You cannot recover a Pokémon after transferring it to Professor Willow in Pokémon GO. Niantic’s Pokémon GO Help Center states: “you can’t get Pokémon back after you’ve transferred them.” The game does not document an undo button, recovery window, or restoration procedure. You can still contact Niantic through in-app support to report what happened, but the support instructions explain how to open a help request, not a guaranteed way to restore transferred Pokémon.
Also, Pokémon HOME is not a workaround. A Pokémon sent from Pokémon GO to Pokémon HOME cannot be sent back to Pokémon GO, so HOME cannot retrieve one that was already transferred away in GO.
The direct answer: a completed transfer is permanent
In Pokémon GO, transferring a Pokémon to Professor Willow removes that Pokémon from your account and awards transfer Candy. Niantic describes the action as irreversible. Once the confirmation has been completed, the original Pokémon, its individual statistics, moves, level, nickname, tags and other stored details are no longer available as a Pokémon in your GO account.
This applies whether the transfer was deliberate, part of a bulk cleanup, or an accidental tap. Niantic’s transfer guidance does not identify any grace period during which a player can cancel the action. It also does not describe a restoration tool for players who changed their mind.

The Candy received for a transfer does not function as a deposit or replacement claim. Spending or retaining that Candy does not create a way to retrieve the transferred Pokémon.
What to do immediately after an accidental transfer
There is no in-game recovery command, but a few checks can prevent you from reporting the wrong problem and help you describe the incident accurately.
- Stop transferring Pokémon. Do not continue a cleanup session while trying to work out what disappeared. Further transfers make it harder to identify the specific action.
- Confirm that the Pokémon was actually transferred. Check your Pokémon storage by species, nickname, tags and recent sorting. A changed nickname, an unexpected filter, a different tag view or a full storage display can make a Pokémon appear missing when it is still present.
- Check the account and device. Make sure Pokémon GO is signed in with the same Google, Apple, Facebook or Pokémon Trainer Club account you normally use. A different login can show a different collection.
- Record the details. Write down the species, nickname, approximate Combat Power, level if known, appraisal, date and time, and whether you transferred one Pokémon or used a multi-select action. Screenshots of the storage screen, transfer confirmation or Candy total can provide context, although they cannot reverse the transfer.
- Do not treat a delayed screen update as a recovery opportunity. If the app briefly shows an old list after a connection problem, close and reopen the app, verify the account and check the collection again. If the Pokémon is absent after the account is synchronized, handle it as a completed transfer rather than waiting for an undo prompt.
These checks distinguish an account, display or synchronization issue from a transfer that the game has already recorded. They do not create a recovery window.
How to contact Niantic support
If you want Niantic to document the incident or ask whether your account has another problem, use the in-app support route described in Niantic’s “How to Contact Support” article. The current navigation is:
- Open Pokémon GO and wait for the Map View.
- Tap the Main Menu button.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Help in the upper-right corner to open the Help Center.
- Use the contact control provided in the Help Center to submit your question.
Describe this as an accidental transfer and include the information you recorded. State the account sign-in method, trainer name, trainer level, approximate time, Pokémon species and any identifying details. If several Pokémon were involved, list them separately. Be concise and factual; do not send your password, sign-in codes or payment information.

Niantic’s support instructions establish a way to contact the company. They do not state that support can restore a Pokémon removed through transfer, and the transfer article’s permanent-loss warning still applies. A reply may clarify an account or technical issue, but you should not assume that opening a ticket creates an exception to the transfer policy.
A useful support message
Hello. I accidentally transferred a Pokémon in Pokémon GO and would like to confirm whether this was recorded as a completed transfer or whether my account has another display or synchronization issue. Account sign-in method: [state the method]. Trainer name: [state the name]. Pokémon: [species, nickname and any known details]. Approximate date and time: [state the time and time zone]. I understand the Help Center says transferred Pokémon cannot normally be returned; I am reporting the incident and asking whether there is an account issue I should troubleshoot.Replace each fill-in with your own information before sending. Never include a password or a one-time authentication code.

Pokémon GO has a separate transfer connection with Pokémon HOME. Niantic’s “Sending Pokémon to Pokémon HOME” guidance says that Pokémon sent from GO to HOME cannot return to GO. That direction is one-way for the GO account.
This creates two different situations:

Moving a Pokémon to HOME is therefore not a backup operation. Do not send another Pokémon to HOME while trying to test a recovery theory; that action has its own one-way limitation from the perspective of Pokémon GO.
Transfers, safeguards and what they do not mean
Niantic’s transfer article explains that transfers free storage and award Candy. It also describes restrictions and confirmation protections around which Pokémon can be transferred. Those safeguards can stop or warn you before some actions, but they are not a recycle bin.

A warning, a favorite marker or a restriction on a particular Pokémon should be treated as a chance to review the action before confirming it. Once the transfer has been accepted, the existence of those protections does not imply that Niantic keeps a player-accessible restore copy.

If you are cleaning storage, review the selected list and remove anything uncertain before tapping the final confirmation.
How to tell a transfer from other “missing Pokémon” problems
Players sometimes report a transfer when the Pokémon is present but difficult to find. Use the following checks before concluding that data was removed.
The Pokémon is hidden by the current view
Clear search text, filters and tag views, then return to the normal Pokémon list. Check both the species and nickname. A storage list sorted by Combat Power, recent capture or another field can place the Pokémon somewhere unexpected.
You are using another account
Sign out only if necessary and verify the exact sign-in provider and account identity. Guest or alternate credentials can open a different Pokémon GO collection that does not contain the Pokémon you remember.

The app has not finished updating
Use a reliable connection, return to the Map View and reopen the Pokémon storage. If the same Pokémon remains absent after the account view is consistent, note the time and report the account behavior through Help. Avoid repeatedly reinstalling the app as a substitute for confirming the account first.
The Pokémon was transferred during a cleanup session
Review the session’s selected species and approximate time. If you transferred several Pokémon, identify which ones are absent and which remain. This gives support a precise description of the event, even though it does not change the transfer policy.
Prevention: a safer transfer workflow
Because completed transfers are permanent, prevention is more effective than trying to repair the result. Use a deliberate workflow whenever you clear storage.
- Favorite valuable Pokémon first. Use the favorite control for anything you may want to keep. Treat the marker as a visual safeguard, not a promise of restoration.
- Separate certain transfers from uncertain ones. Transfer only the clearly unwanted group, then stop. Handle unusual, high-level, event, shiny, legendary, mythical or otherwise important Pokémon in a separate review. The exact restrictions and labels can change with game updates, so read the confirmation screen rather than relying on memory.
- Transfer one uncertain Pokémon at a time. Bulk actions are efficient for obvious duplicates but increase the chance of selecting the wrong entry.
- Read the confirmation screen. Check the species, count and warning before confirming. Do not tap through a warning automatically.
- Keep storage headroom. Regularly remove genuinely unwanted Pokémon so an emergency cleanup is less likely when you are distracted or in a hurry.
- Use names or tags consistently. A clear naming and tagging convention makes a pre-transfer review faster and reduces confusion between similar Pokémon.
- Pause when the app behaves unexpectedly. If the list, connection or account appears wrong, stop the cleanup and verify the account before selecting anything.
Common misconceptions
“Can I undo the last transfer?”
Niantic does not document an undo button or a last-action recovery window for Pokémon transfers. The transfer warning is the point at which the decision must be checked.
“Will spending the Candy restore the Pokémon?”
No. Candy is the stated transfer reward; it is not a refundable deposit and cannot recreate the transferred individual.

“Can another player trade it back?”
A Pokémon removed from your account by transfer is no longer available in your collection for a trade. A different Pokémon of the same species would not be the same individual.
“Can Pokémon HOME act as a backup?”
No. GO-to-HOME transfers cannot return to GO, so HOME is not a reversible archive for Pokémon GO.
“Does contacting support guarantee an exception?”
No. The contact route lets you report the incident or ask about an account issue. The cited support guidance does not promise restoration of a transferred Pokémon.

Bottom line
A Pokémon transferred to Professor Willow cannot be recovered through a Pokémon GO setting, Candy, Pokémon HOME or a published support restoration process. Verify that the disappearance is not an account or display issue, then use the in-app Help path if you need to report the incident or ask Niantic about your account. For future cleanups, favorite important Pokémon, review selections and treat the final confirmation as permanent.
