To read Tata Elxsi’s chart reliably, first verify the NSE instrument, date, currency and timeframe, then describe price structure before adding indicators. Mark swing highs and lows, gaps, volume and support/resistance zones. Use moving averages, RSI and MACD to test that price-based view—not to replace it. A Groww snapshot captured on 16 October 2026 showed Tata Elxsi at ₹3,700, RSI(14) 70.17, MACD(12,26,9) 76.97, beta 0.99, 50-day SMA ₹3,470.90 and 200-day SMA ₹4,200.29; those figures are historical platform readings, not a live quote.
Verify that you are looking at the right Tata Elxsi security
Begin with identity rather than indicators. On an NSE chart, select the symbol TATAELXSI. The exchange record identifies the security with scrip code 500408 and ISIN INE670A01012. Confirm that the quotation is in Indian rupees, note the exchange (NSE), and write down the date and timeframe shown by the chart. This prevents a technically perfect analysis of the wrong listing, an adjusted series or an old data point.
Record whether the chart is daily, weekly or intraday before interpreting any number. A 14-period RSI on a daily chart covers roughly 14 trading sessions; on a weekly chart it covers about 14 weeks. Moving-average labels such as “50-day” have a different meaning from 50-minute or 50-week settings. If your broker offers both NSE and BSE data, keep the exchange consistent when comparing price, volume and historical levels.
Read price structure before adding indicators
Indicators are calculations derived from price and volume. The chart itself tells you what the market has actually done. Start on a daily chart and then zoom out to weekly context.

Identify the trend from swings
- Rising structure: successive higher highs and higher lows indicate buyers are accepting progressively higher prices.
- Falling structure: lower highs and lower lows show that rallies are being sold before the previous peak is reclaimed.
- Range: overlapping highs and lows between recognizable boundaries indicate balance rather than a clear directional trend.
Mark the most recent meaningful swing high and swing low, not every minor candle fluctuation. A trend is more useful when the swings are visible on the timeframe you intend to trade or invest from. A daily uptrend can coexist with a weekly correction, so state both rather than forcing one label.
Inspect gaps and unusually large candles
A gap between one session’s close and the next session’s open can reveal a reaction to results, guidance, a corporate action or broad market news. Large candles deserve an event check: determine whether volume expanded and whether the close held after the initial move. An isolated spike that immediately reverses has a different implication from a wide candle followed by several closes in the same direction.
Use volume as participation evidence
Price rising on expanding volume generally shows more participation than the same rise on declining volume. The comparison should be with recent average volume, not with one unusually quiet session. A breakout that closes beyond resistance with strong volume and remains above that level on a later retest is more convincing than an intraday move that finishes back inside the range. Volume confirms participation; it does not identify direction by itself.
Map support and resistance as zones
Support is a price area where buying has previously slowed or halted declines. Resistance is an area where selling has previously interrupted advances. Treat both as zones because orders are distributed over a range and prices rarely reverse at one exact rupee.
How to draw useful zones
- Mark at least two or three visible reactions on the daily or weekly chart.
- Give more weight to levels that produced a sharp, high-volume reversal or were tested several times.
- Include the bodies and wicks of the reaction candles rather than drawing an artificially narrow line.
- Note whether a former resistance area could become support after a sustained close above it, or whether former support could become resistance after a breakdown.
Pivot-point tools may display reference values such as S1 (first support) and R1 (first resistance). These are calculated levels, not guarantees. A break is more credible when the candle closes beyond the zone, volume is meaningfully higher, and a later retest holds. A wick through a level followed by a close back inside the range is a failed break until new evidence appears.

Understand moving averages and what they can—and cannot—say
A moving average smooths price so the underlying direction is easier to see. A simple moving average (SMA) gives every observation in the chosen period equal weight. An exponential moving average (EMA) gives greater weight to recent prices, so it turns faster but can produce more noise.

Compare 20-, 50-, 100- and 200-day context instead of treating one crossover as a verdict. The 20-day average is responsive to recent swings; 50-day and 100-day averages describe intermediate structure; the 200-day average is a broad long-term reference. The slope matters: an upward-sloping 50-day average conveys a different condition from a flat one even when price is above both.

It describes mixed time horizons, not a complete buy-or-sell signal; check the slopes, intervening swings and current chart before drawing a trend conclusion.
Read RSI without treating “overbought” as a sell command
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is a 0–100 momentum oscillator. It compares the size of recent gains with recent losses over a selected period. The commonly used RSI(14) uses 14 periods. Groww’s guide describes RSI as a momentum oscillator that helps identify potential trend reversals or entry and exit points.

The captured Tata Elxsi reading was RSI(14) 70.17. That is just above the conventional 70 threshold: momentum was strong, while the risk of a pullback or consolidation was elevated. It was not proof of an imminent decline. Compare the RSI with the price trend and marked levels. In a powerful uptrend, RSI may repeatedly find support near 40–50 and return above 70; in a weak trend, rallies may fail near 60.

Use divergence as a review prompt
Positive divergence occurs when price makes a lower low while RSI makes a higher low; negative divergence occurs when price makes a higher high while RSI makes a lower high. Divergence can warn that momentum is changing, but it can persist through several sessions. Confirm it with a broken swing, a close through support or resistance, and volume rather than trading the divergence alone.
Interpret MACD as a momentum-change tool
Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) compares a faster moving average with a slower one. A standard setting is MACD(12,26,9): the MACD line is based on 12- and 26-period EMAs, and the signal line is a 9-period EMA of the MACD line. The histogram displays the distance between those two lines.
Read the three MACD relationships
- Line versus signal: a MACD line crossing above its signal line indicates improving short-term momentum; crossing below indicates weakening momentum.
- Position versus zero: a bullish crossover above zero has a different context from one far below zero. Above zero means the faster average is already above the slower average.
- Histogram direction: expanding bars show a widening gap between the lines; shrinking bars show that momentum is losing force, even if the lines have not crossed.
Groww displayed Tata Elxsi’s MACD(12,26,9) at 76.97 with a bullish verdict in the snapshot captured on 16 October 2026. Treat that as a platform reading for that date, not a forecast. Check whether the crossover occurred above or below zero, whether the histogram is expanding, and whether price is approaching a resistance zone. A bullish MACD directly beneath major resistance can still fail; a bearish crossover above a rising long-term trend may be a pullback rather than a structural reversal.
Add volatility and market-participation context
Beta
Beta compares a security’s historical movement with a chosen market benchmark. Groww describes beta near 1 as movement roughly in line with the market. Its captured Tata Elxsi value was 0.99, which was approximately market-like for that calculation period. Beta is backward-looking and benchmark-dependent; it does not predict the next move or measure the size of company-specific event risk.
ATR
Average True Range (ATR) measures the typical size of price movement, including gaps. A rising ATR means the stock is moving through wider daily ranges; a falling ATR means ranges are contracting. ATR can help set a stop distance or position size, but it has no directional signal. Use the same timeframe as the trade plan and avoid placing a stop so close that normal ATR movement triggers it.

Delivery percentage
Delivery percentage can add context about how much traded quantity was delivered rather than squared off intraday. It is not a guarantee of long-term accumulation or a substitute for volume, price structure or company disclosures. Compare it with the stock’s own recent history and be cautious about drawing conclusions from one session.
Use a repeatable chart-reading workflow
- Verify the instrument: select NSE:TATAELXSI, confirm scrip code 500408 or ISIN INE670A01012 when available, and confirm INR.
- Stamp the data: record the access date, last displayed price and whether the chart is daily, weekly or intraday. Do not describe an old platform snapshot as live.
- Describe structure: classify the swings as rising, falling or overlapping; mark gaps, consolidation and unusually large candles.
- Mark zones: draw support and resistance from repeated reactions and note nearby pivot, S1 and R1 references if your chart provides them.
- Check participation: compare breakout or reversal volume with the recent average and inspect whether the close held.
- Add averages: compare 20-, 50-, 100- and 200-day SMA or EMA settings, their slopes and price location relative to each.
- Read RSI: note the regime, any divergence and whether the prevailing trend explains persistent extreme readings.
- Read MACD: record line/signal relationship, histogram direction and zero-line position.
- Assess volatility: use ATR and beta to describe movement and market sensitivity, not direction.
- Cross-check events: review results, guidance, corporate actions and filings before acting on a technical setup.
- Write a conditional conclusion: specify what would confirm the setup, what would invalidate it and which timeframe applies.
Compare daily and weekly setups instead of mixing signals

A setup is stronger when independent observations agree: for example, weekly higher highs, a daily close above resistance, rising volume, price above a rising 50-day average, RSI holding a bullish range and a MACD crossover above zero. If the weekly chart is falling while the daily chart flashes a bullish crossover, describe the daily move as a counter-trend rally until the larger structure changes.

Technical readings describe market behavior; they do not explain why the business may be repriced. Review Tata Elxsi’s investor materials and dated NSE filings for revenue, margins, guidance, order commentary, results dates and corporate actions. The company’s investor page reports operating revenue of Rs. 3,729 crores for FY2025 and full-year PBT of 26.3%. Those are reported financial figures for that fiscal year, not a prediction of the next quarter.
When reading a breakout near an earnings announcement, check the event date and whether the price gap followed results. A strong chart can reverse if guidance disappoints; a weak chart can stabilize when results remove uncertainty. Chairman N. Ganapathy Subramaniam has said: “Customer experience continues to be a key focus for our customers across industries, and the increased permeation of software, electronics, and digital technologies enables more significant opportunities for innovation and differentiation in the delivery and personalization of the end-to-end customer experience.” Treat this as management’s stated strategic view and compare it with subsequent reported performance, not as technical evidence.

How to interpret the captured Tata Elxsi snapshot
The 16 October 2026 snapshot contained several signals that must be separated by horizon:

- The displayed price was ₹3,700.
- RSI(14) was 70.17, indicating strong momentum and an elevated pullback risk under the usual threshold convention.
- MACD(12,26,9) was 76.97 and labelled bullish by Groww, indicating positive momentum under that platform’s calculation.
- The 50-day SMA was ₹3,470.90, placing the displayed price above that reference.
- The 200-day SMA was ₹4,200.29, placing the displayed price below that longer reference.
- Beta was 0.99, approximately in line with the market under Groww’s description.
Together, these values suggest recent momentum was firm while the relationship with the longer-term average was less constructive. They do not establish a trade direction because the chart’s swings, slopes, volume, support/resistance and event calendar were not captured by the numbers alone. Refresh every value on the exchange or chart platform before making a current assessment.
Common mistakes and how to correct them
Calling an RSI above 70 a guaranteed reversal
Correction: label it strong or potentially overbought momentum, then inspect trend persistence, divergence and support. Wait for price confirmation if a reversal thesis requires one.
Using one moving-average crossover in isolation
Correction: compare multiple horizons, slopes and price location. A crossover in a flat range is less informative than one aligned with higher highs, higher lows and expanding volume.

Correction: require a close beyond the zone and, where appropriate, a retest that holds. Record the timeframe used for the breakout decision.
Mixing stale and current values
Correction: put the access date next to every quoted reading. The ₹3,700 price and indicator values above were captured on 16 October 2026 and should not be reused as live data.
Ignoring corporate events
Correction: check results, filings, guidance and corporate actions around every unusually large candle or gap.
Treating a platform verdict as an independent signal
Correction: inspect the underlying lines, periods and price levels. “Bullish” or “overbought” is a label generated from chosen inputs, not a guarantee of outcome.
A concise checklist before acting on a chart
- Is the symbol NSE:TATAELXSI, and do the scrip code or ISIN match?
- Have you written down the exchange, currency, access date and timeframe?
- What are the latest meaningful swing high, swing low, support zone and resistance zone?
- Did the move close beyond a level, and did volume or a retest confirm it?
- Are the 20-, 50-, 100- and 200-day averages rising, falling or flat?
- Is RSI extreme because of a persistent trend, and is there any divergence?
- Where are the MACD lines relative to each other and to zero?
- What do ATR and beta say about movement size and market sensitivity?
- Are results, guidance, filings or corporate actions nearby?
- What exact price action would confirm your interpretation, and what would invalidate it?
This process keeps the chart in the right order: establish what price and volume are doing, use indicators to test that observation, and then check whether company information could change the interpretation.
