You can read a public Telegram channel in a browser without a Telegram account. Use the Telegram app if you want to find and follow channels there; expect to pay only if a creator has gated a particular channel or post. Telegram Premium is optional.
Three ways to read a Telegram channel
| Route | Account or app needed? | Cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser preview | No Telegram account is required to preview a public channel. | No basic Telegram subscription fee is identified for viewing public posts. | Opening public posts from a shared link. |
| Telegram app | Use the app and an account to find, join, and follow channels in Telegram. | Core features are free; Premium is optional. | Finding channels and following them in the app. |
| Creator-gated access | Access depends on the creator’s invite or paid-access settings. | A creator may charge Stars for an exclusive channel or an individual post. | Content the creator has made paid or restricted. |
Read a public channel in your browser
Open the public channel link in a web browser and select the preview option if prompted. Telegram says public channel content can be viewed on the web without logging in or having a Telegram account. Its example uses a t.me/s/ preview link. Telegram’s 2019 announcement describes this account-free web access.
This is the simplest route if you only want to read public posts. Telegram’s product tour also says public channel content can be seen on the web without an account and is indexed by search engines: Telegram Channels.

Public channels have usernames and can be found through Telegram search. Open a channel and join it to follow its posts in the app. Telegram says new subscribers can see the channel’s entire message history. For the official explanation of public and private channel access, see the Telegram Channels FAQ.

When reading a channel or post can cost money
A public channel is not inherently paid. A creator can, however, restrict particular content: Telegram supports monthly paid invite links for exclusive channels and paid individual posts using Stars. Whether you need to pay depends on the specific channel or post and its creator’s settings. Telegram announced these creator payment options in its August 14, 2024 update; its Privacy Policy also describes public chats and paid posts.

Telegram Premium is optional
Telegram describes Premium as an optional subscription that adds features and higher limits, while its core expected features remain free. The official Premium announcement dates to 2022 and is not a current, region-specific price list. Do not treat its launch pricing as a universal current price; the sources do not establish one reliable amount for all locations and purchase platforms.
