indicates this on vouchers that require activation. Keep the receipt until the card has redeemed successfully; a code that was never activated must normally be resolved with the retailer that sold it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors5. Consider child-account rules
A child account does not have its own wallet or the ability to add funds directly. A wallet top-up voucher must be redeemed by the family’s manager account. The family manager can then control the child’s spending limit. Redeeming a top-up on the child’s profile will not bypass that wallet restriction.
How do I redeem a PlayStation gift card on PS5?
- Open PlayStation Store. From the PS5 home screen, select the shopping-bag PlayStation Store icon and wait for the Store home page to load.
- Open the Store menu. Press the Triangle button on the DualSense controller. This opens the Store’s side or quick menu rather than the PS5 system Control Center.
- Choose the redemption command. Select … (More), then choose Redeem Code. If you do not see it, make sure the Store itself has focus and that you have pressed Triangle while inside the Store.
- Enter all 12 digits. Type the voucher exactly as printed. Do not add spaces or punctuation. On a physical card, inspect characters that are scratched, faded or easily confused before submitting.
- Submit with Redeem. Select Redeem. The PS5 checks the code, account region, activation state and whether the voucher has already been used.
- Handle the resulting item. Wallet credit is available for a Store purchase immediately. If the code contains a game, add-on or other downloadable content, select Download to start now, or leave the confirmation screen and download it later from your Library. Items that do not require a download will not show a Download option.
If the confirmation identifies a different profile than the one intended, stop before accepting it and change users. Once accepted, the value cannot be moved to another account.

Where do I enter a PlayStation Store code on PS4?
- Launch PlayStation Store. Select the shopping-bag icon from the PS4 home screen and wait for the Store interface to appear.
- Reach the bottom of the sidebar. Use the controller to scroll down the Store’s left-hand sidebar. The redemption command is at the bottom, not in the regular game or add-on categories.
- Select Redeem Codes. Open that option to display the voucher-entry screen.
- Type the 12-digit voucher. Enter the digits exactly as printed, checking any damaged or partially hidden characters before continuing.
- Confirm the redemption. Select Continue, then choose Confirm or Yes, depending on the wording shown by your regional Store software.
- Download eligible content. For a game, add-on or other downloadable item, select Continue > Download to start immediately. You can also cancel that prompt and download the item later from the Library. Wallet credit does not require a download.
The PS4 procedure uses a different menu location from PS5, but the underlying requirements are the same: a 12-digit voucher, a matching Store region and the correct signed-in account.
Redeem without a console: web browser and PlayStation App
Using a web browser
- Open PlayStation Store in a browser and sign in to the account that should receive the money or content.
- Select your profile icon.
- Choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-digit voucher and select Continue.
The browser method is useful when a console is updating, unavailable or inconvenient. The same region, account, activation and single-use rules apply.

Using the PlayStation App
- Open the PlayStation App and sign in to the intended account.
- Select the PS Store icon.
- Open the Store menu and choose Redeem Code.
- Enter the 12-digit voucher and continue through the confirmation screen.
After a successful App or browser redemption, wallet credit is available on the account’s Store across supported devices. A content voucher can be downloaded from the console Library.
What a PlayStation Store gift card actually adds
A standard gift card adds funds to the account’s PlayStation Store wallet. Sony says wallet funds are used first when you buy eligible Store items; if the wallet does not cover the full price, another available payment method can pay the remainder.
Eligible digital purchases include games, add-ons, subscriptions, virtual currency and digital pre-orders. A gift card does not purchase a physical console, controller, accessory or other merchandise. Funds added to the wallet are not refundable under Sony’s stated wallet terms, so check the account and region before redeeming.

A content-specific voucher behaves differently from a money voucher: it grants the named game, add-on, subscription or other digital entitlement instead of increasing the wallet balance. Follow the download prompt when offered, or locate the item in the Library afterward.

Work through the causes in this order. Each check eliminates a different failure mode and avoids repeatedly submitting a code that may already have been accepted.
The digits were entered incorrectly
Re-enter the code slowly and compare every character with the card or email. If a physical card is scratched, make sure all digits are visible. A single wrong character is enough to produce an invalid-code message.
It is a 10-digit discount code
Count the characters. Ten digits identify a checkout discount, not a standard voucher. Add the intended item to your cart and enter the discount code in the checkout’s promotion or discount-code field instead of Redeem Code.
The card was not activated at purchase
Review the receipt and packaging for activation language. If the card was purchased in a shop and the register failed to activate it, return to that retailer with the receipt. Sony’s support guidance distinguishes retailer activation problems from normal account redemption errors.

The region does not match
Compare the card’s country marking with the country or region assigned to the PlayStation Store account. A foreign-region voucher cannot normally be converted, exchanged or applied to a different regional account. Purchasing a replacement card for the account’s own Store region is the practical solution when the mismatch is confirmed.
The voucher is expired or already used
Look for an expiry date or validity condition on the card. A voucher can be redeemed only once. Check the account’s transaction history to see whether the code was accepted previously, including by another person who had access to the account.
PlayStation services are temporarily unavailable
Check the current PlayStation service-status page before changing account settings or buying another card. If no outage is reported, sign out of the account, sign back in and try the redemption again. A temporary network or Store-session problem can prevent validation even when the code itself is correct.
The code was accepted but the content is missing
Check the Library and the account’s transaction history. For in-game currency or an add-on, close and relaunch the game so it refreshes the entitlement. Confirm that you are viewing the same account that redeemed the voucher; content does not appear on a different profile simply because the console is shared.
The voucher is physically damaged
For a code printed on a receipt, contact the retailer if the digits are damaged or unreadable. For another damaged voucher, retain the card, receipt and photographs of the printed details. Sony may request proof of purchase and card images when you contact PlayStation Support about a voucher problem.

Use transaction history to verify what happened
Transaction history is the best way to distinguish an unused code from a successful redemption that you are looking for in the wrong place. Sign in to the same account used during redemption and inspect its Store transactions. A wallet top-up should appear as added funds; a content voucher should identify the associated entitlement.
If the history shows the redemption but the wallet balance has not refreshed, sign out and back in, then check again. If the transaction is present and the expected game, add-on or currency remains unavailable, use the Library and relaunch the relevant game before escalating the case.
Account, region and transfer limitations
Can I redeem a gift card from another country?
Usually not. The voucher must match the account’s PlayStation Store country or region. Changing the console’s display language or physical location does not change the account region, and the account region cannot be treated as interchangeable with a card issued elsewhere.
Can I move the balance later?
No. Sony’s guidance says funds and content cannot be transferred between accounts after redemption. This includes moving a wallet top-up from one adult account to another or handing a redeemed game entitlement to a different profile.
What if several people use one console?
Before entering the code, switch to the exact account that should own the wallet funds or content. Other profiles may use some console-sharing features, but ownership remains with the account that redeemed the voucher. Keeping the receipt and noting the online ID at redemption makes later troubleshooting much easier.
Wallet spending and remaining balances
When you buy a qualifying digital item, PlayStation Store uses available wallet funds first. If the purchase price is higher than the wallet balance, the Store asks for another payment method for the difference. This allows a gift card to contribute toward a larger purchase without requiring the voucher value to equal the item’s full price.
Wallet funds are intended for PlayStation Store digital goods and services. They are not a general-purpose payment balance for physical hardware or merchandise, and Sony states that funds added to the wallet cannot be refunded. Review the final price, account and region before confirming a top-up or purchase.

- Re-enter every digit, especially on a scratched or faded card.
- Check PlayStation service status, then sign out and back in if services are operating normally.
- Review transaction history and the Library before trying to redeem again.
- For child accounts, redeem a wallet top-up on the family manager account.
- Contact the retailer for an unactivated or damaged receipt code; otherwise contact PlayStation Support with proof of purchase and card images.
For Sony’s wallet rules and supported uses, see the official wallet-funding guide. Sony’s regional gift-card information is also available on the PlayStation gift-cards page. Store labels and available options can change by locale or console software release, so use the wording displayed on your signed-in system when it differs slightly from these steps.
