A confirmed Solana transfer is generally final. You cannot use a wallet app, block explorer, or sender-side command to undo it. Recovery is possible only if the destination is controlled by a person, exchange, custodian, or program that can access the funds and agrees or is able to return or credit them.
Before contacting anyone, verify exactly what happened from the transaction signature. A successful transfer to an unintended but controllable address calls for a voluntary return or custodian investigation. A failed transfer may mean the assets never moved. Native SOL and SPL tokens also follow different recipient-validation rules, so the asset type matters.
What to do immediately
- Find the transaction signature. Open the sending wallet’s activity, transfer history, or withdrawal record. Solana describes the signature as the unique transaction identifier; the transaction record also shows the sender, recipient, amount, fee, timestamp, and status. - Inspect the signature on-chain. Open the signature in Solscan or Solana Explorer. Check the network, destination address, asset, amount, and whether the transaction succeeded or failed. Save the signature and a screenshot or copy of the full details.
- Classify the destination. Decide whether it belongs to a person you know, an exchange or other custodian, a program, or nobody you can identify. A public address by itself does not reveal its owner.
- Contact only the party that controls the destination. Ask a known recipient for a new return transaction. For an exchange deposit address, use the exchange’s official support site or app and request an investigation. Do not treat either route as guaranteed.
- Protect your credentials. Never disclose a seed phrase, private key, wallet backup, or remote-access code to someone promising recovery. A person without signing authority over the destination cannot retrieve the funds.
If the explorer shows a failed transaction, do not describe it as a successful wrong-address transfer. Investigate the failure details and check whether the balance was actually debited.
Can a Solana transaction be reversed?
There is no sender-side undo operation for a successfully confirmed transfer described in the official guidance. Solana’s user documentation states, “Remember: transactions cannot be reversed.” The practical consequence is that the recipient’s signing authority, not the sender’s wallet, determines whether assets can move again.

Solscan makes the same limitation explicit: “We cannot refund your transactions.” Its information center explains that the explorer displays and interprets on-chain activity but does not store private keys, process transactions, control transactions, troubleshoot failures, or issue refunds. Use an explorer to establish evidence and status, not as a recovery service. See Solscan’s explanation of wrong-address transfers (published May 29, 2024).
A return, when it happens, is a separate transaction signed by whoever controls the receiving account. It is not a reversal of the original transaction, and the original signature remains part of the permanent ledger history.
Why the asset type changes the outcome
Solana’s address-verification documentation distinguishes native SOL from SPL tokens. The distinction explains why some apparently wrong token transfers fail safely while a native-SOL transfer can succeed into an account that cannot send the SOL back.

Native SOL sent to an unusable account
When native SOL is sent to a token account, mint account, program, or program-derived address, the transaction may show as successful because the System Program accepted the lamport transfer. The account’s owner controls subsequent instructions. If that owner has no instruction for withdrawing the lamports, the sender and an ordinary wallet cannot recover them. This is a protocol-level access issue, not a missing button in the sending wallet.
SPL tokens sent with incompatible accounts
For SPL assets, the Token Program’s mint and account checks can stop an invalid transfer. A failed signature means the intended movement did not complete; it does not create a recovery case merely because an address was typed incorrectly. Review the explorer’s status and instruction details before escalating.
Recovery options by destination

How to document the transfer before contacting support
Prepare one accurate record rather than sending a series of incomplete messages. Include:
- The complete transaction signature, copied directly from the sending wallet or explorer.
- The destination address exactly as shown on-chain.
- The asset name and token mint address when the support form requests it.
- The amount and the network used.
- The date and time shown in the transaction record.
- The sending account or withdrawal account, if relevant to the service.
- The receiving account, deposit memo, tag, or order reference requested by the custodian.
- A screenshot or exported transaction view showing the signature and status, with unrelated personal information redacted.
Solana’s user guide identifies the signature, sender, recipient, amount, fee, timestamp, and status as transaction-record details. Contacting a known recipient safely
Use a private, independently verified contact method rather than replying to a public post or direct message from an unknown account. Send the recipient the transaction signature, the amount, and a new return address generated by your wallet. Verify the return address on a separate screen before they sign.
Do not ask the recipient to share a seed phrase or private key. They only need to create and sign a normal transaction from the receiving wallet. If they return the funds, inspect the new signature in an explorer and confirm the asset and amount before considering the matter closed.
If the recipient claims the wallet is inaccessible
An address may be controlled by a lost key, a damaged backup, a multisignature policy, or a program with no withdrawal instruction. You cannot solve those conditions from the sender side. Ask for the recipient’s realistic recovery route, but do not pay an unverified intermediary or provide your own credentials.
Contacting an exchange or custodian
- Open the service’s official website or app by typing the address yourself or using a saved bookmark.
- Choose the support category for a missing, incorrect, or unsupported deposit.
- Enter the signature, asset, amount, network, destination, and your account or deposit details exactly as requested.
- Explain whether the transaction was successful or failed and whether the destination was the service’s address.
- Keep the case number and reply only through the authenticated support channel.
Some platforms can identify a deposit because they control the destination wallet; others cannot credit an unsupported asset, an incorrect network, or an account type their systems do not monitor. The receiving service decides whether its technical and compliance procedures permit a return or account credit. Do not quote a guaranteed timeline, fee, or success percentage: none is established by the sources here.

What to do if the exchange says the address or network was unsupported
Ask the service to confirm which network and token standard its deposit system supports, and whether it can identify the transaction on-chain. Do not send another test transfer until the service gives written instructions through its official channel. A second transfer can create another permanent loss without improving the first case.
Wrong network or unsupported SPL token
A wallet interface can make a destination look familiar even when the network or token standard is wrong. Establish the facts from the signature first:
- Which network processed the transaction.
- Which token or native asset moved.
- Which destination address received or was supposed to receive it.
- Whether the signature succeeded or failed.
- Whether the receiving service lists that network and asset as supported.
Solana Mobile’s wallet guidance warns that exchange support differs by service and advises checking the exchange’s official documentation or support resources. It also warns that using the wrong network or sending unsupported SPL tokens to an exchange’s SOL address can cause permanent loss. If the destination is an exchange, provide the signature and full transfer details to that exchange; there is no universal recovery procedure or published success rate supported here.

Successful
A successful status means the chain accepted the transaction instructions. Confirm that the balance change and destination match the address you intended. If they do not, treat the transfer as a completed movement and pursue the destination controller, not the explorer.

Failed
A failed status means the transaction did not complete as instructed. For an SPL transfer, an account-mint mismatch or a mint-account destination can be the reason the Token Program rejected it. Check the sending wallet’s balance and any replacement transaction before assuming that funds are missing.
Successful but credited to an unexpected account type
This is the high-risk native-SOL case. The transfer can be final while the destination remains unable to authorize a withdrawal. Save the signature and identify the owning program; only that program’s supported authority path could move the lamports.
Common mistakes that make recovery harder
- Sending more funds to “unlock” the first transfer. A legitimate return does not require a fee paid to a stranger. Additional transfers are separate risks.
- Using a search result as support. Scammers imitate wallet and exchange support pages. Start from the service’s known official app or domain.
- Sharing a seed phrase or private key. Anyone with those credentials can drain the wallet; they are never required for a support ticket.
- Assuming an address belongs to a named person. Blockchain data shows addresses and transactions, not verified identity.
- Deleting the wallet or reinstalling the app. That does not alter a confirmed transaction and can make your own account harder to access if backups are incomplete.
- Confusing a failed transaction with a lost deposit. Read the status and balance changes before escalating.
Solscan’s support guidance is clear that it cannot refund transactions. Treat unsolicited “recovery agents” as unverified unless the actual destination custodian confirms the case through its authenticated support channel.
A practical decision tree
- Did the signature fail? If yes, verify that the balance was not debited and resolve the wallet or token-account error. If no, continue.
- Was the destination a normal wallet controlled by someone you know? If yes, request a voluntary return transaction. If no, continue.
- Was it an exchange or custodian deposit address? If yes, open an official support case with the complete evidence packet. If no, continue.
- Is it a program-derived address, mint account, token account, or program account? Identify the owning program and determine whether its documented authority rules provide any withdrawal or credit path. If none exists, the native SOL may be permanently locked.
- Can you identify no controlling party? Preserve the evidence and do not give credentials or money to anyone claiming they can recover the funds independently.
Preventing another wrong-address loss
- Copy an address only from a trusted source, then compare the first and last characters and the full value before signing.
- Confirm that the destination is on Solana and that the asset is supported there.
- For SPL tokens, verify the receiving token account and mint expected by the recipient service.
- For native SOL, use a System Program wallet or an unfunded on-curve address that will become one, as described in Solana’s address-verification documentation.
- Send a small practice amount only when the recipient and network explicitly support that process; a test does not make an unsupported destination safe.
- Keep the signed transaction signature and receipt until the recipient confirms the credit.
- For exchange deposits, copy the current network and asset instructions from the exchange’s official deposit screen immediately before sending.
What recovery can and cannot mean
“Recovery” may mean a known person sends a separate transaction, an exchange credits your account after investigating a deposit, or a program executes an authorized withdrawal. It does not mean editing the original transaction, asking an explorer to reverse it, or obtaining the destination’s private key from support.
The controlling fact is authority: the party that can sign for, operate, or credit the destination must choose to help and must have a technically valid way to do so. A confirmed transfer to an ordinary unintended wallet is therefore a request for cooperation, not a guaranteed technical procedure.
