Start with the Bitdefender purchase or welcome email, select GET STARTED, and sign in or create a Bitdefender Central account. The subscription is attached to that account after sign-in. If your offer contains a separate activation key instead of a checkout discount, redeem it in Bitdefender Central under My Subscriptions > Activate with code.
The correct redemption path depends on what you received
Bitdefender uses two different mechanisms that are often both called a coupon. A checkout coupon reduces the price during a purchase and normally follows the instructions in the offer or checkout page. A post-purchase activation key unlocks a subscription after payment and is entered in Bitdefender Central. There is no universal Identity Theft Protection coupon field published for every offer, so do not assume that a promotional code belongs in Central.

Offers can use different screens, prices, renewal terms, and geographic restrictions. The email or receipt tied to your purchase is the authoritative instruction for that specific promotion.

- Access to the purchase or welcome email, including the exact account or offer instructions.
- An existing Bitdefender Central account, or an email address you will use to create one.
- A reliable internet connection and a current web browser.
- The activation key, if the offer supplied one separately. Bitdefender’s activation-code tutorial describes a 10-digit key.
- The identity details requested during setup. The service requires a valid Social Security number and may ask for your name, date of birth, primary phone number, and address.
Because the setup collects highly sensitive information, check the address bar before entering anything. Use the official Bitdefender Central domain, central.bitdefender.com, and avoid entering a Social Security number into a page reached through an unexpected message or a misspelled domain.
Redeem the email-based offer step by step
1. Open the purchase or welcome email
Locate the message sent for your Identity Theft Protection purchase or offer. Bitdefender’s official setup tutorial says to select the GET STARTED button at the top of that email. This link is the normal activation route for an email-based subscription.
- Open the message and verify that it describes the Identity Theft Protection subscription you bought or were given.
- Select GET STARTED.
- Allow the link to open the Bitdefender Central sign-in page at central.bitdefender.com.
If the email contains a discount code rather than a start button, pause here and read the offer’s checkout instructions. A discount code is not automatically an activation key.
2. Sign in or create Bitdefender Central
At the Central sign-in page, use the account that should own the subscription. If you already have a Bitdefender Central account, sign in with its existing credentials. Otherwise, choose the option to create an account and complete the requested registration fields.

Account selection matters: the subscription is attached to the Central account used during activation. If you have several email addresses, check which one received the purchase confirmation and use the matching account whenever possible.
3. Accept the terms and continue
After sign-in, Bitdefender states that the subscription is automatically activated and attached to your Bitdefender Central account. Review the displayed service terms and accept them when you are ready to proceed. Continue into the Identity Theft Protection onboarding rather than closing the browser after the account sign-in.
4. Provide the requested identity information
Onboarding asks for personal information used to establish monitoring. The tutorial identifies the following fields as examples:

Enter the information exactly as requested and only on the verified Central domain. The product page says a valid Social Security number is required for this service; a made-up or incomplete value will not satisfy that requirement. Read the privacy and service terms before submitting the form so you understand how the information is used.

5. Review the resulting dashboard
When onboarding finishes, review the Identity Theft Protection dashboard. Confirm that the plan name, account email, and monitoring status correspond to your purchase. Keep the confirmation email and any order details until the dashboard and alerts are working as expected.
Redeem a separate activation key in Bitdefender Central
Use this route only when the offer supplied a key intended for post-purchase activation. It is different from entering a checkout coupon.
- Go to central.bitdefender.com and sign in to the Bitdefender Central account that should receive the subscription.
- Open My Subscriptions.
- Select Activate with code.
- Enter the activation key exactly as supplied. Bitdefender’s activation-code tutorial specifies a 10-digit key, so check for omitted or transposed digits if the field rejects the entry.
- Submit the code and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Return to My Subscriptions and verify that the Identity Theft Protection plan appears on the intended account.
If your email calls the code a coupon but the instructions direct you to checkout, use checkout instead. If it calls the code an activation key and provides Central instructions, use Activate with code. The wording and redemption path in the offer control; do not try random fields until one accepts the code.
What happens after activation
Identity Theft Protection is designed to keep watching after the initial setup rather than provide only a one-time check. Bitdefender’s current product information describes these categories of service:

The product page also cites 5.7 million reports in a year from a 2021 Federal Trade Commission reference. That number is general identity-theft context, not a promise about the number of alerts your account will produce or the performance of a particular plan.

You never received the activation or welcome email
- Check the spam, junk, and promotions folders for the mailbox used at purchase.
- Confirm that the purchase completed and that the email address in the order record is correct.
- Look for a message containing the GET STARTED instruction or a separate activation key. A discount receipt may not contain a key.
- If the message is still missing, use Bitdefender’s official support center and choose the route for not receiving an activation code or for a common activation error.
When contacting support, have the account email and the order details requested by the support form available. Do not send a Social Security number in an ordinary email or to an unverified contact.
The GET STARTED link opens but the subscription is not visible
Sign out and check that you are using the Central account associated with the purchase. A subscription is attached to the account used after the email link is opened; signing into a different account can make the expected plan appear absent. If the correct account still does not show the subscription, contact official support with the purchase email and order information rather than buying a second plan.

The activation key is rejected
- Re-enter the key carefully, preserving every digit. The documented activation-key format is 10 digits.
- Make sure you selected My Subscriptions > Activate with code, not a checkout coupon field.
- Check the offer instructions for region, product, or account restrictions. A key for a different Bitdefender product should not be assumed to activate Identity Theft Protection.
- Verify that you are signed into the intended Central account.
- If the key still fails, use the official support route for activation errors and provide the account email, order details, and the exact error message.
The form will not accept identity information
Confirm that you are on central.bitdefender.com, that required fields are complete, and that the Social Security number is valid and entered in the requested format. If the service continues to reject the information, stop making repeated submissions and ask official support for guidance. Do not send the full number through an unsecured message.

You activated the wrong plan or used the wrong account
Do not assume that Digital Identity Protection and Identity Theft Protection are interchangeable names. Check the exact plan name shown in the email, order record, and Central dashboard. If activation went to an unintended account or the plan name does not match the purchase, contact support with both account details and the order record so they can determine the available correction.
Coupons, renewals, and regional terms
A promotional coupon can change the price at checkout without changing the normal subscription rules after the promotional period. Before submitting payment, inspect the offer for its duration, renewal price, billing interval, taxes, and cancellation terms. Do not rely on a fixed discount percentage or renewal amount unless it is shown in your own offer.
Feature availability is also conditional. Monitoring categories, restoration assistance, insurance, required information, and renewal conditions can vary by plan and geography. The phrase up to $2 million describes the advertised maximum for eligible identity-theft insurance coverage, not a guaranteed payment to every subscriber. Use the current product terms for your country and plan when making a coverage decision.
Security checklist for activation
- Follow the link from the genuine purchase or welcome email, then confirm the browser is at the official Central domain.
- Use a unique password for your Central account and enable any additional account security options offered in the account settings.
- Enter identity data only after checking the domain and reading the service terms.
- Keep the activation email, receipt, and support correspondence in a secure place.
- Never publish an activation key, order number, or Social Security number in a forum or social-media post.
- If a message pressures you to install unrelated software, pay an extra fee, or disclose credentials outside Central, stop and use the official support center instead.
When to contact Bitdefender support
Use official support when the activation email never arrives after checking all mailbox folders, when a valid-looking 10-digit key is rejected, when the subscription is attached to the wrong Central account, or when onboarding cannot validate required information. Include the Central account email, order number or receipt details, product name, and the exact error text requested by support. Share only the minimum information needed; a support request should not include your full Social Security number unless an authenticated Bitdefender process specifically asks for it.
